Chapter 20
Irene.
Maybe it was settling all my emotions about Noah and our mate bond, the classes felt a lot better. There were a lot of gazes.
Some obvious pointing and head nudge in my direction, but none of it mattered.
It could also be knowing how dedicated Noah was to learning despite all that he already had. I took notes and listened for as long as I could.
By the time it was finally lunchtime, I felt like I had maxed out my brain cells. âIrene!â Lucianaâs familiar voice called out, and my eyes fell on her from tracing her voice.
Although I had to say, the call was a bad move as most people turned my way again, and it felt like the whispers in the cafeteria increased.
âI didnât think about how loud my voice was,â Luciana apologised as I stepped in front of her on the
line.
âI might have been mad, but considering that I donât have to get on that queue and I can have meat, I forgive you.â
Although, I would not have minded vegetables since I had my fill of meat during breakfast.
âI asked around; it turns out that between the third years, everyone knows thereâs nothing between Kyla and Prince Noah,â Luciana started as soon as we sat down at the same table from yesterday.
My brows arched upwards as I did my best to appear interested.
âI heard that all of the golden student thing, too, is just a faux and her grades arenât anything over the top.â
I took another gulp from my water before replying to her, âHow did the other narrative spread then, and what was her exact reason for doing that.â
Luciana shrugged. âThereâs no way to know. The only thing I can tell you is that, in the Lycan Empire, reputation is a currencyâ
âThe life that Kyla has had within and outside the walls of the academy would be changing very quickly.â
I donât ask any more questions as I allow myself to savour my lunch while my mind mulls over everything that has happened since yesterday.
Knowing how this place worked was going to determine how I got by and my living experience. I didnât want to believe that Alek or Elton would go out of their way to help me get accustomed to things or make life easier for me.

I took another look at Luciana from underneath my lashes, studying her
After all regardless of what happened, she had been the one to give me the information. More unportantly, I was confused about why Luciana would let herself get bullied by those three men when he had a supernatural gift.
All she needed to do was run, right?
âOne of those guys had super speed, too.â Liv chipped in, and I gave her a mental nod
Since she had been able to observe the battle even better than me, it made sense that she remembered all the details even better.
âI donât want the three of them.â Luciana spoke up, my brows raised in confusion.
She locked away, breaking eye contact before she replied. âI donât like the three of them and donât want to become their breeder. However, if they know that I have already manifested some power just like they guessed. they would become even more persistent.â
My stomach clenched at her plight. âIs becoming a breeder something you have no choice about?â A part of me couldnât help but wonder why they would have given me a contract if they didnât have to make it seem consensual to anyone.
Luciana sighed. âIt isnât I could sense there was a clause, and it came soon after.
âBut my parents donât mind. The three of them are from families in the council. if Iâm with them. my father gets a chance to join the Empireâs councilâ
âHe has wanted that for as long as I remember she added as an afterthought.
For a moment. I hated myself for doubting her.
I also wished I could help her. maybe think of a solution to get them off her back, but I didnât want to rush things. Maybe if Noah wasnât lying, I could ask him for help.
âI think hiding your gift is the best we can do now If anyone asks. you can tell them I have the gift of speed.â I told her, and a picture of Alek questioning me about this was formed in my mind.
Her eyes lit up. and she leaned forward to grab my hand.
âYou would do that for me? What if anyone asks you to use your gifâ Her face fell at her last
suggestion.
I had the same fear, too, but I shrugged it of
âI donât have to talk to anyone here. Besides, thereâs nothing on my class schedule that would need me to exhibit any gift.
She eventually nodded and then threw a piece of meat in her mouth.

âEven though we just met. I feel like I wouldnât know what to do without you already,â she confessed, and I chuckled, grateful that I had this at the very least.
After lunch, the classes were a lot more bearable and before long, the bell for the last period rang.
My entire b*dy was tingling as I stepped out of the classroom, a little too excited to see Noah.
The best way to get away from Sam was to avoid him. The guy was built like a mountain, and I didnât doubt that he would have any difficulty throwing me over his shoulder and sending me back home, which would suck because I was looking forward to meeting Noah.
âIrene!â Noahâs familiar voice echoed from behind me, and I turned back with a grin.
The relief that rushed through me was nothing I expected, and I walked to him, closing the gap
between us.
âYou are here.â I mumbled my eyes fixed on him and my heart thumping in my chest.
This was my fated mate.
âIâm here.â he replied and then grabbed my hand.
I donât know if itâs the bond, but I bit my l*ps from holding back a moan from that simple action.
