Chapter Forty - Video Call
Milo's P.O.V -
Once we got into our room both me and Lucy immediately passed out, when we woke we found that my uncle Marco and my cousins had arrived so we spent the next few hours with them.
At about eight we went back into our room with Alfie.
"I'm going to shower." Lucy told me before quickly entering the bathroom and turning the water on.
Alfie flopped onto his bed yawning loudly. "I'm already ready to go home." He grumbled.
"Yeah." I spoke quietly with a nod. "So, uh, Grandad's got pretty bad."
Alfie nodded sitting up. "Yeah, he can't talk anymore."
"And Grandma has it too." I whispered. "Did you know?"
"Didn't you?" He frowned.
I shook my head. "My mum didn't tell me."
His face scrunched up slightly but he chose not to say anything else.
A phone buzzed on the bed beside me. I looked to see a facetime call from Wyatt on Lucy's phone.
I answered it running my hand through my hair to make it less messy before talking.
"Hey Wyatt." I forced a smile.
"Hi Milo." He grinned overly excited. "Where's Lucy?"
"She's in the shower, she only just got in there so she'll be a while still." I explained.
His smile dampened slightly but he remained smiling. "Oh that's fine, I'll just talk to you in the meantime then."
I looked in the background to see that he was sat in the living room, I could see the kitchen in the back and there was a very familiar silhouette moving around in there.
"Is that Lincoln?" I asked my eyes focused on him.
"Oh." Wyatt turned around looking behind him before turning back to me. "Yeah it is but don't worry he can't hear you I have headphones in."
He gestured to them and I nodded slowly.
"I called him earlier but he didn't answer, it was late at night so I assumed he was asleep but he didn't call me back in the morning." I told him.
"That's because he gave me his phone." Wyatt said glancing behind him again. "I have it in my desk drawer and I haven't checked on it since he gave it to me."
"He gave you his phone?" I frowned. "Why?"
"So that he wouldn't be calling and texting you all day, or waiting for you to talk to him. That would drive him insane." He shrugged.
I nodded. "Makes sense."
Lincoln must have heard that Wyatt was talking about him so he wandered over to him.
"You on the phone with Lucy?" Lincoln spoke faintly before disappearing from sight.
Wyatt was no longer staring at the phone and instead was looking at where I think the armchair is. That must be where Lincoln is.
Wyatt shifted awkwardly in his seat. "Uh, no. It's Milo, I'm waiting for Lucy to get out of the shower."
I anxiously waited for Lincoln's reply but there wasn't one.
Wyatt eventually looked back to me but occasionally glanced at Lincoln with concern.
"Uh." I bit my lip looking away from the screen. "Can you give the phone to Lincoln?"
Wyatt nodded slowly. "Okay, but I need to talk to you later."
"About what?" I frowned in confusion.
He glanced over at Lincoln once again. "It's a private matter, we'll talk when no ones around."
"Oooh." Alfie chuckled. "Secretive, who's that?"
"Wyatt." I told him. "Lucy's boyfriend."
Alfie walked over sitting beside me. He stared at Wyatt with interest.
"What happened to Oliver?" He asked still staring at the screen.
I shrugged. "It didn't work out."
"Who's that guy Milo?" Wyatt asked.
"Alfie, my cousin." I told him as Alfie moved away. "Now can you give the phone to Lincoln?"
"Oh right." Wyatt exclaimed unplugging his headphones. "Lincoln here you go."
Nothing happened for a moment before the phone got handed to Lincoln, he stared at me nervously not saying anything.
"Hey, how are you?" I asked him.
"Okay." He mumbled not looking me in the eye.
I bit my cheek, he was obviously lying but I wasn't sure if I should bring that up.
"Trouble in paradise?" Alfie smirked at me.
I looked at him and then back at the phone not wanting to entertain him with a response.
"I'm going to find somewhere private." I told Lincoln. "Give me a minute."
I left the room before finding my mums room and walking in knowing she would still be downstairs with my uncles.
