"What am I saying" Kate groaned and buried her face into her palm
May chuckled and placed her menu flat onto the table, using her hands pull apart Kate's so the girl could meet her eyes
"What's your name?" May asked
"Kate. Kate Wilson" The brunette said
"Hi Kate. I'm May" The director smiled
"Hi may" Kate chuckled realizing the woman wanted to redo their introduction
"You seen stressed, everything okay Kate?" The woman asked
"Well for starters, I almost ran over a celebrity with my car a few minutes ago" Kate mumbled
"Wha- are you okay!?" May's eyes widened
"I'm okay, nothing major happened besides the fact that they were being bitchy about it. I didn't even touch their car" Kate mumbled
"Well atleast you're okay and not injured" May smiled
"That is true. Is there anything you want to order?" Kate asked
"Ah yes. It's been a while since I've had a burger, do you think you guys could whip one up for me?" May grinned
"Of course, is there anything else?"
"Mmhmm vanilla milkshake would sound so good right now" May chuckled
"Coming right up" Jamie said
The two girls furrowed their brows and glanced in the direction of Jamie standing in front of their table, Kate gave her a questioning look
Jamie playfully glared at the girl before ripping a page from her notepad and handing it to Kate

Kate smiled at the note before she crumbled the paper and shoved it into her back pocket
"So where are you from Kate?" May asked
"Right here actually, my parents grew up around these parts of Hollywood so we stayed" Kate smiled
"That's really cool, do you do anything besides being a waitress?" She asked
"I'm.. I'm actually an actress" Kate grinned
"Oh wow. Really?"
"Yep, it all started when I wanted to play Peter Pan in the school's musical. Now I'm 19 years old and ready to go into the world of acting" She chuckled
"And how's that going for you?" May smiled
"Great. Honestly. Great" Kate gritted through her teeth and gave the fakest smile she could give
"Oh come on Kate, we just met. You don't have to lie to me" May chuckled
"I... Yeah it's been terrible" Kate laughed
"It's tough in the real world. Hollywood's full of talented singers, artists, actors. They're all ready for that leap, that opportunity to make it big. Its never easy, I can tell you that. But when you make those dreams a reality, everything you've ever hoped for is worth it. Those sleepless nights you'd spend memorizing scripts, the hours you spend filing, the loss of energy in your body. But it's always worth it in the end when everything we've wished for, happens" May smiled sweetly
Kate felt her heart swell in her chest as her smile reached her ear. Here she was in a booth with May Hills who was giving her advice. God she was ready to die happy

"I admire you so much, I've read so much about you and I've followed your work. You make me want to be an actress, your movies as so damn special, there's always a hint of May Hills in it. You're a legend and I love you so much. Thank you for even listening to me" Kate chuckled
"You're such a sweetheart" May smiled
"So I've been told" Kate playfully scoffed and tossed her hair over her shoulders, gaining some soft of confidence as May's laughed filled the entire diner
Eyes were snapped in their direction, confused looks onto why Ms Hills was even sitting with a waitress
"So why are you in town?" Kate asked, curious to know if the rumors were true
May but down on her bottom lip and glanced around the room, people quickly turned their attention away from them and continued on with their meal
"Can you keep a secret Kate?" May smiled
"Ofcourse, they call me the secret keeper. Because I'm the keeper of secrets, got it?" Kate awkwardly tried to explain
"Oh for fuck sakes" Ethan face palmed
"I'm actually working on a few film" May smiled
"No way. At the studio down the street?" Kate gasped
"Yep, I've recently received the finished copy of the script from the writers and they're ready to start filming" she grinned
"Holy shit. Congratulations Ms Hills" Kate smiled
"Oh please, call me May" the woman said
"Oh... May" Kate mumbled with a red stain appearing on her cheek already
"Are you hooked on any auditions?" May asked
"unfortunately no, the diner has been busy for the past month, hasn't allowed me to even take a break"
"Damn, I guess you haven't showered in a while either huh?" May giggled
"Was it that obvious?" Kate chuckled
"Nah I'm just messing with you" the director smiled
"Can I ask more questions or is it confidential?"
"I... Sure, I'll see what I could do" May said
"Is the film about action?"
"No.. It's romance actually" May smiled
"oh wow... How long has production been on?" Kate asked
"Not long actually, it's been in the works for a month now but we've finally got our main star" May said
"Congratulations" Kate smiled
"Nothing to celebrate about yet, we also need another main star" May said
"Oh.. Really?" Kate asked
"Yep, we're actually sending out auditions tomorrow"
"WHAT!?" The three teenagers said in unison
May furrowed her brows and glanced in the direction of Ethan and Jamie who were behind the bar, it was obvious that they were listening to the conversation
Their eyes went wide and they ducked behind the bar, avoding the eyes of the director
May chuckled when Ethan's hand reached up on the counter, feeling around for his plate with his burger on it before be pulled it down with him
"Auditions, tomorrow?" Kate asked
"Yep, we need a female star to play the bestfriend in the script"
"Female role!?" The three said in unison again
"Ya know, you just just join us. It's obvious that I know you're listening in" May chuckled
The two teens popped their head up from the bar and gave the most awkward smile they had
"Sorry" they mumbled
"Don't apologize, come on. Sit with us" May smiled
The two teens hopped over the bar, May's eyes went wide when they crashed into a few dishes, causing eyes to turn in their direction again. But the teens didn't care, they were way too excited.
