Belleâs hand hung suspended in the air. Joelle was taken aback. She hadnât expected Adrian to show up at that moment. He had grabbed Belleâs wrist, his expression unreadable. âYour son left because he couldnât stand your manipulation. Who else is there to blame for his disappearance?â
Belle, overwhelmed with despair, beat her chest in anguish. âMy son has just left, and now you bring Adrian here! Joelle, you really are a bitch!â
From behind Joelle, Katherine warned, âBelle, watch what you say. Or else, you might drive your son away for good.â
âWhat did you just say?â Enraged, Belle attempted to charge at Katherine.
Bobby interjected smoothly, âThereâs a saying, isnât there? Good actions are rewarded, but bad ones arenât. You encouraged your daughter to seduce her brother. If I were Rafael, Iâd stay away too!â
âYouâ¦â Belle clutched her chest, struggling to breathe.
Liza, seeing her mother in distress, rushed to soothe her. Tears filled her eyes as she looked around the room. âI know you all dislike me and my mom, but please, Iâm begging you, tell us where Rafael is. Weâre really worried about him!â
Joelle kept her expression neutral. âI donât know.â
Liza, eyes brimming with tears, clutched at Joelleâs hand desperately. âJoelle, please! Is Rafael alright? My mom and I are so worried about him!â
âI truly donât know,â Joelle replied, gently removing Lizaâs grip. Unexpectedly, Liza stumbled and fell to the floor.
âHow dare you!â

Slap!
The sharp sound filled the room, yet Joelle felt no pain. When she opened her eyes, she saw Adrian had shielded her from the slap. Joelle stood, stunned. She was baffled as to why Adrian was here, and even more so why he would protect her.
On the floor, Liza clutched her stomach in agony. âMom, the baby⦠Sheâs trying to hurt Rafaelâs baby!â
âLiza!â Belle helped her up, and before they left, she issued a stern warning to Joelle. âYouâre off to the hospital now. Joelle, if anything happens to Rafaelâs baby, I swear youâll regret it!â
As Belle and Liza departed, Gina asked, âJoelle, did you intend to harm her baby? The baby is innocent.â
Joelle glanced at her hands, puzzled, and murmured, âIt was just a slight push. I didnât expect her to fall.â
âForget about it,â Katherine interjected dismissively. âEven if the baby is harmed, itâs on them. They shouldnât even be having this child.â
Gina agreed, then asked, âBut what about Rafael? Joelle, has he reached out to you at all?â
Everyoneâs gaze turned to Joelle, who appeared drained. She shook her head and said, âNo, he hasnât.â
Deep down, she understood her relationship with Rafael was truly over. Yet, emotional ties tended to persist, and she hadnât fully come to terms with their breakup.
Sensing the tense atmosphere, Shawn invited everyone back to the table to continue the meal. Joelle glanced over at Adrian, her tone distant. âPlease have my brother fetch some ointment for your face. Iâm not feeling well enough to host properly tonight.â
Adrian reached for her wrist, but Joelle quickly withdrew it, reacting instinctively. âAdrian, please, respect my space.â
Adrianâs expression tightened slightly. Joelle had once been his wife, and now she recoiled from his touch. What could he say? It was he who had driven her to this point.
âYou look unwell,â he said with concern.
âThatâs none of your business.â
âYouâre concerned about Rafael?â
Joelle met Adrianâs eyes. She felt a flicker of compassion when she saw the red mark where the slap had landed on his face. âHeâs the father of my children. Of course, I worry about him.â
Adrianâs lips pressed into a thin line, and he was quiet for a moment before responding, âIâll help you find him.â Joelle was baffled by his offer. She couldnât grasp his intentions, and frankly, she lacked the energy to probe further.
âThen, Iâll thank you for my childrenâs sake.â With that, she turned and went upstairs.
Shawn walked over to Adrian, giving his shoulder a friendly pat. âLet me get you some ointment.â
âNo, itâs fine. Iâll be leaving soon after I check on her.â
Shawn raised an eyebrow. âYou wouldnât still have feelings for Joelle, would you? Thinking about stepping in now that Rafaelâs not in the picture?â
Adrian gave him a sharp look. âYouâre reading too much into it.â
âThatâs a relief.â Shawn patted him on the shoulder once more. âYou should move on too. Find someone new, and letâs all move forward without any hard feelings.â
Adrian remained silent. He cast a final glance at Joelle as she walked away before he left the house.
Once he had gone, Gina picked up her purse. âShawn, itâs getting late. I think Iâll head home now.â
Shawn brought her aside. âGina, thereâs something Iâve wanted to ask you.â
âOkay. What is it?â
âBefore my mom passed, she had a conversation with you, right?â
âYes. She came to inquire about her husbandâs health.â
âWhat did you tell her?â
Gina replied, âI did my best to reassure her. I knew she was struggling, so I tried not to make her more anxious.â
