Jungkook woke up feeling lighter after his heartfelt conversation with Taehyung. For the first time in weeks, he didnât feel the weight of doubt crushing his chest. Taehyungâs reassurances echoed in his mind, and he decided to trust in the bond they had built.
As he stepped into the dining hall for breakfast, he was greeted by Taehyungâs warm smile.
âGood morning,â Taehyung said, placing a cup of tea in front of Jungkook. âYouâre up earlier than usual.â
Jungkook smiled shyly. âI thought we could spend the morning together before you leave for the council meeting.â
Taehyungâs expression softened. âIâd like that.â
They ate in comfortable silence, a stark contrast to the tense meals of the past few weeks. Jungkook was beginning to feel at ease, but his peace was short-lived.
A servant entered the room, bowing deeply. âYour Grace, thereâs someone at the gate requesting an audience with you.â
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. âWho is it?â
âShe claims to be... your lover, my lord,â the servant said hesitantly.
Jungkook froze, his hand hovering over his teacup.
Taehyungâs expression darkened instantly. âMy lover? Thatâs absurd. Bring her here.â
The servant nodded and quickly left the room. Jungkookâs heart raced as he looked at Taehyung.
âWhy would someone claim to be your lover?â Jungkook asked, his voice trembling.
âI have no idea,â Taehyung said, his tone cold. âBut weâre about to find out.â
---
Minutes later, the doors to the dining hall swung open, and a woman in an elegant yet overly flashy dress entered. Her confidence filled the room as she looked directly at Taehyung, ignoring Jungkook entirely.
âMy dear Duke,â she began, her voice dripping with false sweetness. âItâs been too long.â
Taehyungâs jaw tightened. âWho are you, and what nonsense are you spouting?â
The womanâs expression faltered for a moment before she recovered. âSurely you remember me, Duke. We spent such lovely times together before your marriage.â
Jungkook felt his heart sink, but Taehyung stood and crossed his arms, glaring at the woman.
âI donât know who you are, and Iâve never had a lover,â Taehyung said firmly. âYouâre here to cause trouble, but youâve come to the wrong place.â
The woman smirked, her gaze shifting to Jungkook. âOh, but does your sweet husband know that? Do you know how many nights he spent with me before he ever looked at you?â
Jungkook clenched his fists, struggling to keep his emotions in check. Taehyung, however, was furious.
âEnough!â Taehyung barked. âYou think you can waltz in here and spread lies? I donât tolerate deceit in my home.â
The woman laughed mockingly. âDeceit? Youâve forgotten so quickly, my lord. Perhaps I should remind you.â
She stepped closer to Taehyung, but before she could say another word, Taehyung called for the guards.
âRemove her from the estate,â Taehyung ordered.
The guards appeared instantly, grabbing the woman by the arms.
âYouâll regret this, Taehyung,â she hissed as she was dragged away.
---
Once the woman was gone, the room fell silent. Jungkook stared at his plate, his appetite gone.
âJungkook,â Taehyung said gently, sitting beside him. âDonât let her words get to you. Sheâs a liar, and I have no idea why she came here.â
Jungkook nodded slowly. âI want to believe you, but... itâs hard when she seemed so sure of herself.â
Taehyung sighed and took Jungkookâs hands in his. âI swear to you, on my honor and everything I hold dear, that woman means nothing to me. I donât even know her name.â
Jungkook looked into Taehyungâs eyes, searching for any hint of deception. All he saw was sincerity.
âI believe you,â Jungkook whispered, though the doubt still lingered in the back of his mind.
---
Later that evening, as Jungkook prepared for bed, he couldnât stop thinking about the womanâs visit. Her confidence had shaken him, even though Taehyung had stood by his side.
âAre you still thinking about her?â Taehyungâs voice pulled Jungkook from his thoughts.
Jungkook turned to see Taehyung standing in the doorway, his expression soft.
âA little,â Jungkook admitted.
Taehyung walked over and placed a hand on Jungkookâs cheek. âIâll do whatever it takes to prove to you that youâre the only one for me.â
Jungkook leaned into the touch, tears welling in his eyes. âI donât want to doubt you, Taehyung. I really donât.â
âYou donât have to,â Taehyung said. âLet me handle this. Iâll find out who sent that woman and why.â
Jungkook nodded, finally feeling a glimmer of hope. As he lay in bed that night, Taehyungâs promise echoed in his mind. For the first time, he allowed himself to trust that they could overcome anything together.
