Chapter 22: Chapter 17: Marks & Announcements

The Mage & His AlphaWords: 14174

AN: The mosaic above is a black and white version of the Mage Symbol in the Dragon Age series, and its filter is black and white because that's the mark that Max gave to Lucas.

This is the mark that Lucas gave Max. Not as creative, but it works. Back to the story!

Lucas's POV-

It was the next morning. Max was still asleep, snuggled into my bare chest. As I gently played with his hair, I thought about last night's events. Max had a nightmare, which led us to the lake to seek spirits that lived in it according to legend. But it turns out that those spirits were actually three goddesses, who revealed that Max is a Seer, which explained his nightmares. They also warned us about another mage named Clara Westwood, whom Max was forcefully betrothed to before his banishment. She wasn't happy, so she decided to raise an army of demons to wipe out our pack, and take Max as hers.

But the goddesses gave us tools to help us. Selene's blessing to me and the pack and turning Max into a hybrid by giving him a wolf. Aphrodite's blessing to all mated couples in the pack. And that staff that Demeter gave to Max. It was a lot to process, but not an impossible thing to do. We need to tell the pack today, and begin Max's wolf training right afterwards. But that will be difficult because he'll need time to get used to being a wolf. He's connected to the mind link now because I've marked him, so that makes it easier to communicate with him in wolf form.

Checking my phone, I see that it's a bit past 10 am. With everything that happened yesterday, I'm not surprised that we slept in this late. I sat my phone on my bedside table, and gently shook Max awake. His light blue eyes fluttered open and looked up at me. I smiled at my precious mate and kissed his addicting lips, filled to the brim with love. He returned it, with just as much love.

"Good morning, baby", I greeted. He yawns.

"Good morning, Liebe", Max said, teasingly and tiredly. I laughed lightly.

"Liebe?" I asked, confused on what he said. He grinned widely.

"You're the love of my life, and the love I've never had", Max said. "And Liebe is German for 'Love', and since I have a lot of German in me thanks to my mother, I wanted to give you a pet name based on that." He gave me a cheeky grin, and I looked into his eyes, staring into them lovingly.

"Now I need a pet name for you", I said. He smiled at me with mischief.

"Good luck with that", Max joked. "Mine will still be better." Oh, it's on now. But I just chuckle and shake my head however, making him think that he's won.

Max's stomach growled, letting us both know that it's breakfast time.

"What are you in the mood for?" I ask him. "Whatever you want." He thought about it for a minute, and then gave me a hopeful look, puppy eyes included.

"Homemade breakfast burritos?" Max asked. I chuckled.

"Of course", I answered. Kissing his forehead, I hop out of bed and made my way to the kitchen.

"Come and get me when it's ready", Max says from behind me. "I'll be in my alchemy room, working on my surprise for the pack. It's almost ready."

"Alright", I respond. "But before you go." I lightly trace my fingers across the mark on his neck. He shivers a little from it. The mark he has is back and white, with a full moon with a wolf paw in it's center. "Lucas" was written across it in cursive writing.

"I love the mark I gave you", I complement, cupping his cheek and rubbing my thumb on it.

"I love it too", Max said. "It's pretty. I love the one I gave you though too." He held out his hand and a small mirror appeared in it in a puff of white smoke. "Take a look." He handed me the mirror and I looked at the mark on my neck. It looked like a black and white circle mosaic, with a hand in the middle of the circle, and a star shape in the palm. It had "Maxwell" written across it in cursive. Personally, the mark Max gave me is so much more unique and amazing than the one I gave him.

"That's funny", Max said, peering at my neck.

"What?" I asked.

"The mark i gave you is the Mage Symbol", he replied. "I thought it would be werewolf related. But it looks really nice on you." He lightly brushed his fingers on it, making me shiver. Max's stomach grumbled again, snapping us back to reality. He blushed bright red, and I snickered.

"I'll go start breakfast, you go work on your experiment", I said, pecking his lips. "I love you, so much." He kissed me back and smiled.

