As the cargo shifted, the Elites exchanged tense glances. The low rumble of the machinery and the sound of crates being unloaded filled the air. They could feel their hearts pounding in sync with the vibration of the container being lifted. Y/n took a deep breath, reminding herself to stay calm and collected.
The logistics team approached, a group of burly workers who looked far too serious for their own good. Y/n's mind raced, hoping their plan would hold up under scrutiny. The lead worker eyed Kai, his brow furrowing slightly. "You're new here," he said, his tone a mix of scepticism and curiosity.
Kai, maintaining his cover as a simple worker, smiled disarmingly. "Yeah, just joined! I'm excited to help out. Heard you guys needed an extra hand."
The other workers who were part of the operation quickly chimed in, "Yeah, we've been short-staffed lately, and we brought him on board. Just another set of hands to help with the load!"
Y/n felt a flicker of anxiety, wondering if they'd convinced the logistics team. She glanced at Yujin and Chaewon, who were both keeping an eye on Kai, ready to jump in if anything went sideways.
The lead worker studied Kai for a moment longer, then seemed to shrug it off. "Alright, just stick close and do as you're told. We don't want any mistakes. This cargo needs to be delivered without a hitch."
"Of course!" Kai replied, his voice steady as he gestured for the Elites to remain quiet and unobtrusive.
Kai moved fluidly with the logistics team, helping them unload the cargo. The tension was palpable among the Elites as they waited for their opportunity. The leader of the logistics team, a stern-looking man with a clipboard in hand, stepped forward, glancing over the crates piled high.
"What kind of goods are we dealing with here?" he demanded, his voice gruff as he glanced over the clipboard he carried.
One of the crew members, trying to sound casual despite the gravity of the situation, responded, "We've got some unique supplies, shark fins from beast transformations, various potion vials, and, uh, demon horns. You know, the usual stuff!"
Y/n and Yujin froze at the mention of the horns. Their expressions hardened, the seriousness of the situation sinking in.
The leader raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued yet suspicious. "Shark fins, you say? And demon horns? Sounds like a lot of trouble if we're not careful. Where's all this coming from?"
The crew member fumbled for words, his nervousness evident. "Uh, well, they're part of a larger shipment, um, from special clientele. Nothing to worry about, we ensure everything is... properly handled."
The leader's gaze sharpened. "Right. Just make sure everything is accounted for. I don't want any slip-ups. We're already under scrutiny as it is." He gestured for the workers to keep moving.
As the cargo continued to be unloaded, the tension grew thicker.
The leader of the logistics team continued to scrutinize the cargo, his expression thoughtful. "You know," he said, his voice lowering conspiratorially, "it would be better if you guys could bring in more rare items from beasts. The boss has a particular taste for the unusual, he's a beast himself, after all. He likes to collect these kinds of things."
He paused, eyeing the workers with a mix of expectation and annoyance. "If you can get your hands on anything particularly scarce or unique, it would go a long way in earning some favor with him."
The crew member nodded eagerly, trying to please the leader. "Understood! We'll see what we can find on our next run. The beasts around here are known for some rare finds."
Y/n exchanged a glance with Yujin, her heart racing at the implications. "So, the boss is a beast?" Y/n muttered under her breath, her mind racing.
-
After all the cargo had been loaded, the leader of the logistics team nodded in satisfaction. "This is where you all stop working," he said firmly. "Now you can return. We'll handle the rest of this shipment."
The workers nodded in understanding. This was how the system worked, they knew that after finishing their tasks, they had no right to ask further questions. As the logistics team began to move, Kai felt adrenaline coursing through him.
He seized the moment to take a more strategic step. Without a sound, Kai transformed into a graceful white bird, flapping his wings and soaring into the air. From above, he could scout the movements of the logistics team more freely.
As he looked down, Kai observed every detail in sight. He searched for the entry and exit routes to the base they were heading to, ensuring he could guide his team out safely after they completed their mission.