"As I saying. We need a role for a female bestfriend and we need someone as soon as possible. Preferably around age 17 - 20" May said
There was an explosion in her brain... the good sort... the type that carried more possibilities than she could be conscious of... but there were hundreds of ideas there in that buzz of electricity. It was in that moment that Kate relaized there was a possibility of her being in a movie.
A movie. Not a short film or some amateur short budget movie a YouTuber would make thinking they actually made a masterpiece. But an actual, movie.
"I'm 19!" Kate squealed, already getting excited
"And I have wigs and makeup!" Ethan squealed
"I'm sure you'd make a lovely drag queen but I don't think the other producers would agree to you auditioning" May chuckled, causing Ethan to pout
"What about you? Are you interested?" May asked the dark skinned girl
"Oh no. I'm actually a singer but I'm around these two 24/7 so I know a bit about acting. I don't think it's for me though" Jamie smiled
"Aw that's too bad" May pouted
"Wait... I can audition tomorrow. Right?" Kate asked
"Well that was the point of this conversation dear. Slow one isn't she?" May chuckled
"Very slow. Verrryy" Jamie rolled her eyes
"wait what-" Kate's eyes widened
"Oh lord. I think I better be straight forward with her" May chuckled
"Yikes. Straight. Yikes" Ethan scoffed
"Kate" May smiled
"Y.. Yes?"
"I would like to personally invite you to auditions tomorrow" May grinned
"I... Are you... Are you serious?" Kate whispered
"Dixie chicks serious" May chuckled
She could feel it. It was the calling card of adventure, of paths awaiting her feet. Whatever was ahead could be a great challenge, and there could be tears, but it was her adventure to take and so she smiled. The ideas would come, probably when she least expected it.
"Here, take this" May said as she reached into her purse, pulling out a card
"What's this for?"
"Tomorrow at the gate, if you have any trouble just give them this. They'll bring you directly to me" May smiled as she placed the card on the table
"Wooaahh" The three teenagers gawked at the card what hekd May's picture, it shined like a rainbow under the lights of the diner
"Excuse me ma'am, we've been waiting on our order-"
"Shhh" Jamie shush the man with her finger, not peeling her eyes away from the card
It was almost as if they were all in a daze. Under a hypnotic spell of the shiny card. But it wasn't that, in reality they were just astonished.
They were just a bunch of 19 year olds who recently graduated and were saving up enough money for collage or acting classes which they were barely managing to achieve. It wasn't normal that something like this would happen.
The best of the best movie director's walked into their diner and offered them access to an opportunity people would kill for
The kind of opportunity that changed your life.
"Someone pinch me, I think I'm seeing the light" Kate whispered
"When you're done, please kick my balls because that's the only thing that'll wake me up" Ethan whispered, his eyes still focused on the cards
"Is this real?" Jamie asked
"Yes it's real. You guys seem so interesting, I like you. Just take the card and come in tomorrow, walk with everything you need and give it your best shot. Who knows where life would lead you" May smiled
"T.. Than.. Thank y-"
"It's okay, thank me if you get the part" May smiled
"You mean when she gets the part" Jamie grinned
"You've got this Katie" Ethan smiled
"Excuse me.. Our orders!?" someone hissed
The teens glanced in the direction of the voices only to see a long line of soaked customers who had been out in the rain all night and angry ones who had been waiting on their orders for an hour now. Their eyes stared daggers into the teenagers as they started to yell, banging on whatever laid close
"Oh shit" Jamie hissed
"I think you guys better get to that" May chuckled
"It was so good to meet you May" Katie smiled as she hurriedly made her way out the booth
"Likewise dear" May smiled
"Ethan! Get started on those tables you said you were gonna clean!" Jamie yelled from across the diner
"A burger isn't worth it anymore" He smirked
"BOY IF YOU DON'T-"
"I'M COMING SHEESH"
The teens made their way towards the customers that yelled and glared at them. Janie moved fast and collected plates from the kitchen, making her way towards the hungry customers, dropping the plates onto their tables
"This is hell on earth" Kate groaned as she hooked her apron around her back
"Yeah? Just imagine tomorrow" Ethan mumbled as he approached the girl
"Why?" she asked, noticing Ethan has his phone in his hands
"Because the auditions were just posted online ten seconds ago and there's already 300 people who confirmed they're going to be there" Ethan muttered as he handed the girl the phone
Adrenaline flooded her system, It pumped and beated like it was trying to escape. Kate thought her heart would explode and my eyes went wide with fear. Her body froze in its tracks as fear consumed her slowly
