Hearing this, Pei Muchan didnât believe it at all. If it had been before, she might have thought it sounded reasonable, but the more she got to know him, the more she realized that for this man, writerâs block simply didnât exist.
Other people might take a year to finish a hit song, but he could do it in one night. However, if you asked him why, the answer would always be âa flukeâ or âby coincidence.â
So she didnât bother arguing about it, taking it as a flash of inspiration whenever asked.
âHowâs that script coming along?â
âIâve almost finished half of it, and weâre probably starting to gather funds for shooting this month,â answered Xu Qingyan, thinking she was asking about âThe Legend of Martial Arts,â so he said it directly.
âThat quick? Did the higher-ups give the go-ahead?â Pei Muchan was somewhat astonished.
Xu Qingyan looked up and realized she meant the red-themed project by He Guojin, and corrected himself.
âThat theme hasnât been set yet, so Iâve only written a quarter of the beginning. There are some issues with its scale that need to be discussed further. If the theme changes, it wonât be a total waste of effort.â
Knock knock knock, the sound of knocking interrupted their conversation.
After inquiring, the waiter started bringing dishes to the table one after another.
It had been half a month since the two had seen each other, and sitting across the table from one another, their conversation was brimming with life. This feeling was a bit marvelousâmutual trust, mutual benefit.
It was as if time and distance couldnât dilute their understanding, with even their breathing becoming synchronized.
Their professions complemented each other, and the fields they were involved in were mutually beneficial. Together, both profited, both striving for higher ground, and Xu Qingyan had a sense of direction that she lacked.
Pei Muchan didnât even need to wander, just watching Xu Qingyan move forward was enough. There was a competitive feeling, having a comrade by your sideâyou certainly didnât want to be left behind.
âLetâs eat first,â suggested Pei Muchan.
âRight.â
After the meal, the two drove to the riverside and took a walk in the park. They walked, stopped, and occasionally held hands, chatting side by side.
Under the moonlight, the lake was turbid, and Pei Muchan became slightly lost in thought.
At first, she hadnât thought much about it, figuring she wouldnât get swept away. It seemed more important to understand the relationship between the two before making any decisions.
She didnât have many concerns before, but after that night, everything became uncontrollable. Like a wild horse running amok, dragging her along passively.
Whatâs worse, Pei Muchan could feel that her mind wasnât as clear as before. Often, she was a bit caught up in it all.
After the walk, Xu Qingyan took Pei Muchan back home.
On the way, she hesitated, pondering whether they would end up⦠like last time, pressing against each other in a kiss. That time was an accident.
What about this time? What should she want?
If she rejected, wouldnât it seem too rude? But if she went through with it, she hadnât made up her mind. Without a clear relationship, kissing each other all the time didnât seem right.
Should they kiss this time and then lay it all out, trying to be together?
But there was work to do tomorrow, seeing each other all the time. Just thinking about how they had just been career partners, and suddenly they could turn into an openly acknowledged couple.
Although it had its pros and cons, she definitely wasnât ready.
You couldnât expect your first love to be like Zhu Bajie eating the ginseng fruit, not tasting anything. Skipping the dating process and going straight to an old married coupleâs routine.
The black Audi entered the underground garage, Xu Qingyan got out and took her to the elevator, but he seemed to have no intention of going up.
âYou head up and rest.â
Pei Muchan was taken aback, his actions were outside of her plans.
âYouâre not coming up?â
From what she knew of Xu Qingyan, this man was extremely good at taking an inch and asking for a mile. She had felt this from the time he had started appearing on the reality show.
Year below does not call sisterâ¦@@novelbin@@
âDo you want me to come up?â Xu Qingyan asked, puzzled.
In front of the elevator, Pei Muchan suddenly found herself at a loss for words.
âIâ¦â
âThen thatâs that, Iâm heading back.â Xu Qingyan waved his hand and turned as if to leave, âYou should get some rest too, lateâ¦â
Before he could finish speaking, his hand was abruptly caught.
âWhatâs wrong?â
Pei Muchan didnât know what to say next, just feeling that things shouldnât just pass by like this. In a desperate moment, her mind heated up, and she reached out, her face turning slightly red as she said,
âI didnât mean that.â
âYeah, I know.â
âNo, you donât understand.â Pei Muchan was struggling to clarify, she shouldnât have hesitated with her response earlier, and decided to just go for it.
With her heart pounding, she leaned in close, stood on her tiptoes, and pressed her lips to Xu Qingyanâs.
In that instant, even with ample mental preparation, Pei Muchanâs pupils still dilated. The delicate sensation of the kiss left her mind utterly blank.
Twenty seconds later, she came back to her senses, still a bit breathless after they separated.
Xu Qingyan looked at her with a smile, his eyes shining.
âNow I understand.â
âNo,â she protested, her face flushing and finding herself utterly unable to articulate, she blurted out, âIâm going upstairs now,â and fled into the elevator, turning her face away.
It wasnât until the elevator doors closed that Xu Qingyanâs lips began to curve slightly.
He had never intended to be coy, he was genuinely a bit tired. That day he had been running around the municipal leaders and the secretary-general all morning and had caught a plane in the afternoon.
He had even worked on the script on the plane.
Spending the evening driving around and chatting with Pei Muchan, going to dinner, then walking in the nearby parkâa grueling schedule even if he was made of iron. By then, he was about ready to call it a day.
He had thought to let it go and flirt with the mature lady another day. Who wouldâve imagined that the lady would recklessly throw herself at him like a silly fish, making it practically criminal not to kiss her?
A few days passed.
After Pei Muchan took the initiative to kiss him in the parking lot, Xu Qingyan didnât deliberately flirt with her anymore. He was afraid to startle her, knowing that pursuing her too hard might break the connection altogether.
