Silence, a long silence, it was so long that she thought that he would not send her a message. Suddenly a message was received.
William: Do you hate me?
Hate?
Sherry asked herself. It was a negotiated contract so why should she hate him? She didnât know if she should hate him or hate herself! But in these five years, this kind of separation from her child caused her to be extremely hurt. She didnât hate him for taking away her child but she hated him for doing it again five years later. She took a deep breath and replied.
Sherry: Hate!
After a long while, a message was received.
William: Go to sleep!
She looked at the phone in a blank and no messages came after that. She didnât know what he meant. Was he angry because of her reply that she hated him and didnât allow her to see her child anymore?
Sherry started to ponder deeply. He said for her to be his lover for life. This was a long, long time until death. Should she accept? He said that he can let his child spend time with her but this was the only request!
In the dim bar, William sat in a corner holding onto his phone. The other hand was holding onto a cigarette. He was entirely lethargic and dispirited but maintained his overbearing attitude.
âWill, you are very different recently!â Liam raised his glass, âYou seem so distracted!â
âDonât you have anything to do?â William said softly, coldly but emotionlessly.
âHeh! So you guys are here!â Suddenly a quiet and exquisite voice interjected.
The two of them looked up at the same time and Sarah Brooks was smiling radiantly towards them. She wore a dense pattern T-shirt and looked like a little girl. She wore grey colored jeans and a pair of canvas shoes. When she appeared at that dimly lit bar, she ruined her clean image of a girl next door.
âWhen did you come back?â Liam was puzzled and totally didnât expected it, âdidnât you tell dad and mom that youâre not coming back?â
âI just came back and didnât see you, so I came here to try my luck!â Sarah said and sat down.
âYou brother and sister have a good chat, Iâm leaving!â Williamâs raspy voice revealed a trace of emotion, stood up and winked at Sarah.
âWilliam, youâre leaving now?â
âWasnât this what you wanted?â William said and left.
Liam frowned, âWhat do you want?â
âThanks! William.â
âHey! What do you mean?â Liam was frustrated, âDonât come here next time. Itâs not a good place. Come, letâs go back!â
âBut donât you come regularly?â Sarah couldnât tolerate his nagging, âYou can come but I canât?â
âI donât allow you to come!â Liam yelled, âGo home!â
âTake me home!â Sarah immediately grabbed Liamâs arm, âBro, actually I donât like this environment at all!â
âGo back on your own, I have something else on!â
âAre you going to look for women?â
Liam was stunned and then laughed weirdly, âYes!â
âBrother!â Sarah frowned, âIâll tell dad and mom!â
Friday at midday.
Sherry was attending to the customers when William and Liam suddenly appeared at the Wait restaurant.
âHi! Sherry, how are you doing?â Liam had not seen Sherry for a long time.
âHi, Liam and Mr. Rowland. How are you!â Sherry greeted politely.
William gently nodded but didnât speak. His gaze didnât stop on Sherryâs face. He wore a dark silver shirt with a pair of black trousers. He was elegant and handsome. His deep dark eyes didnât wander and stared directly at the lift. That stare of indifference penetrated the souls and terrified all around.
William walked directly to the lift.
âWill, you go up first!â Liam smiled at Sherry and was rather caring towards her, âSherry, you look like youâve not been sleeping well. Are you very stressed recently or had Leon been mistreating you?â
The man in the lift tensed up and became stiff.
Sherry shook her head, âNo, Iâm fine! Liam, go ahead for your lunch!â
âSherry, Iâll pick you up after work and treat you to dinner, okay?â Liam was thinking that he had not seen Sherry for a while and missed her. She had once saved his life.
Sherry smiled and rejected, âNo need, Liam, I need to pick Dan up today.â
âLetâs go together. I have not seen him for a long time!â Liam continued.
Sherry felt that it wasnât appropriate to refuse any further and nodded, âOkay then!â
âOkay, Iâll pick you up after work and weâll pick Dan up together. Wait for my call!â Liam patted Sherryâs back affectionately and turned to go upstairs only to find William in a daze at a corner.
âWill? What happened? Do you want to join us?â Liam raised his eyebrow and thought that Will wanted to join them.
When she heard Liam, her heart skipped a beat, and subconsciously looked towards William but he didnât look back at her.
âIâm not free!â William said and walked off.
When Sherry couldnât see any more, she heaved a sigh of relief. However, she strangely felt lost but didnât think much of it. When William and Liam ate and left, Liam reminded her, âDonât forget to wait for my call!â
âOkay!â She nodded.
William maintained his silence and didnât even look at her. Perhaps he will not harass her anymore, Sherry thought. If that was the case, then she will finally be free.