"I love you too, so much", he replied, brightly, then he went to his old bedroom. As I was preparing the food, I forgot to ask Max if he wanted bacon or sausage in his burrito. Deciding to prank him, I opened the mind link and focused on him.

"Hey Max, bacon or sausage?" I asked, casually. I heard a small crash come from his alchemy room. I quickly turn off the stove and ran to Max's old room. I busted through the door to see Max carefully cleaning up a small pile of glass shards. I rushed to his side and kissed him. He stood there shocked, but kissed me back. I pulled back and looked him up and down.

"Are you ok?" I asked, worried. "I heard that crash, which I'm guessing came from that glass." He smiled and pecked my cheek.

"I'm alright Liebe", Max reassured. "You just startled me when your voice popped into my head, and I dropped an empty vial. Nothing to worry about."

"I'm still sorry though", I retorted. "I tried to be funny and scare you with the mind link. Ever since I marked you you've been connected to it." He took my hand and held it to his chest.

"As much as I'm happy to be connected to the mind link", Max said. "If you ever do something like that again, you'll get no kisses for an entire day." His voice was sweet, but he definitely was not lying.

"We'll see about that", I said. I pulled him close and began littering his face with kisses. Max began giggling hysterically.

"What are you doing, stop it!" Max squealed. I kept kissing him for a few more seconds and finally stopped. I smiled innocently at him.

"I'm just getting my kisses in", I said, just as innocently. "Because there is a great possibility that I will scare you again." He gave me a playful glare.

"You're an asshole", Max said. I laughed loudly and gave him a goofy smile.

"But I'm your asshole, right?" I asked, teasingly. He rolled his eyes in amusement.

"Yes Liebe, you're my asshole", Max said. We both laughed like idiots again.

"Breakfast is almost ready, so you might as well come back to the kitchen", I said.

"One second", Max replied. He turned back to the small glass pile on his potion station. He waved his hand, and the glass shards moved around and formed a basic vial, but with cracks all over it. The cracks glowed bright yellow and when the light cleared, the vial looked good as new.

"Breakfast time!" Max declared, and he sped to the kitchen. I chuckled and went after him. He was already sitting at the island, and was bouncing in his seat. I snickered and went back to the stove to find out that that the food I've already made was cold. I pouted and dumped it into the trash, and got new ingredients. If Granny tought me one thing, it was to never eat or even think about reheating food that was left cold on the stove after just getting cooked. She always said to make it fresh, as that was the best way to eat it.

"Can we watch Twilight again while we eat breakfast Lucas?" Max asked while I peeled potatoes.

"Of course", I said. "Just don't start it without me!" He giggled and ran to the couch. As he set the movie up I grabbed some more bacon from the fridge and tossed it into a pan. I then put a few eggs in another pan and seasoned them. I made sure to watch them, to make sure that they scramble them. Speaking of which, he didn't answer my question.

"Hey Max", I called. "You never told me if you wanted bacon or sausage in your burrito." He chuckled.

"Bacon please!" he called from the couch.

"Sure", I replied. Making sure the eggs wouldn't over cook, I grabbed another few pieces of bacon and tossed it into the pan with the other pieces. I then take two soft tortilla shells and put one on each plate, and waited for the food to finish cooking. A short time later, I was piling the eggs into the shells, and I quickly chopped the bacon into bits, and I now was now neatly folding the sells. I walked over to the couch and handed Max his plate and I sat mine one the coffee table and went to the fridge and got the orange juice. I poured two glasses and put the juice away. I gave Max a glass and I grabbed my plate. Max pushed play and we resumed Twilight: Breaking Dawn Pt 1 while we ate our breakfast, which was delicious by the way. I mean, not to sound boastful, but it was because I made them.

"We have to tell the pack about what happened last night sometime today", I said, after we finished eating.

"You're right", Max replied. "They need to know, and we need to get as much preparation done for the battle as we can."

"Let's tell them around mid-day", I suggested. "Everyone will be awake by then."

"Sounds good to me", Max agreed.

