Nathaniel was speechless.
The pain was intense; he was exhausted; he just needed comfort from her.
Lucinda then broke free from his grip and marched toward the door.
Behind her, Nathaniel mumbled, âI went to the mountains between Gliethien and Forden.
I returned late because I was hunted by a group of people sent by Graham Simmons.
â
Lucinda froze.
Did Graham send people to kill him?
Cyrus had only told her where Nathaniel was and that he couldnât return soon, but he hadnât told her that Graham prevented his return.
She then remembered Nathanielâs reaction after she injected him with the drug.
The wound on his waist must have been caused by people Graham had sent.
After hovering near the door for a minute or so, Lucinda smiled coldly, âWhy are you telling me this now? Do you expect me to pity you?â
Then she opened the door and left.
Conor waited outside.
He noticed her strange expression.
âs BunnyBookery
âMiss Lucinda?â
She came to her senses and spotted the medical kit in his hand.
âGo and treat his wounds.
â
âOf course.
â Conor bowed slightly and watched her leave before entering Nathanielâs room.
Nathaniel was lost in thought.
Lucinda had seemed genuinely surprised to hear about Graham.
She had not known about the attack.
Nathaniel took a deep breath.
He felt relieved.
âHey, Mr.
Roberts,â Conor said impatiently.
âTake off your shirt.
I need to treat your wounds!â
âI can do it myself.
You can leave,â Nathaniel said, taking the medical kit from Conor.
âThe wounds are on your back.
How can you do it yourself?â
Nathaniel replied, âI do not want to be touched by a man.
â
Conor was exasperated.
He imagined Nathaniel would complain to Lucinda that he had refused to treat his wounds.
