âHappy Birthday Sis,â My brother Robert smiled, his blue eyes shinning as he laughed at my expression. Running over to him like a little girl, I flung my arms around him as tears began to spill over.
âIâve missed you so much,â I cried as everyone awed and observed us.
âI missed you too. Enjoy your birthday for now and weâll speak about this later.â Robert whispered, slowly releasing me from his muscular arms before giving me a soft push in Trevorâs direction as I fiercely wiped away my tears, glancing over my shoulder to make sure that Robert was actually there.
âShould we get this party started?!â Robert yelled, holding his glass of champagne in the air, receiving cheers in agreement, as the music started blaring through someoneâs speakers.
âDid you persuade him to come?â I asked as Trevorâs hand enveloped mine and we walked towards the kitchen.
âI didnât really need to. I just asked him if he wanted to come to his sisterâs surprise birthday party and he was more than eager to,â Trevor answered
âWell arenât you the best fiancé any girl in the world could ask for,â I stated, pressing my lips to his so that he could not respond. His tongue merged with mine and I relished every moment of it as I felt him moan, pulling me even closer to his forever warm body.
âAlright, alright. Iâd like to give the birthday girl her birthday present now, so if you guys wouldnât mind,â I heard Debby groan in the background. Laughing, I pushed Trevor away, smiling when I saw him glaring at her, pulling me closer.
âJealous are we?â Trevor mocked
âNope,â Debby replied, rolling her eyes. Handing me a cute hot pink gift bag, I pulled out a simple black box, wondering what it was with boxes today and opened it. Inside was a silver charm bracelet with one charm, which was a cupcake with a candle on it. It reminded me awfully of the charm bracelet Stephen had brought me for my 19th birthday, which Jasmine returned to him after we broke up.
âIt looks cute but I donât think that it beats my present,â Trevor commented showing her the necklace that he brought me, causing his hand to move terribly close to my chest. If I was paying enough attention, I would have scowled at him but I was too busy trying to check if the bracelet in my hand was the one that Stephen had given me years ago.
âI think she likes my present since she hasnât stopped staring at it. Sorry Trevor. Stephen helped me pick it out; he told me that you guys used to be close friends in College. Why didnât you tell me Mel?â Debby quizzed. At the mention of Stephenâs name my eyes immediately snapped up to meet Debby questioning ones.
âI didnât really think there was any need to,â I quickly responded, trying to keep cool. I guess they were still seeing each other then, but what did I expect? I should be happy for him, heâs moved onâ¦again.
âClose friends my ass,â I heard Trevor mumble.
âCould you guys leave me with Melanie for a second please,â Robert stated from the kitchen doorframe as he watched us.
âYes we can,â Debby replied, watching my brother, who nodded in her direction as she dragged an annoyed Trevor out with her.
âSo, what have you gotten so far?â Robert questioned, leaning against my cupboards, pressing his dark brown hair against them as his intimating blue eyes focused on me.
âWell Trevor got me this necklace and ---,â I started
âDonât tell me the dick finally did it,â Robert interrupted, nudging his head towards my hand.
âYou sound like one of my friends from work,â I laughed, remembering when Martin had said that, when he first saw my ring.
âAnd yes, he finally did do it,â I smiled until my eyes landed on my hand which held the charm bracelet.
âAnd Debby, one of Trevorâs co-workerâs and her boyfriend Stephen got me this bracelet,â I mumbled, the word boyfriend slipping out of my mouth.
âIt looks familiar and I hope her boyfriend isnât the one that you used to date,â Robert joked, smiling as he moved closer before snatching the bracelet. I already knew what would happen and braced myself for his anger.
âHe is the same guy isnât he? This looks like the exact same bracelet that you would not stop shoving in my face at your 19th birthday. What a fucking small world,â He cursed
âHave you seen him since heâs been going out with that model?â Robert asked
âYeah, he dropped by at work,â I muttered, not facing him.
âI hope your not fucking with me Melanie. What do you think youâre doing?! He was the one who split us up, or have you forgotten that we werenât talking for two years because of him?!â Robert growled
âObviously I havenât forgotten, but maybe if you had just comforted me like I wanted you to do, then our relationship as brother and sister would have been fine! All he did was try to speak to me, leaving out the fact that he tried to kiss me.â I replied
âYou almost what?!â Robert screamed. Luckily due to the loud music, no one ran in wondering what happening, except for Jennifer and Jasmine that is.
