i woke up out my sleep and looked at nevaeh laying beside me, "you okay??" i asked her and she nodded.
her face was tear stained and she had a swollen jaw,"open your mouth..." i said but when she tried to tears rolled down her face.
"i'm so sorry..." i mumbled and she didn't say anything.
he started banging on the door making both of us jump,"yall better be sleep!!" i looked at her and we both quickly laid down.
i heard the door open and my heart slipped a beat,"nevaeh...get up." he said and i slightly opened my eyes.
"mmm mmm-" she said pushing him away.
i started moving around,"journey!!" she finally yelled and i jumped up.
"what-"
"stay in here i'm finna take her somewhere." he said making me sit up.
"where?"
"somewhere-"
"and where is somewhere her whole jaw is swollen and it hurts for her to even talk-" i felt something cold hit my face, i held my jaw as nevaeh screamed trying to get out his arms.
i looked in the gun in his hand,"like i said.." he walked up close and held the gun to my temple.
i heard it make a click sound making me shut my eyes and-
i jumped up out of my sleep and tried not to breathe hard, i looked over and adaliya was passed out.
i opened the night drawer stand on my side and grabbed a blunt and a light.
i threw on a shirt and some sweats before sneaking out the room downstairs.
i went through the kitchen to get to the back door, i sighed as the cool wind hit my skin.
i lit the blunt and took a long puff, i closed my eyes as i blew out the smoke.
a tear rolled down my face which i quickly wiped, those years with my dad was pure hell and i'll never know why he did it....
i wake up out a coma then next thing i know i'm at home being abused with nevaeh no way out...
to him disappearing with her and he never came back with her, i cried for weeks she may have annoyed me but that lil girl was helping me keep going.
after her it was still hoping to see adaliya, which finally came true.
i heard the door open making me look back,"i- let me get a puff." acadia said and i let out a laugh.
"lil girl gone." i said.
"pleaseeeee i've never smoked before and i'm scared to ask mama." she said.
"and you think i'm finna let you smoke, and get me in trouble??" i asked and we just stared at each other for a second.
"mmcht...here." i said handing it to her.

"how i know yo mouth ain't dirty." she said and i smacked my lips.
"i'm kidddingggg." she dragged out before doing like i told her.
"show me how to do a smoke trick." she said after taking another puff.
"girl gimme my shit back." i said taking it back.
"mmcht." she smacked her lips and sat on the chair on the patio.
"so, that's your girlfriend???" i asked her and she nodded.
"girlfriendddd- actually yeah she is i've talked to her since 10th we had been a lil on and off at first but now we actually getting shitâ stuff together." she said.
"not you tryna cover up the cussing," i said and handed the blunt back to her.
i shook my head as her face lit up before she took a puff.
adaliya gonna be mad i made her a pothead already-
"journey- mom...can i call you mom??" she asked and i nodded.
"okay...like what was it like being with mama?? when she was a teen?" she asked and i found myself smiling thinking back.
"well...at first i had a crush on her way back when we were kids, your grandfather...we all use to be at his house whenever your she or amare were there." i said and she looked like she was thinking.
"we?? like you mama amare and luxor??" she asked and i paused at luxor name.
"you know about him???" i asked as she passed the blunt to me.
"yeah i know about his bitch assâ wait i'm sorry it's a habit but yeah iniko and i overheard mama and aunt mariah talking about him...i mean iniko already knew but i didn't and...i was shocked honey." she said shaking her head.
"mmm....but then we went on a trip and i asked her out then.." i shrugged.
"did y'all ever argue??" she asked and i nodded.
"yeah we had some disagreements, not gonna lie yo mama was stubborn as fuck so i would give her some space before we talked."
"so that's where i get it from..." she mumbled and i laughed.
"i guess so..." i said.
"ummm...we gotta problem.." she said and i looked up at her.

"are you sleep??" i asked and she laughed.
"no i'm hungry as fuck- shit i mean hungry." she said and i shook my head.
"at this point just cuss i don't care." i said.
"you know where yo mama keep her keys??" i asked and she nodded.

"wait wait waitâ so your mama beat her cause she brought up me??" i asked acadia as we ate some food from waffle house.
"yeah, i mean she had no right saying that mess foreal though like all i did was spill some water and then she wanna rant to mama and was like maybe if you didn't fuck wit that gay girl she wouldn't be like thisâ- and then everything went left mama started beating her ass respectfully." she said before stuffing pancakes into her mouth.
i shook my head, damn i knew adaliya mama ain't like me but she ain't had to bring me up like that dead or not.
then i wasn't even around then the fuck-
"and then shortly after mama and i got ice cream then went to uncle amare house." she said.
"damn...you've been in any fights??"
"one cause this girl kept on tryna talk about my mama and i was like if you gonna talk shit talk it big and proud and don't be hiding behind the screen and then she was like that's why yo other mama dead and i was like how she know-
come to find out my ex bestie had told her sooo i beat both they asses the next day at school...2 v 1 and i still won." she said.
"if i can ask...what happened??" she asked me.
"what you mean??"
"like...why did we think you were dead??" she ask and i was stuck for a minute.
"you don't have to answer-"
"it's good, basically i was depressed back then like i still am but back then i was really depressed at the moment life became too much....and i thought of the easy way out.
it worked until my dad did sum shit and the nurses brought me back which i went into a coma, but after what all he put me through...just a lot of traumatic shit." i said shaking the thoughts away and she nodded.
"well, can i tell you sumn?" i nodded my head.
"sure.." i said then heard footsteps making us both look back and see sahari.
"how you get out yo crib?" acadia asked and sahari just rubbed her eyes before climbing onto the couch.
"anyways- i'm glad your actually here now....anddd you'll be with us to celebrate my 16th year of being alive." she said and i smiled.
"i'm glad i am too." i said as sahari climbed into my lap.
acadia broke a piece of her sausage and handed it to sahari who took it.
"ouuu you wanna see the nails i wanna get." she asked pulling out her phone and i nodded.
she handed me her phone and i looked at the picture.
"i want sumn like that but it'll be shorter cause i still need to be able to do stuff for my birthday." she said
sahari grabbed the phone and stared at the picture before she scrolled making me look away,"girlâ don't be looking through my stuff." acadia said snatching it out her hand.
i don't wanna see nothing i don't want or need to see-
i'm guessing it made sahari upset since her lip started curling up,"mmcht i'm sorryyyy." acadia said taking her from me and tried to kiss her but it only made her whine more and push her away.
"i forgot you don't like people kissing you." she said letting sahari go.
"anyways, i think i'm finna go to sleep now but....again i'm glad your here now." she said and hugged me, i hugged her back.
she gathered her stuff before leaving.
i looked at sahari and she stared back at me before putting her arms up, i picked her up and threw my trash away then went back upstairs.
i went into the bedroom and adaliya was still asleep.
i sat sahari down and she stared at the tv while i took off my sweatpants and shirt.
i got back in bed and laid on my back watching coco-melon.
sahari laid down laying her head on my chest facing the tv, before i knew it i heard light snores from her.