"Make sure all these items are stored safely," one of the logistics team members said. "The boss doesn't like it when rare items go missing. We need to ensure he's happy with this shipment."
Then, Kai flew higher, positioning himself to get a clear view of the entire area.
-
The journey to the base felt excruciatingly long for Kai. As he soared through the night sky, he knew he had to stay vigilant to avoid arousing suspicion. The logistics team moved with a sense of purpose, and he had to match that energy without drawing any unwanted attention.
Kai shifted his flight path repeatedly, weaving in and out of different routes. He would sometimes fly alongside other birds, blending in with their natural movements. He would swoop in closer to the ground, then rise again, always on the lookout for any prying eyes from the logistics team or anyone else nearby.
Every time he thought he was in a safe zone, he adjusted his course, shifting to a new direction or gliding along with a flock of birds. It was a tiring routine, and he could feel the strain in his wings. But he couldn't afford to let his guard down, the safety of his teammates depended on him.
As he flew, he observed the terrain below. The path twisted through dense foliage and rocky outcrops, making it challenging to keep track of their destination. Occasionally, he would catch glimpses of the logistics team in the distance, their trucks rumbling over the uneven ground.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Kai spotted the entrance to the base, a heavy metal door, surrounded by towering walls. He carefully maneuvered around the area, making sure to stay out of sight while also noting any potential escape routes for when the time came.
With his heart racing, he began to circle above the entrance, scanning for any guards or security measures in place. He needed to ensure that when the Elites arrived, they could execute their plan without a hitch. Kai shifted once more, this time heading back toward his teammates to relay everything he had seen.
On the other side, inside the cargo hold, the Elites remained silent, their hearts pounding as they strained to listen to the conversation between two workers outside.
"Have you heard about the boss's latest acquisition?" one worker said, his voice low, "They say he's got a new beast in captivity, something big and dangerous."
"Really?" the other replied, curiosity piqued. "What kind of beast?"
"Not sure exactly, but they say it's got some strange abilities. The boss seems keen on it. He's been planning something, and I don't think it's just for his collection," the first worker continued, glancing around as if afraid someone might overhear.
The second worker chuckled nervously. "You know how he gets. Always looking for the next big thing. Remember when he nearly lost his head over that griffon boy? This new beast must be something special."
"Yeah, the whispers say he's captured it for more than just display. They say he's planning to use its flesh for some kind of feast, just as usual" the first worker said, his voice dropping even lower.
"Wait, what kind of beast are we talking about? One with horns?" the second worker asked, eyes wide with intrigue. "I've heard tales of beasts that can tear through armor, not just for show but to sustain themselves."
"Exactly! Some even say it has the ability to regenerate," the first worker replied, glancing over his shoulder again. "If he gets his hands on it, who knows what he'll do?"
"Let's just hope we're not caught in the crossfire when things go south," the second worker added, his tone shifting from curious to serious. "You know how he can be when things don't go his way."
The first worker nodded, "Just keep your head down and do your job. If the boss finds out we're talking about this..."
The conversation trailed off as they moved away, leaving the Elites in tense silence.
As the creaking of massive iron gates echoed around them, the Elites tensed in the darkness of their cargo. They knew from the deep rumble and the shifting air that they had entered the base.
Then, they heard muffled voices outside.
"Move these crates to the south warehouse," ordered a gruff voice, firm and authoritative. "We'll start inspection first thing in the morning."
A collective, silent sigh of relief rippled through the Elites. It seemed that, at least for now, they would be left undisturbed. But as the warehouse workers shuffled closer, the Elites knew it wasn't time to relax just yet. Every creak, every rustle outside the cargo could mean a sudden shift in plans.
Finally, the workers lifted their cargo onto a series of dollies, rolling them deeper into the warehouse. The metallic clank of a lock sliding shut told them they were securely stored within the warehouse, surrounded by other crates. They could only hope Kai had picked up enough intel on the way to help them navigate out when the time came.
All they could do now was wait.