When it was about time to leave, Sherry suddenly received a message. It was from Mr. Fox, âCome to number 15 villa after work.â
She was stunned and was anxious because she had agreed to Liamâs invitation. Also, it was the weekend and Dan had gone home. She canât leave Dan alone for the night.
Sherry: Can I go next week?
The other side did not reply. Sherry thought that he had agreed and didnât say any further.
But as she was about to get off work, Leon said to Sherry, âSherry, Will ordered a take out. Help me to deliver it. Anyway, itâs along the way of the company transport. Iâll not send someone for this since weâre rather busy today.â
Sherry was stunned but when she thought that Leon allowed her to leave early to pick up her child on Fridays and it was a special privilege for her so she couldnât refuse his instructions, âOkay! Iâll deliver it!â
Later when Sherry received Liamâs call she said, âLiam, Iâm going to deliver a take out for Mr. Rowland. You donât have to pick me up. Iâm already on my way!â
âYouâre coming to the company?â
âYes!â
âOkay! Then wait a while for me. Give me a call once youâve delivered it. I have to settle an urgent matter.â Liam sounded anxious.
âOkay!â
Sherry carried the container and entered the Rowland Group building complex. She only left for several days and felt rather detached from this place.
When the receptionist saw Sherry, she was surprised, âSherry, why are you back?â
Sherry smiled as she walked to the lift, âFood delivery!â
âYou deliver food now?â The receptionist asked in disbelief, âIâm sure with your abilities you donât have to resort to delivery!â
âIâm going up first!â The lift came and she politely said to the receptionist and entered the lift.
Alice was very excited to see Sherry, âSherry, why are you back?â Alice ran over to her.
âAlice, this is Mr. Rowlandâs take out. Can you take it in for him?â She knew that anything that goes to William must go through Alice who was his secretary.
âOkay!â Alice paused, âPut it down, Iâll deliver it to Mr. Rowland. Wait for me!â
Alice pressed the intercom and announced, âMr. Rowland, your take out is here!â
âHave the delivery person send it in.â He said softly causing Sherry and Alice to be stunned.
Alice immediately said, âSherry, take it in by yourself.â
Sherryâs face was tensed and said, âI wonât go in, you just tell him that Iâve left.â
âBut...â Before Alice could say anything, Williamâs office door suddenly opened and he stood at the door and looked at the two ladies, âMs. Murray, I didnât expect it to be you! Can you please come in for a moment?â
Sherry braced herself, nodded, and entered Williamâs office, âMr. Rowland, whatâs the matter?â
William sat on the executive chair and calmly lit a cigarette, âHow have you been recently?â
Sherry took a deep breath and replied, âIâm fine!â
âIt must be tough working at the Wait Restaurant!â
âItâs okay!â She didnât know what William meant. He was so busy, how would he know what happened at the restaurant? It was unbelievable and she didnât know what he was thinking. This man was like a deep and bottomless chasm. She just felt that he was dark and frightening. She wanted to leave but she was captivated by his handsome looks.
âHave a seat!â He said.
âMr. Rowland, I need to go. This is your take out!â She placed the take out container on the table and became nervous.
âCome back to work!â He tossed the cigarette and said calmly.
Sherry looked at him, âIâm very happy with my current job!â
âDo you really like to finish work at 9 pm every day?â He raised his eyebrows.
âIt enriches me!â Sherry replied.
It was he who dismissed her. Now it was impossible for him to have her back. Additionally, she no longer wanted to have any dealings with this man.
After putting down the container, she smiled slightly and didnât wait for William to speak and she turned to leave. William opened his mouth and wanted to say something but did not.
Once she was out of Williamâs office, Sherry took a deep breath and smiled at Alice. At this moment, Liam walked over and asked, âSherry, are you done?â
âYes!â Sherry nodded.

It was Monday again.
After nine oâclock at night, the customers had left the restaurant and Sherry was about to leave. She suddenly received a message. There were three simple words but it was very demanding.
Mr. Fox: Come over tonight!
She looked at her watch. It was already half-past nine. She called the number to have the driver pick her up. She was very quiet along the way and the driver was as well. It was obvious that he didnât probe into other peopleâs matters.
The house was brightly lit when she arrived. After a deep breath, she pushed open the door to enter. At the white sofa, William was putting on the mask and smoking leisurely. There were a lot of cigarette butts on the coffee table.
His slim fingers were holding onto the cigarette when he heard someone entering. He turned with his fox face mask. He exuded a special magnetism.
Sherry was afraid that something would happen and stood in place and didnât move.
He looked up and said softly, âHave you eaten?â He knew that she just finished work and had not eaten and neither had he.
Sherry shook her head.
âGo and cook, I havenât eaten either!â He ordered.
Sherry was stunned and swallowed her saliva.
