Sterling's POV
On the second day, the police questioned me about the whole situation.All about the witnesses and what went down.It was all a headache to me.My parents were by my side the whole time, guiding me.
April was interviewed separately but our stories were straightened up, same and as simple as it is.In summary,Sean hit me and I almost died.
One week in,
"Can I have normal meals now? I'm craving for some mac and cheese." I whined and Mom chuckled.
"No Sterling.You'll only be having soup and porridge from the time being." I just nodded.
"Hey Mom,I think Dad's calling you from outside." Blair walks in, and Mom excused herself.
"Psst...I bought you oatmeal with honey." Blair winks and placed the sealed bowl on one of my drawers.
"Did April sent you to send it to me?" I suspected and she looks around, avoiding the question.
"Thank you." I wiggled my thumb and she smiled, staying by my side.
Two weeks later,
A fine gentleman walks into my room but I instantly knew who it was.The driver itself.
"We're not properly introduced but I'm Sean." He waved instead of going for a handshake.That's smart for I would have strangled with my thumb.That's not...possible as well.
"I know."
"Sterling.That's your name, right?"
"Yes,Sean.To what do I owe this displeasure?" I raised my brows and he cleared his throat.
"I haven't got a chance to explain my side of story and apologise.With what you're going through,I thought of giving you time and space."
"That's very considerate but go on because I probably need a reason to why I'm not killing you right here and now."
"Before this unfortunate crash, I was texting my girlfriend."
"While driving? They should reconsider and remove your license."
"No before driving.We were arguing and she dumped through text.What's even worse was that she was cheating behind my back.With my best friend.I was going to marry her you know?"
"So instead of letting loose through drinking or nicotine, you went for a drive.A really really speedy drive through the neighbourhood."
"Yes and that's not exactly a reason to defend myself and I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to put me behind bars."
"You were the cause of all this.Can't you see what you did? I can't move my legs, neck.Even with recovery, I'll be terrorised by trauma.That you inflicted."
"I know you don't want my money but I do insist on paying for all of it.I just- I can't be screwed up because of the girl who fucked me up.Sterling,I'm begging you." He approached me at a safe distance and I looked into his eyes.
Truth.His eyes didn't waver so was his expression.It was either the truth or he's a really really good actor.I doubt it's the latter with that suit on him.
"I would do anything to make it up to you.In any way.Just think about it and do give me a call." He hands out his business card and holy crap.He's the son of a very wealthy man in a lucrative business
I ought to be thinking of what to do with Sean and this whole situation.Not until I hear news from Rachel herself.
And a month later,I was discharged.Pretty fast, huh?
The doctor reprimanded that I needed constant care and I was going to have to adjust to living like this for the next couple of months for full recovery.
Clearly something I wasn't looking forward to.
I'd still have to for regular checkups and go through occupational therapy.I'm still unable to move my legs and neck but my hands are slowing getting there.Just wiggling them around.
In terms of how I was feeling,
Was I mad?
Yes
Was I traumatised?
Yes, probably for life.Aside from bounty hunting,I've never felt so close to death on that day.
I was terrified for what would happen to Blair and April.Mom and Dad as well.
Should I get a therapist?
Yes but that's not exactly the first thing on my mind.
I wanted to kill Sean but he already told me his side of the story.And it checks out after Rachel's deep investigation.
Though it doesn't mean he's fully forgiven.
Mom and dad have lawyers ready in their side pocket for when I decide to press charges but I wasn't feeling the need to go court over and over again.
And on the plus side, a wealthy son owes me and we have too much discuss.
As for April, she kept her word.She visited everyday and even packed food from home.She did her assignments while visiting and we ended up falling asleep sometimes.
On some days,I would have to send her on an errand that's about an hour or so to allow Bowser and Yolanda to come visit.
We're still keeping this bounty hunting on the down low and I don't want April finding out.
Bowser was pretty concerned cause I'm the smart blonde one.I laughed it off and we exchanged small talks.
"You just sit tight,blondie.Time heals.For the mean time,I'll be taking Blair along." Bowser said and Blair was already beaming. "Oh fun!"
"What...no fair." I groaned while Blair stick out her tongue,teasing me.
"Well...at least he called me the smart one." I teased back and Blair's expression changed which was EVERYTHING.
Present
Back at home,April and I planned on spending the day together.
"You know I'm feeling much better, love." I let out as April helped me out.
"That doesn't stop me from taking care of you." April pressed her lips against my hands,and cupping them with hers.
"I should get into accidents more often..." I joked and April gave her the death stare.
"Cmon...if looks could kill,I'd be die by now.Because of you." April stifled a laugh and eventually I did too.
"Well...I actually wanted to run something by you." April lets out.
"Shoot." I said as I stared at her. I mean I know I spent most of my time with her but I still can't believe I'm dating her.I have hot girlfriend.