By how quiet it was I assumed that all of Roberto's children were asleep which I was thankful for. I didn't want them being noisy all night while I was trying to recover from jetlag.
I sat down on her bed laying my crutches on the floor before looking at my phone. I smiled nervously at him.
"I'm sorry." I told him. "I was quite harsh and shouldn't have left you like that."
He stayed silent for a few moments. "You were right."
I looked at him surprised.
"I was neglecting my family and my pack and I was too blind to see it." Lincoln told me finally staring at me properly. "I've been doing what you told me to, spending time with everyone. Especially Victoria."
I smiled widely. "What did you do with her?"
"At first we were just watching movies together because I had nothing to say." He admitted. "But then we went to some fashion museum, which was incredibly boring by the way, we went to the zoo this morning. It was too cold for the zoo and we couldn't see a lot of the animals because they had to be kept inside. Then we are going ice skating later."
"That's great Lincoln." I spoke genuinely.
"I also went to pack training, for the first time since I met you. People were quite surprised to see me but they were happy. I hung out with some of the warriors after." He told me with interest. "I also spent time with Cole and Cora, I haven't spoken to them in a while for anything other than pack business. Cora is showing more."
I watched him talk for the next five minutes about everyone he had been talking too in the last couple days. "I'm so proud of you Lincoln."
"That means a lot." He smiled at me. "But I've really missed you Milo."
"I've missed you too." I watched as his face turned nervous.
"Um." He bit his lip.
"What?" I frowned.
"No it's nothing, don't worry." He forced a smile.
He's said that before.
"Lincoln, you know you can tell me anything right?" I asked him.
He nodded but didn't say anything.
"I love you Lincoln." I spoke as the door opened, my eyes widened in alarm as my grandmother walked in.
"I love you too Milo." Lincoln said causing her face to scrunch up in confusion.
"Shit." I mumbled ending the call and tossing Lucy's phone onto the bed.
"Milo?" She looked at me confused as she entered the room.
"Sì, sono Milo." I smiled at her. (Yes, I'm Milo.)
"So che sei Milo, idiota." She laughed slightly. (I know you are Milo, you idiot.)
My heart swelled as I listened to her, this is the grandmother I remembered. She walked over sitting on the bed next to me, she picked up the phone looking at it before placing it back down gently.
"Chi era quello al telefono, Milo?" She asked making my heart drop. (Who was that on the phone, Milo?)
I bit my lip looking away. "Un amico." I lied. (A friend.)
"Mentire è un peccato." She told me a look of disappointment spreading across her face. (Lying is a sin.)
I sighed looking down not saying anything, the phone buzzed between us. The abrupt ending off the call must have concerned Lincoln.
My grandmother looked down at it. "Hai una relazione omosessuale con questo ragazzo, giusto?" (You have a homosexual relationship with this boy, correct?)
I grimaced not able to meet her eye, I nodded not trusting my own voice.
"Non approvo." She told me. (I don't approve.)
"Lo so." I finally looked up at her with watery eyes. (I know.)
I tried my best not to start crying, my grandmother noticed and placed an arm over my shoulders.
"Sei felice?" She asked me. (Are you happy?)
"Si." I swallowed harshly.
I couldn't figure out what she was thinking, what she was feeling.
"E non hai intenzione di cambiare?" I winced at her words. (And you don't plan on changing?)
I shook my head nervously. She sighed mumbling under her breath about God.
"Dio ti punirà ." She told me. (God will punish you.)
I didn't do anything, this wasn't the time to say that I didn't believe in God.
"Goditi la vita con lui." She said to my surprise. (Enjoy your life with him.)
I looked up at her with hopeful eyes, I felt like a child again. All my confidence was based on what she said next, I needed her.
"Perché andrai all'inferno." She spoke sadly and my stomach dropped. (Because you will be going to hell.)
Somehow this wasn't that bad, she didn't say it with malice. She considered my actions a sin and believed I would be punished accordingly, but she was still giving me the choice to live how I wanted without judgement.