âShe almost what?â Jasmine asked
âI bet she almost ran away with Trevor to get married in Vegas. I knew sheâd do that,â Jennifer joked, laughing with Jasmine.
âShe almost kissed Stephen.â Robert hissed, rubbing his temples as his 6â2 height towered over me dangerously.
âWhen was this?â Jennifer asked, looking confused.
âJasmine, remember when we went out to celebrate my engagement and you found me cryingâ¦.â I wondered off, knowing that she would put the pieces together.
âI canât remember that far backâ¦.actually. He tried to kiss you then? You should have told me, I would have called someone to beat his fucking ass!â Jasmine exclaimed
âHow close were you two? Were you guys literally just about to kiss, or did you brush lips? What?â Jennifer quizzed.
âHe just kissed my neck,â I confessed stupidly
âDamn it Melanie. Could you be even more stupid?!â Robert yelled, his eyes now narrowing at me, his stupid younger sister.
âI didnât kiss the fricking guy so obviously Iâm not stupid Robert. Can you guys just stop breathing down my neck? He already said that heâll leave me alone three weeks ago. So letâs forget about it,â I pleaded getting frustrated. It was my birthday and here they were shouting at me. What a nice flipping reunion.
âNo. Iâm not gonna forget about it,â Robert roared.
âFine then, Iâm leaving.â I retorted
âYou can not leave your own birthday party,â Jennifer scoffed
âYes I can and if anyone asks why, tell that that it was Robertâs fault.â I replied
âYouâre being childish.â Robert shouted after me but I ignored him. Dodging everyone with my eyes glaring at the floor, I easily slipped out of the house and stormed out of the apartment building.
As if forgetting what had happened last night, I continued walking down the empty road, feeling my body begin to shake in the coldness. Darn this winter weather! Cursing underneath my breath I noticed a couple kissing slightly bent over in front of me. Cute, I thought bitterly even though I and Trevor had been full on making out only twenty minutes ago. Continuing to speed walk towards them, something seemed wrong. The girl looked limp in the manâs arms whilst he appeared to be kissing her neck, or sucking on it.
âHey, what are you doing?!â I called hoping to scare the man off, only for it to have an opposite effect. The man instantly moved his lips away from the body in his arms and red eyes were now piercing into mine making me freeze. Other than the red eyes, the man resembled Stephen.
Stephen. He looked exactly like him except for the fangs, blood and eyes which made me question myself. Wait did I just say fangsâ¦with blood dripping all over them?!
âIs this some sort of Halloween prank?â I whispered not believing anything I saw.
âNo Halloween prank my beauty, but you do smell delicious, maybe you can be my treat,â Stephen purred, his voice sounding so detached, deep and dangerous, like nothing I had heard from his lips before.
âStephen if thatâs you, you better cut it out,â I stated strongly, trying to foreign my fright.
âI have no clue who you are but I hope you blood tastes as sweet as your voice sounds,â Stephen smiled evilly, suddenly appearing right in front of me, making me gasp in horror. He had been at least twenty feet in front of me a second ago! This man is definitely not my old Stephen, right now I had no clue who or what he was.
âYou surely do smell sweeter than anything that Iâve ever smelt,â Stephen added, sniffing my neck as I stood as still as a statue too scared to move. Why the hell did I leave my own party again?!
âIâm not going to kill you darling, so calm down; Iâm just going to take a sampleâ¦â Stephen informed me before I felt my skin breaking and an ear splitting scream that didnât even sound like my own voice. I had always known that he had sharp teeth, but I didnât know that it was this sharp, skin penetratingly sharp! The pain soon turned into ecstasy, one that I had never experienced in my life and before I knew it I was moaning and gripping onto his clothes so that the feeling didnât fade away. Faintly remembering Trevor, I opened my lips to speak and bean feeling light headed.
âStephenâ¦â I managed to whisper as my eyes began to feel heavy
âTrevorâ¦â my lips mumbled and I felt Stephenâs teeth abruptly leaving my throat causing the amazing sensation to come to an end.
âMelanie?...Melanie! Shit, stay with me! Keep your eyes open,â Stephen screamed but with a faint smile, I drifted into darkness.