"Remember the community play? It's next weekend and our parents bought tickets for all of us.They just wanted to let me break the news to you."
"Yeah,I'd loved to go.Especially after all the rehearsals we've been to." I reminded and it's taking back a little of memories.Like the two people who affected our relationship, Carson and Bailey.
"Are you sure? If you don't feel like it, we can just stay home."
"I'll be alright, sweetie."I reassured.
"Good.Stranger Things or Friends?"
"I'm feeling a little comedy so Friends.And can we go to the season where Janice appears?" I asked enthusiastically, and April smiled. "Yes, love."
Before I know it, the community play was today.I had a little checkup with the doctor's in the morning to make sure I'm all good to go.
The doctor's advice was :
"Just stay in the wheelchair and minimise movement, you'll be just fine."
I don't think the audience should be moving around when they're watching a play.
Everyone drove over to the community centre together except for Blair.She's being picked up by Eric plus I needed extra room.
I received words of affirmation from April before heading into the community centre.And it made feel safe and relived.
April's POV
"You're all good, baby.Don't you worry, we're all here for you.You're doing good.I love you." I gave words of affirmations before we start to head in.
"Thank you,April.I love you too." Sterling gives me a kiss on the cheek and I smiled.I was actually practically blushing.
We head in slowly but wow.
Boy was the community centre packed and everyone's there.Even Ellen from high school is here.However we wanted to divert ourselves from all of the 'attention' and 'questions' so we got back seats.
I found our seats and parked Sterling's wheelchair next to mine.Since Sterling didn't need a seat anymore,I saved one for Blair.
Just when we thought we'd get a moment of piece.
"April! You're here." Hannah B waved, as she comes forth with Ezekiel.
"Of course, why wouldn't I be here?" I replied coldly and Sterling looks at me with the 'look'.
We have different 'looks' all the time but this one was something Sterling urged for a while now.Also
something that I should have told them from the start.
"Why don't you come sit with us? And is that Sterling Wesley,what happened to you girl?" He takes a closer look and Sterling sheepishly smiled.
"Car crash.Real bad one." Sterling simply replied and Ezekiel managed a smile while Hannah B starts to reach out to Sterling.
"Well....why don't I steal you guys for a second outside before the play?" I said,ushering them out of the hall.Away from Sterling.
"What's going on? Are you sitting with Sterling because you feel bad and it's your obligation to do something nice to ex fellow acquaintance." Hannah B points out and I chuckled.
"Well...that's the thing.You see,Sterling and I were so called rivals back in high school."
I took a deep breath.This is nothing compared to coming out.Just breathe and spit it out.
"Now,we're a couple."
"You and Sterling Wesley?Like together together."
"Yes and I'm proud of it.I just should've told you guys sooner but once I tell you, everyone knows and we were just trying to keep it on the DL."
"How long has this been going on? 3 months?"
Hannah B asked and I bit my lip in guilt.
"It's going to be a year pretty soon."
"You really know how to keep it low-key so when's the wedding?" Ezekiel teased and we ended up exchanging gossips for awhile before we headed back in.
"April!" I turned to look and it was Carson.She
was already in her outfit and it was too bad that I wasn't part of the act anymore.
"You guys go right ahead." Ezekiel and Hannah B nodded and excused themselves.I looked right back at Carson and it was awkward.
What was the whole point of calling me out anyways?
"Well...I wanted to say that I'm sorry for the way we left things.I really am." She cleared her throat.
"That's okay.We're cool." I slightly nudged her and she smiled.
"I was hoping for us to be friends...again?" I chuckled,knowing it can't happen.
"I'm sorry,we can't.I think Sterling and I are in a good place right now and I don't want to mess it up." I explained and her face fell,which only explains that she probably still have 'feelings' for me.
I gave her one last look before entering the hall where Bailey was actually talking to Sterling.
Sterling's POV
"Hey stranger." Someone called out but I couldn't turn to see.Cast around my whole body,you know?
And hey, it was actually Bailey.
"Hi Bailey.What are you doing here?" I looked around to find April but I don't think she's back yet.
"I want to apologise for what happened last time."
"No, it's okay,Bailey.Really." I was still searching for April but she's still not here.Damn it.
"Well another news is that Carson and I are together now."
"That's good.For both of you.Great for each other."
"You're not jealous?" She folded her arms, annoyed.
"Jealous? I'm with good terms with the love of my life right now, why would I be jealous? Plus April doesn't feel that way with Carson."
"Well I just think that-"
"I think you should leave.Right this second." April stepped up and I smirked.That's my girl.Bailey rolled her eyes and left.
"You were gone for awhile,I was looking for you."
"You needed a prince in shining armour?"
"Duh,I can't really punch with all this cast you know?" April laughs and gives me a kiss on the forehead.
Let the play begin.