"Lo so grazie." I smiled at her. (I know, thank you.)
She stood up from the bed looking back at me with a soft smile.
"Quando dimentico questo, non ricordarmelo." She walked towards the door. (When I forget this, don't remind me.)
She stopped at the doorway looking back at me. "Ti amo, Milo."
"Ti amo, Nonna."
I watched as she walked out closing the door behind her.
I picked up the phone which had begun to buzz again, I answered the face time call finding Lincoln staring at me with concern.
"Milo, are you okay?" He spoke quickly.
"I'm fine." I reassured him. "My grandmother walked in and overheard us talking."
His eyes widened. "Did she find out?"
"Yeah." I nodded looking at the closed door. "It went better than expected."
"So she didn't care?" Lincoln asked me relaxing into the sofa.
"No she did, she said that she didn't approve and that I was going to hell." I told him. "But in a good way."
"Right." He stretched out the word unsure. "I often take people condemning me to hell as a good thing."
I laughed lightly. "You'd have to know her to understand."
Lincoln just smiled. "So does that mean I can meet her?"
I shook my head instantly. "She told me to never bring it up again."
"That's okay." His smile didn't fade. "I'm glad things went well."
I picked up my crutches standing up. "I'm going back to my room so I won't be able to hear you for a minute."
"Alright." He said.
I put the phone in my pocket before making my way back to my room. I sat down on my bed looking around. Alfie was laying in bed scrolling through his phone meanwhile Lucy was still in the shower using up all the hot water.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket seeing that both Lincoln and Wyatt were on the screen.
"Hi." I smiled at them.
"Is Lucy still in the shower?" Wyatt asked as the door of the bathroom opened.
"No she just got out." I told him.
"Is that Wyatt?" She asked stepping into view.
"Yeah." I nodded before properly looking at her. "What are you wearing?"
"A t-shirt." She deadpanned.
It was big on her and reached mid thigh, and she wasn't wearing anything else but that wasn't the issue.
"Is that my t-shirt?" I narrowed my eyes at her already knowing the answer.
"Yeah." She smiled. "Don't I look cute in it."
I clenched my jaw. "Lucy, I did not bring enough clothes for you to wear my t-shirts as pajamas."
She shrugged sitting down next to me looking at the phone.
"Hi Wyatt." She grinned at him.
"Hey Lucy." He smiled. "You could've taken some of my clothes to wear, instead of stealing Milo's."
"I was going to but I forgot." She answered.
I rolled my eyes. "Lucy, I really need that t-shirt I don't have many here."
"Wear some of Alfie's." She told me.
"You wear some of Alfie's then." I retorted.
"She is not wearing some other guys clothes."
"Neither of you are wearing my clothes."
Wyatt and Alfie spoke in unison both with an agitated look.
Lucy stood up staring at me. "Fine." She pulled the top over her head passing it to me.
I took it from her with a sigh. She was stood in front of me in her bra and a pair of Calvin Klein's, my Calvin Klein's.
"Seriously?" I glared at her.
She smirked in amusement.
"Did Lucy just take off that t-shirt?" I nodded at Wyatt. "In front of you."
I nodded again, I watched as Wyatt's face morphed into annoyance.
"Lucy!" He spoke harshly.
"Wyatt, it's fine." She told him going back into view of the camera.
His eyes turned dark. "Put some clothes on Lucy." He told her. "No one apart from me wants to see you in your underwear."
Lucy glared at him slightly offended.
"My underwear." I mumbled correcting him.
"Speak for yourself Wyatt." Alfie spoke up with a teasing smirk.
"Is that your cousin?" Wyatt growled.
"Yeah." I smiled wanting to annoy Wyatt and Lucy. "He's really enjoying the view."
"Lucy!" Wyatt snapped in response.
"Seriously Milo?" Lucy stared at me.
"That's what you get for wearing my clothes." I grinned.
