Shortly afterward, Joelle exited the police station alongside her lawyer.
âHe destroyed the evidence, but thankfully, heâs agreed to a public apology. That should halt the cyberbullying.â Joelle expressed her gratitude, saying, âThank you for advising me to record everything. Without that, I would have had no defense.â
âYouâre welcome, Ms. Watson. You managed this with clear thinking and kindness, understanding the manâs difficult situation without demanding a large payment.â Joelle shook her head and said, âTo me, money is just a number. But pressing someone too much can turn dangerous, canât it?â
Later, as the situation cooled down, Joelle received a call from her studioâs business manager.
âJoelle, someone wants to buy our most prestigious violin!â This violin was the product of two years of Joelleâs dedicated craftsmanship.
âWho is the buyer?â
âThe customerâs last name is Miller.â
Joelle hurried back to her studio. Upon arrival, she saw the manager assisting Adrian. âJoelle, youâre back!â
Relief was evident in the managerâs voice; the deal was too significant for her to handle on her own. Adrian wasnât just interested in the priciest violin; he was looking to buy all the remaining violins in stock. It seemed almost like a grand gesture.
Joelle gave Adrian a stern look and said to the manager, âPlease, give us a moment.â
Once the manager left, only Joelle and Adrian remained. âAdrian, what exactly are you trying to do?â
âTo purchase violins.â
âWeâre currently not open for sales.â
âBut you do have violins available, right? Iâm willing to buy everything you have, and Iâll pay triple the usual price.â
Joelle was not a fool. If she couldnât see through his intentions now, then all her experiences amounted to nothing. Taking a deep breath, Joelle fixed her gaze on him. âAre you trying to pity me?â
Adrian locked eyes with her, unflinching. âYes, so what? Will you take my help?â
âI wonât.â Joelle didnât even think about it. âYouâre divorced. I donât need your pity or your money. Please leave.â
âDo you really think Iâm doing this for you?â Adrian scoffed. âIf Aurora wasnât living with you, I wouldnât bother giving you a second glance. You might think you can manage on your own, but I wonât let you compromise my daughterâs life.â
âThatâs not your concern!â Joelle stood up abruptly. âThe hardest times with Aurora came about because of your interference. Leave now!â
In the past, Joelle might have lacked the boldness to defy Adrian. But now, just seeing him stirred a surge of anger and resentment.
Adrian wasnât accustomed to such defiance. âJoelle, do you really despise me that much?â
âYes, I do.â
Of course, she hated him. During her most critical moment in labor, bleeding heavily, he was on a flight, accompanying Rebecca for her treatment. The resentment she felt from those times had reached its breaking point. The reality was that Adrian had never truly loved her. Having accepted this truth, she no longer wanted any involvement with him.
Adrian stood up, his attitude like a beast ready to break free, his eyes filled with anger. âYou hate me? Why? Because of the drug you gave me that led to our marriage, leaving you alone at home for three years? Or because I didnât know you ran off with our child, getting remarried while I was desperately looking for you? You took my daughter, married my friend, and even had a son with him. Joelle, I feel like strangling you. Do you understand that?â
Joelle managed a bitter smile. âIn the end, you just canât bear to see me with Rafael, can you? You feel Iâve embarrassed you, right?â
Adrian gave a cold snort. âWhy bother asking if you already know the answer?â
âSo, what do you want from me? Adrian, I owe you nothing.â
Adrianâs expression remained unreadable. âI want custody of Aurora.â
âIn your dreams!â
âFine, then,â Adrian said, pressing his tongue against his cheek. âThen divorce Rafael and marry me again.â
Joelle crossed her arms and said, âAre you trying to rekindle a flame thatâs long since died? Arenât you worried about hurting the one you love?â
âMy true love is my daughter. Sheâd be delighted to see her biological parents together again!â
He grasped Joelleâs chin, but she met his gaze steadily. âIn her eyes, Rafael is her father.â
âThatâs about to change.â Adrianâs lips curled coldly. âIf you refuse to cooperate, Iâll go and tell Aurora myself that Iâm her real father. It might be tough for her, but she deserves to know the truth eventually, doesnât she?â
Joelle looked at him unwillingly. Accepting Adrianâs offer would be an admission that she couldnât support her child alone. In custody battles, financial stability often played a crucial role. Yet, if she declined, what would happen if he actually approached Aurora?
After a few tense seconds, Joelle gave in. âIâll take your order. After all, itâs just money.â She then gestured for the manager to come back and start the paperwork.
âJoelle, are you certain about this? Isnât the price too unreasonable?â The price for each violin had skyrocketed, becoming hugely inflated.
âItâs okay. He can afford it.â
She rationalized the steep cost as a form of child support for Aurora.
