Chapter 23: 𝗧𝗪𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗬 𝗢𝗡𝗘

DAYLIGHT, billie eilishWords: 2631

TWO DAYS HAD PASSED SINCE THE KISS, and valerie was starting to feel the weight of it in a way she hadn't expected. there was a small, constant worry gnawing at her, a nagging thought that maybe billie regretted it or maybe didn't even see it as anything significant. still, valerie kept it to herself, unwilling to be the one to bring it up first, unsure if billie felt the same way or if she'd just brush it off as nothing.

she hadn't told anyone about it except olivia, who'd immediately prodded her with a thousand questions. even olivia, though, couldn't offer any concrete advice on what to do next.

that evening, as valerie laid sprawled on her bed, her phone buzzed with an incoming facetime from billie. her heart did a little flip-something it had been doing more and more lately-and she took a steadying breath before accepting the call.

"hey, vei," billie greeted, smiling softly, using that nickname that never failed to make valerie's pulse quicken.

"hey, b," valerie replied, settling into a casual tone and trying to keep any trace of her nerves out of her voice.

they fell into their usual rhythm, talking about music, random jokes, and plans for the weekend, both of them acting as though everything was perfectly normal. it felt almost surreal to her, the way they could just go on like they hadn't just kissed two days ago. every time billie laughed, or her eyes softened, valerie felt a flutter of something, wondering if maybe billie was thinking about it, too-or if it had just been one impulsive moment for her, nothing more.

halfway through their call, valerie's phone vibrated again, and she glanced at her notifications to see a new message from olivia.

she returned her attention to billie, laughing along with her, letting the conversation flow even as her thoughts kept tugging back to that one moment two nights ago.

eventually, after what felt like hours of talking, they said their goodnights, both of them smiling softly as they ended the call. valerie set her phone down, exhaling slowly, still unsure of where they stood. but something about the way billie always looked at her, the little glances and smiles, gave her a faint spark of hope that maybe-just maybe-this wasn't the end of the story.
