I DRIVE LITERALLYÂ two blocks, and weâre already pulling into T-Boys, the little honkytonk-type bar near Ginaâs apartment complex. I use the term complex, loosely. There are maybe ten apartments total. Itâs quaint and quiet. Iâm still unsure of how I feel about her living right behind a damn bar, though.
âThis is it!â Tink unbuckles her seatbelt, opening the door and rushing out before I have the chance to even put the truck into park.
âIâd appreciate it if youâd at least give me the opportunity to be a gentleman,â I admonish when I join her in the gravel lot.
Her hand rests on her hip. âWhat are you talking about?â
âI wouldâve liked to open your door and help you downâ¦hold your hand and escort you into the placeâ¦You know, like a real date.â
âJeffrey, weâre fuckingâ¦exclusively. Weâre not dating.â
I feel my face fall and quickly school my features, hoping she canât see the disappointment.
âDating involves feelings, Jeffrey, and thatâs exactly what weâre trying to avoid, remember? You donât have to work to impress me. Itâs yours,â she winks. âAt least for now. Besides, Iâm not used to boys doing that kind of thing anyway. I donât need it.â
Are the men around here not brought up with respect? I was taught to always treat a woman like a lady. âI need it, Gina,â I say, jabbing my thumb into my chest with each word. âWhen youâre with me, I take care of you.â
Her eyes widen, and she stares back at me in shock and maybe a little annoyance.
âI open the fucking doors.â
âOhâ¦uh. Okay, CEO. If it makes you feel more like a man, Iâll let you open my doors.â She tilts her head to the side, batting her long lashes.
âYou wanna come get this one for me?â Her head tilts toward the wood door beneath the lopsided, hot pink neon sign flashing . âSpence just texted, asking where weâre at.â
Nodding, I take a few steps, closing the space between us and lace my fingers in hers. âWeâre friends, Tink. That doesnât mean I canât treat you like a lady.â
She snorts. âWell, youâre the first to ever accuse me of being that.â
After pulling the door opened, I grab her arm as she starts to walk in. âYouâre my lady, Tink.â
âFor now,â she breathes into my ear before walking past me into the bar.
The entire place, inside and out, is made of cedar. From the walls to the bar to the floor. It gives it a nice, homey feel. Two pool tables sit in the center of the room, and thereâs a small stage in the far corner that looks like it doesnât get much use. There are only a couple other people here. Two over at the pool tables, another fooling with the jukebox. The couple at the bar who are so engrossed with each other that they havenât noticed Gina standing right beside them must be Spencer and Cooper.
âAhem,â Tink clears her throat loudly to capture their attention.
âGina. There you are!â
Tinkâs eyes rove over her bestieâs body. âItâs so nice to see you out of the house and dressed in something other than yoga pants. You look amazing.â
The raven-haired beauty frowns. âYeah, well, I feel like a fat ass.â I remember how self-conscious Jess was after she had Evangeline. It took well over a year for her to feel good about herself again. For having just had twins, I think she looks amazing.
âYouâre beautiful,â her husband says, squeezing her thigh beneath the bar. I turn my head as to not intrude upon their moment. âAnd so fucking sexy,â he adds, nibbling on her ear.
âJosie!â Tink shouts, smacking her hand down on the bar a few times. âI need a cranberry and vodka.â Then she looks up at me. âWhatâre you having, Jeff?â
âIâll have a Bud Light.â
âAnd a Bud Light!â That girl has got a set of pipes on her for sure.
âThanks, Tink.â Itâs a little weird having a girl order for me, but I decide to keep that thought to myself. Doors firstâ¦one step at a time.
âIâm Cooper, Spencerâs husband.â He reaches his hand out. âIâm sure youâve heard a lot about her.â
âJeff,â I answer, shaking his hand. âYeah, from what I gather these two are thick as thieves.â
Coop chokes on his beer. âYa got that right. And just as fucking sneaky.â He turns to look at the girls, who are already deep in conversation. Thereâs a great deal of pride and admiration in his face. âYou gotta watch those two, man. Two for the price of oneâ¦You piss one off, you deal with both. Always remember that.â
âRemember what?â his wife, Spencer asks, sticking her hand out for mine. âIâm Spence, nice to meet you Jeff. Iâve heard things.â Her brows waggle and I know sheâs referring to the size of my dick. This could be the most awkward introduction of my life.
âI was just telling him how you and Gina are a packaged deal,â he answers, smiling lovingly at his wife.
Spencer beams. âDouble the fun.â
âYeahâ¦I was thinking more along the lines of double the trouble.â
âWell, whoâs your good lookinâ friend, Gina?â the bartender asks, leaning over with her forearms resting on the top of the bar, displaying a hefty helping of cleavage.
âBack off, Josie,â Spencer warns. âHeâs with Gina.â
Josie, a pretty little blonde with next to no clothes, cowgirl boots, and a smile as sweet as iced tea, laughs. âPlease. Everybody knows, ainât nobody Ginaâ¦well, not longer than for a night or two anyhow.â
âWell,â I drawl, interrupting their conversation. âI plan to be Tink for as long as sheâll put up with me.â With an arm around her bare shoulders, I pull her close. She surprises me by wrapping an arm around my waist and grabbing a handful of my ass. I never know what to expect with her.
âWell, youâve got a lot,ââher eyes drop to my crotchââworking in your favor, CEO.â
âOooooh, girlâ¦I thought you didnât fall in love?â Josie presses. âLooks like you got it bad.â
âSheâs not ,â Spence answers in a mocking tone. âThe girl done went and got dickstruck.â
Every last drop of blood in my body rushes to my face. âThanks, Gina,â I mutter.
âRemember fart girl?â She purses her lips, narrowing her eyes at me. âPaybackâs a motherfucker. Remember that. I will get mine.â
âWait?â Coop says, holding his hand up. âWhoâs fart girl?â
âDonât you dare,â my little vixen warns, shooting me daggers.
After a few drinks and some small talk, Josie comes up with the incredibly stupid idea of playing the dating game.
âCome on, yâall,â she slurs. âItâs gonna be fun.â
âBut weâre married,â Coop argues. âNot dating.â
âYeah, and weâre just fucking,â I say, motioning between Tink and myself.
âJeez, CEO. You make us sound so cheap,â my tipsy fuckbuddy whines.
I pull her into my lap, nibbling on her ear. âBut, itâs really good. Really high-quality fucking.â
âDamn straight it is.â
âAll right. Deep-V Diver,â Josie says, eyeing me with a grin. âAnd you too, Coop. Go pick a few songs on the jukebox and donât come back âtil I holler for ya.â
Begrudgingly Cooper and I walk to the other end of the bar. âThis is going to be so bad,â he grumbles. âHope youâre prepared to sleep on the sofa.â
âMaybe for you,â I snicker. âYouâre married. You have to know everything. Tink and I are just getting to know each other.â
Thereâs a long silence while we each take a turn filling the jukebox queue.
âBe careful with her, Jeffrey,â Coop warns out of the blue. I get the feeling heâs been waiting to get me alone and has finally decided to take his shot while heâs got it. âLord knows I am not the one to give dating advice. I lost fifteen years with Spence before getting her back, due to my own stupidity.â He shakes his head in disgust. âJust know Ginaâs not as tough as she seems.â
âIâll do my best,â I assure him, impressed by the fact that he stood up for her. Iâm glad she has friends like Cooper and Spencer in her life.
âBoys! Come on back,â Josie shouts, waving at us with both hands in the air.
I start to head back for the bar when I feel a hand clamp my shoulder. âDo better than try, CEO.â
