Chapter (145 +25 BONUS Chapter 0145 Noah Noah couldnât stop himself from practically vibrating with rage as he watched Hannah and Drake laughing together, clinking their glasses and making plans to be âdinner buddiesâ.
Goddess, it made Noah sick. And what made it even worse was the way that Drake looked at her; the way his eyes crinkled at the comer when she spoke, the way they leaned a little closer together.
Hannah had handled the whole tabloid situation surprisingly well, crafting a new narrative that seemed to appease the masses and repair her public image-there was no denying that, and Noah was impressed, not only by that, but also by her upcoming campaign. It seemed as though she was smarter and more prepared than she let on.
But that didnât make Noah any less uneasy about the undeniable closeness between her and Drake. And now, the idea of them going out on countless dinner dates together.... Well, the thought practically made his blood boil.
Downing the last of his lemonade, Noah slammed his glass on the bar and turned toward Hannah.
âCan I talk to you for a second?â he asked, completely ignoring Drakeâs presence over his shoulder.
Hannah rolled her eyes but nodded toward Drake and allowed Noah to lead her away. A few moments later, they found themselves in a narrow hallway, away from the prying eyes over the other event goers.
Hannah turned to Noah and placed her hands on her hips. âWhat is it?â
âIf you go out with Drake to âtest foodâ or whatever the hell heâs suggesting, youâre going to give him-and everyone the wrong idea,â Noah hissed, keeping his voice low so as not to be overheard. âHeâll think itâs a date.â
Noah expected Hannah to be smart about this; but to his surprise, she merely shrugged, her expression shockingly bored. âSo what if he does?â she asked, checking her nails.
Noah recoiled, blinking rapidly. âWhat do you mean, âso whatâ? You canât be serious, Hannah.â
âWhy not?â She arched a perfectly sculpted eyebrow at him. âDrakeâs a good man. Heâs kind to me-far kinder than youâve been as of late. And weâre getting divorced soon, so...â
Her voice trailed off, but the implication lingered. Was she seriously suggesting...?
Anger blazed through Noahâs veins like wildfire. How dare she insinuate something like that? Without thinking, he stepped forward, caging Hannah against the wall with his body as his hand slammed into the plaster beside her head.
âYou think Drake is kind?â he snarled, his face mere inches from hers. âYou think he cares about you the way I do?â
He searched Hannahâs eyes, hoping-no, expecting-to see a flicker of desire, a hint of the passion that had once burned so bright between them. Surely she couldnât be immune to his proximity, to the heat rolling off his body in waves. Surely she would take back what she had said.
But Hannah merely regarded him with cool indifference, her gaze unwavering. Then, with a harsh shove, she pushed him away, putting distance between their bodies once more.
+25 BONUS Chapter 0145 âWatch yourself, Noah,â she warned in a low voice. âWeâre in public.â
Stumbling back a step, Noah could only gape at her, his mouth working uselessly as he watched Hannah stride off, her hips swinging dangerously.
Later that day, after the event had wound down and the crowds had dispersed, Noah found himself pacing the floor of the guest bedroom, his head spinning. He still couldnât shake the image of Hannah and Drake together, but that wasnât all that was on his mind lately.
Noah hadnât stopped thinking about what Hannah had told him at the Luna Queenâs reception-about her ovulation window.
He still felt like a fool for that, but he hadnât had the time to dig into it yet.
And now, with Hannah implying that there might be a relationship with Drake in the future... What if Drake got her pregnant?
After all, if she was able to have sex outside of her ovulation window and yet had blatantly turned Noah down on more than one occasion....
Noah couldnât take it anymore. Desperate for answers, he snatched up his phone and dialed the number for their family doctorâs office. If anyone could shed light on everything, then it would be Dr. Patel.
The line rang several times before a cheerful voice answered, âDr. Patelâs office, how can I help you?â
âYes, hello,â Noah said, running a hand through his hair. âThis is Alpha Noah. I need to speak with Dr. Patel,â
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line. âIâm afraid Dr. Patel isnât available at the moment. Heâs currently out of the country on holiday.â
Noahâs brow furrowed. âHoliday? But he never mentioned taking any time off.â
âIt was rather sudden, from what I understand,â the receptionist admitted. âHe didnât show up to the office one morning and left a note saying he had gone abroad. No one was expecting it.â
A knot of unease formed in the pit of Noahâs stomach. In all the years he had known their family doctor, the man had never once gone on holiday without advance notice. Although, now that he thought of it... He supposed that when Hannah had her fall, one of the nurses had come to the house rather than Dr. Patel himself.
âDo you happen to know where he went?â Noah pressed. âOr when he might be back?â
âIâm afraid not, Alpha Noah. The note didnât provide many details.â
Noah pinched the bridge of his nose, exhaling slowly. âAll right. Thank you.â
âIs there anything that I could do for you instead?â the receptionist asked.
Noah paused, pursing his lips, before he nodded even though the receptionist couldnât see him. âYes, actually. Could I speak to one of the nurses?â
âAbsolutely. Iâll transfer you.â
A few moments later, Noah was on the phone with one of the nurses. âWhat seems to be the issue, Alpha +25 BONUS Chapter 2185 Noah?â the nurse asked. âIâll do whatever I can to help Noah took a steadying breath before beginning. âDr. Patel once told me that my wife, Hannah, was too... frailâ for sexual activity outside her ovulation window. But Hannah recently claimed that wasnât true. I need to know what her actual condition is and why she would be limited in that way.â
There was a heavy pause, and Noah could practically hear the nurseâs hesitation through the receiver, Iâm afraid I donât see anything of that sort in her file,â she replied slowly.
Noahâs frustration began to mount. âNothing? Not a single note anywhere?â
âIâm sorry,â the nurse said, âbut thereâs nothing. Iâll tell you what, though: Iâll leave a note for Dr. Patel, and when he returns from his holiday, heâll call you right away.â
Noahâs jaw clenched. âAlright, thatâs fine. Thank you for your time.â
With a harsh punch of his finger, Noah ended the call and tossed his phone on the bed. He let out a frustrated sigh and ran his hands through his hair.
With their family doctor on a sudden, unexplained holiday, Noah was no closer to getting to the bottom of Hannahâs âconditionâ.
Which only meant one thing: if Hannah was planning on sleeping with Drake, then he needed to step in. Quickly.
Before she got pregnant with a baby that wasnât his.
