Chapter Twenty-Six
Grace
It had been a couple of days since my first eye appointment with Dr. Martin.
"Are you ready to go, love?" Luisana hovered beside me anxiously.
"I'm ready." I smiled, my chest tightening nervously.
I was heading to the hospital to have my eye surgery. By this time tomorrow, I would- hopefully, be able to see again.
She led me to the car and we began the fifteen minute journey to the nearest hospital. It seemed like the longest trip of my entire life.
"Are you nervous?" Luisana asked.
I shook my head. "I think I'm more excited now than anything." The car had stopped and Luisana began to help me out of the car.
She laughed, her hand tightening around my own as she led me through the hospital doors.
"I think I'm more nervous than you are!" She said.
I laughed as we stopped walking.
"Hi there, we're here to check in. Grace is here for eye surgery today." Luisana said.
"Alright, please take these forms with you and head down wing B. Your nurse will take them from you when they're done."
We walked down the hallway as quickly as we could, Luisana could feel my anxiety begin. If I had thought the car ride was the longest trip of my life- this hallway rivalled it.
Luisana spoke to the receptionist in wing B and we were quickly shown to my room. After about an hour of filling out forms and informing them that I was, in fact allergic to penicillin, I changed into my hospital gown. Dr. Martin was going to be doing my surgery and he met us in the room shortly after.
"Are you ready for this, Grace?" Dr. Martin said.
"You have no idea," I laughed quietly.
The door opened and Michael spoke, "Hey, kid. I'll be in the waiting room with Luisana for you to get out. You'll do great." He hugged me tight and kissed me on the head.
"Thanks Michael." I said, trying not to cry. I was emotionally overwhelmed.
Luisana gave me a kiss on the cheek and they left me to my fate. I laid back on the metal table and breathed in the chemicals that would knock me out. The next time I opened my eyes would hopefully be much different.
