Chapter 39 Donât Blame Yourself
âDerrick, calm down!â Ervin pulled him back in a hurry. âIt was an accident, and none of us expected
this to happen.â
The other hand overlapped and took Derrickâs hand, pulling it.
It was Edmond.
He grimaced, shielding Claudia behind himself, frowning, his handsome face grim. âWaldronâs crash
had nothing to do with her. She wasnât in the car.â
Derrick grunted, gave Claudia a cold stare, and walked quickly to the
door of the resuscitation room.
Ervin glanced helplessly at Edmond. âSorry, Derrick has a bad temper.â
Edmond nodded faintly and glanced back at Claudia.
Her eyes were red from crying.
She used to have Rosalie to hate when her grandmother died, but now that something happened to
Waldron, she could only blame herself.
âDonât cry.â Edmondâs voice softened.
It was obvious that she was crying for another man, but he didnât know why, he couldnât bear to see her
sad.
âI donât want to cry eitherâ¦â Claudia wiped a tear from her eyes. She couldnât control her tears for
some reason.
Edmond sighed, his hand just lifting.
Claudia subconsciously ducked away, staring intently at the resuscitation room in order to ease her
embarrassment.
Edmond pursed his lips.
He didnât know how long it took, and Waldron was finally pushed out of the resuscitation room.
The doctor/took off his mask and said to Ervin outside the door, âThe patient is still in a coma and is not
out of danger. His situation may get better or worse, so you have to be men tally prepared.â
Ervinâs face was full of worry, slightly tired under his gold-rimmed glasses. âThank you, doctor.â
Edmond walked over and told them what he had found out, âThe big truck used a fake license plate
and ran off after hitting him.â
Derrickâs face grimaced, and Ervinâs face also became cold.
âThanks.â Ervin gave him a deep look.
Some people had special connections and were able to check out the inner details firsthand, and
Edmond was one such person.
Rumor had it that Edmond became a different person after Tristenâs death.
From cynical son to the head of the Lamont family, Edmond had turned around the Lamont familyâs
tumultuous situation with his own strength. Just from the fact that he had gotten the news in the first
place, it could show how powerful he was.
Edmond sneered, âYouâre welcome, but shouldnât your brother have a say in blaming someone else for
what happened to Waldron?â
Ervin raised an eyebrow.
Was this for Claudia?
It looked like Edmond still had feelings for Claudia.
Ervin walked over to Claudia, looked at Claudiaâs crying and swollen eyes, and said softly, âMy brother
was worried about Waldron, and thatâs why he was so mean to you. What happened to Waldron was
an accident that had nothing to do with you, so you donât have to blame yourself.â.
Claudia gave a soft âhmmâ, but her expression wasnât exactly relaxed.
She was still sad and worried.
Edmond dropped his eyes as he watched her frown.
âMs. Lloyd, can I ask you a question?â
Claudia looked at Ervin and nodded slowly. âOf course.â
Ervin heard her voice h oa rse and could tell she was really worried about Waldron.
Regardless of what happened before, at the moment, her worry for Waldron was genuine.
Ervinâs voice was gentle. âDid Waldron say why he was picking you up?â
Claudia froze slightly, frowning at the memory.
Waldron seemed to say why. She was not sureâ¦
She took her time to remember, and Ervin waited patiently.
âI think she said he wanted to tell me something, that there was something he couldnât say over the
phone, and that he wanted to talk to
me in person.â Claudiaâs words made Ervin confirm the answer in his mind.
If Waldron really said something like that, it meant Claudia really was their sister.
Waldron called them to tell them the good news and got ready to pick up Claudia, supposedly with the
intention of bringing Claudia home.
Waldron had long suspected that Claudia was their sister, and with Waldronâs character, he would most
likely take something to test it and tell them only when he was sure.
Although Ervin couldnât see the results of the test now, he had basically guessed the results.
âMs. Lloyd, donât worry. Waldron is blessed with a great life and will be fine.â Not knowing how to
comfort her, Ervin could only say this.
Derrick glanced coldly at them and turned to Ervin. âWaldron isnât out of danger yet, and youâre quite
the comforter.â
Claudia lowered her head.
Derrick couldnât say anything else when he saw her like that instead.
âLetâs go.â Claudia opened her lips, her voice light and drifting as she looked at Edmond and said,
âFinish what needs to be done.â
They had to get a divorce today.
Edmond glanced at Waldron, trying to talk her down, but eventually pursed his lips.
After a life-and-death experience, she should be more determined to divorce and be with Waldron.
Edmondâs heart grew softer at the thought of her bringing him out of the fire.
She was such a person who would look out for others.
The professional term for this was a pleaser personality. She was the kind of person who would bend
over backward for the sake of others.
âSheâd been married to me for a couple of years and had suffered a lot,â Edmond guessed.
Now he was finally letting go.
âLetâs go.â Edmond turned and walked forward at a brisk pace,
He was afraid that if he waited any longer, he wouldnât be able to let
go.
In front of the hospital, Rosalie had just hung up the phone, and her face was pale.
Seeing Claudia and Edmond, Rosalie subconsciously asked, âWhere are you going?â
Claudia snorted, âGo where you want us to go.
Rosalie didnât say anything. She should have been happy that they were divorced, but just now she got
a call from the guy looking for her for 800 thousand dollars urgently.
How could she get 800 thousand dollars to give him at the moment?
Rosalie thought of Elva.
âThen you guys go ahead. I have things to do, and Iâll be back later to celebrate for you guys.â Rosalie
walked quickly to the side, pulling away from them.
Claudia felt Rosalie looked a bit suspicious.
Claudia, however, didnât care to keep probing, cager to do something to cover up her inner anxiety.
A divorce that would bring at least some pain to her numb heart.
Watching Claudia and Edmond leave, Rosalie rushed to dial Elvaâs number.
âHey, Elva, Iâve done what you said, but Iâm in desperate need of oneâ¦â
Before she could finish her sentence, she was interrupted by Elva angrily, âWhat did you do? How dare
you find someone to kill my third brother! Rosalie, do you have any brains?â
The thought of Waldron still out of danger made Elva want to slap Rosalie on the spot.
âThatâs my third brother. How could you get someone to hit him with a car? Thatâs my third brother, not
a cat or a dog!â
Elva anxiously kicked the chair next to her and sat down on the couch.
Rosalie didnât say anything. Elvaâs anger slowly subsided.
âNever mind. Whatâs done is done. Has it been taken care of yet?â
âIâm doing it now. He wants 800 thousand dollars. I donât have that much money.â
Elva was furious. âWouldnât you have set the price in advance before you had a deal with him? Isnât it
obvious that youâre letting people blackmail you?
âYou stu pid pig!â Elva took a deep breath. âForget it. As long as he wonât say anything about this, he
can get whatever he wants. Never let
anyone in my family know that I asked you to do it.â
Elva gritted her teeth. âOr I wonât be able to stay here.â
Elva finished speaking and suddenly felt a line of sight behind her staring at her back.
She turned around and saw a familiar face.
âSplat,â the cell phone fell to the floor.
âMom⦠When did you get here?â
