Olive Steeleâs parents looked at each other and found compliments in both eyes. As for their views, a wealthy man like Alan Hoyle could be peremptory, but he was able to take the household duties from their daughter willingly and the food he cooked did is delicious, which meant that he was a good husband.
Money was not the only issue for marriage.
Alan was enthusiastic as if he was at his own home, âBon appetit, everyone!â
Chloe Malan mumbled, âAss kisser.â
While Oliveâs parents did assume Alan was playing up to them at all. For his status and power, there was no need for him to do such things. He loved their daughter which made these things natural.
âYou cook a lot, Alan?â The sense of distance was broken a lot when Oliveâs father called him Alan.
He smiled to reply, âKind of. I usually cooked when I was tired of work. Itâs both an exercise and enjoyment for me.â
âSo, you mean Olive wonât be stuck in the kitchen after the marriage?â Chloe narrowed her eyes slightly.
Almost every ordinary girl married into the rich and powerful family was required to be a housewife, which was a hidden rule.
Back then, she was asked to stay at home to be a housewife as well. That made her useless after the divorce. Without the encouragement and help of her friends, Chloe might never survive that hardship.
She did not want Olive to go through this, too.
âJust eat your food.â Olive kicked her slightly under the table.
âOh, you little...â Chloe rubbed her forehead, âIâm trying to help!â
âShe can always cook if she wants to, but thatâs never a womanâs responsibility. âAlan was still smiling, âAnd itâs never a taboo for a woman to work hard, too. I mean, Oliveâs doing fine in Angel, though I donât want her to be tired.â
Even Chloe now could not find something in his theory to attack him.
The dinner went much better than lunch.
Annie was looking at the zoo in her plate, hesitating.
âWhatâs up, sweetheart?â Alan asked her.
âAh, itâs all your fault,â Annie dropped her chopsticks on the table, âThey are all too beautiful to be eaten!â
Putting the chopstick back to her hands, Alan could not help laughing, âItâs okay. Daddy can always cook for you if you like.â
âFor real?â Annie raised her little head to Alan with twinkling eyes.
âWell, of course, sweetheart.â
âAnytime?â
âYes, I promise.â
âHooray!â The little girl was going to eat but then stopped again, âThen tomorrow, I want you to cook for me so that I can take them to kindergarten!â
âYou got it.â Alan looked at her, smiling.
Seeing this, Olive was pleased.
After the dinner, Annie took out a goban and gave an order to Alan like a little princess, âYou, play with me.â
âGo, huh?â Alan looked at her interestingly.
It looked like keeping his daughter here was the right thing to do. For a smart and lively girl like Annie, life in the Hoyle family could be a restraint to her character and talent.
While he was playing, his assistant called in.
Olive who was watching knew he was going to deal something, âWhatâs up?â
Putting the phone back, Alan said: âNothing urgent, it can wait for the game to be finished.â
At last, the father and daughter had a drawn game under Alanâs manipulation.
âNo, it doesnât count! You didnât use your full strength! Letâs do it again!â Annie exposed his thought right away.
Alan smiled, âAlright, but weâre gonna have to do it on another day. Oh, Iâll take your lunch here tomorrow, okay?â
âIâll be waiting!â Annie stared at him with big eyes.
Patting on the little head of hers, Alan said his goodbye to Oliveâs parents.
âOlive, walk with Alan.â Her parent spoke.
While Chloe twitched her mouth, âHe isnât a three-year-old child, is he? Just kick him out of the door.â
âOh, wait till you get a boyfriend.â Olive punched her slightly.
Speaking of that, Olive could not help but wonder when Chloeâs destiny would come. By the time she found the one, all her family's lives would be perfect.