Time Skip to 2pm:

We once again stood in front of the doors to the balcony. I opened the mind link and told everyone to assemble at the balcony. A few minutes later all of the pack members were waiting for us. I took Max's hand and led him onto the balcony. We looked over the crowd, everyone giving us their full attention.

"Thank you all for coming", I said, my voice carrying out across the crowd. "It is very important that you all listen to what we talk about, because we have dire news." Some exchanged worried looks or mumbled. After a moment, I asked them to quiet down.

"Last night, Max and I learned that someone is planning on invading our pack, and no they're not rouges", I said. More mumbling went on, this time their tones fearful.

"In order to fully understand this situation, you need to know the entire story", Max piped up. "Before I came here, I lived in the Lavellen Mage Clan, and my father is currently the First Enchanter. He had an arranged marriage set for me and another mage, her name being Clara Westwood. She is the daughter of another First Enchanter from a different clan, and we were arranged to be married so we could provide heirs for our clans. But since I'm gay, have never met her, and my father is very homophobic, I knew that something negative would happen if I came out to him. But I worked up my courage and told him that I am gay. As I expected, he fell into a rage and banished me as a result. Clara somehow has found out, and she wasn't happy." He paused, and everybody were giving sympathetic looks to Max, and were talking quietly amongst each other.

"It turns out she wanted the arranged marriage to happen", he continued. "She wants me for herself, and she'll go to any cost to do so. As we speak, Clara is raising an army of demons to wipe out the pack and take me as hers. We only just found out about this because I've had vivid nightmares of the events."

"I suffered from another one last night. So, Lucas and I went to the lake not far from the pack house. There is a legend that wise and kind spirits live in its waters. But when I summoned them, they weren't spirits. They were three goddesses. Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love, Selene, the Moon Goddess, and Demeter, the Goddess of Earth. They confirmed that I was a Seer, and that my nightmares were actually visions of the possible futures."

"But the goddesses gave us tools to help us fight and win", I chimed in. "Selene gave all of our wolves a blessing, that way we have some magical resistance in both human and wolf form. Aphrodite also gave us all a blessing, making it so that any who die will never be truly be separated from their loved ones." The people were absolutely bewildered, and there was a lot of mumbling now.

"Demeter gave me a gift", Max said. "She gave me a new staff, one that allows me to channel my magic more powerfully without using as much of my energy to cast the spells. It also gives me the ability to permanently strip the magic from any spellcaster, no matter the rank, strength, or skill of their powers. Only the gods are immune to it's effects. But that isn't all."

"Selene gave me an Alpha wolf spirit", he pressed on. More mumbling, but more of curiosity. "This is so I can fight along side Lucas and the warriors and have a surprise for the army. As I've already mentioned, I still have my magic. To put it simply, I'm now a hybrid between werewolf and mage. But back to the matter at hand. Preparations should begin immediately, and Lucas is going to be training me on how to fight as a wolf, as well as shifting and other things. Tomorrow I will teach the warriors on which spells and attacks the mages and demons in Clara's army will most likely use. They will most likely use silver and wolfsbane, so be ready for that. Thank you all for coming. I'd like to apologize for bringing this upon you all, and I promise you that we will bring this pack to victory! You are now dismissed."

He was about to turn to me, when we heard a man's voice shout "Howl for the Alphas!" Wolfish howls rung out throughout the clearing of the pack house, as all of the pack members howled in respect to us. I smiled warmly at them. They gave me hope that this will turn out alright. A minute later they dispersed and went to go do their duties. As we watched them leave, I pulled Max close to me and pecked his lips.

"You did amazing, Whiteout", I said. He grinned.

"I'm guessing Whiteout is my new pet name?" Max asked, still smiling.

"I mean your wolf is white, and when you teleport or summon an object, it's always with white smoke", I said. "So I thought it was fitting." He giggled.

"You're ridiculous", Max chuckled, and he pulled my face close to his. "But I love it, and you. My pet name for you though, is still better."He by now was wiggling his eyebrows. I just chuckled and pulled him in for a sweet, passion filled kiss.

"I love you too."

To be continued...
