Underneath every hot search, people are already playing with memes.
âCritique: Karmaâs following you, isnât it? Getting poked with needles in the dead of night and then sticking to a cheap shared electric scooter seat, am I some kind of cheap thing?â
âJi Chen: Timmyâs played with this too!â
âWhat can I say? Are playing memes fun? Can you respect my brother a bit? He worked so hard to get to where he is now!â
âThe nickname âChicken Chenâ has finally taken hold; stop slandering my brother.â
âWhereâs the evidence? Bring out the evidence! Buddy, stop pretending, if you want to see firsthand footage just say it.â
The memes were played more and more widely, their influence growing, and it almost rose to the level of nationwide rubbernecking. The people in Ji Chenâs main fan group suddenly realized⦠they were screwed.
When the pressure reached a breaking point, finally someone couldnât withstand the pressure.
The money collected by the fan groupâs anti-defamation squad disappeared without a trace; a big fan took the money and ran. Reality was more absurd than a movie, taking off with five million gone.
The fans who realized too late wanted to call the police, but found themselves in a total mess.
The anti-defamation squad had no heart to counter the defamation posts; the heat couldnât be suppressed any longer. People were already leaving the main fan group, while the smaller fan groups were still stubbornly resisting, believing in their brother.
Some proposed to call the police, but there werenât many respondents, leaving the group chat an image of desolation.
At Starlight Entertainment, the manager Li Mingweiâs face twisted ferociously, veins bulging on his forehead. He threw his phone onto the desk, cursing furiously.
âJi Chen, do you fucking have a sex addiction?â
âWeâve just signed a multi-million endorsement deal with Green Fruit Garden, and then you turn around and create such a mess. I ask you, what the hell were you thinking?â
âDo you know how much the company is going to lose? Over twenty cities, you motherfâ¦. even minors you dare!â
For a moment, Li Mingwei didnât even know what else to curse. He was about to go insane, even though he was about to sever ties with these dogpaparazzi kinds.
There was just that last stretch of time, and he couldâve resigned from his position as a manager. Damn it, not leaving himself any way out!
It all blew up, everything blew up!
The company had used all the methods at their disposal, but the heat just couldnât be suppressed. Ji Chen had done too many stupid things; if it was just for publicity, it wouldâve at most been a moral issue.
But this was now a legal problem, and the heat was still so intense, how to solve it?
It was impossible to resolve, they could only give up and abandon themselves.
Ji Chen sat on the sofa, scrolling through his phone with gritted teeth, his complexion almost turning as black as coal. Probably angered by being scolded, he looked up at Li Mingwei.
With a crash, the phone was smashed to pieces by Ji Chen.
The loud noise startled the band members, and Li Mingwei looked at Ji Chen with uncertainty. Timmy even leapt up, exclaiming a WTF from his mouth.
âHow the fuck would I know she was underage?â Ji Chen yelled, his neck bulging, âShould I have checked their ID cards? Do you ask A Shui if he checks?â
The other three members of the band, already with worried expressions, were sitting to the side. They knew their days would not be easy after Ji Chenâs trouble, and A Shui, suddenly named, let out a sound.
Just sitting there minding their own business, and out of nowhere the pot falls from the sky.
Seeing the gaze of manager Li Mingwei and others sweep over, A Shui cursed internally while quickly standing up to explain.
âBro Li, you know me, Iâm the passive type,â he said.
Seeing A Shui taking a stand, the other two band members also hurriedly followed suit with their explanations.
Little Lu: âBro Li, you know me. Iâm always cautious and careful, I would never leave any evidence. And I only ever pick a couple of timid fans to mess with.â
Timmy: âBro Li, you know me, if I make a move, thereâd be no way thereâd be any young girl involved. If someoneâs going to be in bed, it should be their mom.â
After Timmy finished his sentence, the other two couldnât help but laugh.
All three had tarnished histories, but compared to the lead of the Xi Liang band, Ji Chen, A Shui, Little Lu, Timmy, they were as pure as children.
Li Mingwei sighed, âThe legal notice has been sent out, letâs wait for the result tomorrow.â
As soon as the words fell, the mobile phone on the table rang.
âHello? This is Li Mingwei, whatâs the matter?â His temper was flaring, and his tone was somewhat aggressive, but in the next second, he was completely stunned.
âSay that again? Whoâs at the company building?â
The person on the other end of the line hesitated for a few seconds before reiterating.
âItâs a few police officers, they said they are looking for Ji Chen to understand the situation, asking him to cooperate with the investigation.â
With a clang, the phone fell to the floor. The whole room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop, with Ji Chen and the other two staring at the phone on the ground, not daring to make a sound.
Ji Chenâs face turned pale, and his lips went white when he heard the word âpoliceâ. Someone had really filed a report⦠it wasnât just an empty threat.
The person on the phone, getting no response, called out a few times.
âBrother Li, Brother Li? Are you listening? Right nowâ¦.â
The voice suddenly became noisy, as if someone else had taken the phone. Then a magnetic voice of a middle-aged man came through, full of presence.
âAh, that, we are from the XX Public Security Bureau, here to understand the situation.â
Ji Chen didnât catch what the old officer said after that. He only heard the words âPublic Security Bureau.â Did understanding the situation require three or four big men to come together?
Gentle words often come with handcuffs.
The call ended, and the room was still silent.
Ji Chen looked up at Li Mingwei and asked in a hoarse voice,
âBrother Li, the company will bail me out, right?â
Li Mingwei did not answer. It was the third time Ji Chen had called him âBrother Liâ. The first was when they first met, the second when he was dragged away by traffic police.
This was the third time, but this time he couldnât respond.
âYou will protect me! Right?â Ji Chenâs voice was a bit frantic as he stood up and swallowed, âYouâll bail me out, you will bail me out, right?â
As time ticked by, Li Mingwei stood still, still without any response.
âYou motherfucker, Li Mingwei!â Ji Chen exploded, pointing at Li Mingwei, âIf I go in, you all wonât have it easy either! I still have fans, youâ¦â
Li Mingwei looked up at him, his gaze lingering.
âWeâll see, take care of yourself.â
Thud, thud, thud, there was a knock on the door, and several imposing policemen walked in. After showing a series of summoning papers and credentials, they took Ji Chen away.
On the first floor of the company, coincidentally during the after-work rush hour, a crowd of curious onlookers gawked. Phones quietly raised, no telling how many videos were recorded.@@novelbin@@
Ji Chen was not handcuffed, he was simply flanked by three large men and led away.
âMake way, donât obstruct us from performing official duties!â
The moment Ji Chen got into the police car, the young policeman in the passenger seat unbuttoned the top button of his shirt. He pulled out his phone to check the time, right at six oâclock.
Out of professional habit, he turned to take a look at Ji Chen in the back seat to confirm all was correct before he relaxed.
A female employee who had just finished work witnessed everything, and after complaining to her friends, suddenly remembered something and opened the recommended page for Lin Chuanâs new song on the homepage.
[Would you like to purchase âBig Fishâ?]
Two seconds later, the purchase was successful. Before she had a chance to listen, the car arrived, and she hastily glanced at the beginning of the lyrics.
Performed by: Lin Chuan, Lyrics and Composition: Xu Qingyan.
