Chapter 41 Donât You Feel Guilty?
âHow did you get involved with Waldron?â The manâs words were thick with dissatisfaction, âWhen your
grandmother passed away, I thought you would let us take action. But why is it that when you contact
me, itâs to investigate another manâ¦â
Claudia didnât say a word, patiently waiting for him to finish his complaints.
After/complaining, the man immediately realized that he had become overly agitated.
Whatever she did, it was not his place to give directions.
The man guiltily said, âIâm sorry, I was too excited. Iâll check it right away.â
âUm, letâs find out who was behind this.â
She clearly heard what Edmond and Ervin said, Waldronâs incident was no accident.
She could handle her grandmotherâs affairs on her own, without the need for Enigmaâs intervention.
However, the matter of Waldron, with its complex and tangled reasons behind, forced her to utilize the
connections of Enigma.
After hanging up the phone, Claudia headed toward the hospital. Just as she reached the entrance, a
voice stopped her.
It was Elva.
Upon seeing Claudia, Elva was both angry and jealous.
Rosalie had received the test results and showed them to her.
Astonishingly, this Claudia was indeed the Seraphina who had gone missing from the Friedan family.
She greedily stared at Claudiaâs face, wishing she could be her.
âMs. Friedan,â Claudia called out to her, her voice cold and detached.
The last time she fell into the water left her with no good feelings toward Elva. She couldnât understand
why Elva would invade her privacy and set her up.
Seeing her indifferent attitude toward herself, Elva didnât get annoyed. As she walked, she sized up
Claudia.
âI heard that my brother was hit by a car on his way to pick you up?â
Claudia stood still, her gaze icy.
Elvaâs icy words were like sharp spi kes, piercing straight into oneâs heart: âIf it werenât for you, Waldron
wouldnât have been in trouble. Donât you feel guilty?â
Her words were like pearls, each one sharp as a knife.
However, Claudia was not buying her story.
âMy guilt was toward Waldron, what does it have to do with you?â
Her languid voice was like a kitten scratching at your heart.
Elvaâs face looked extremely unpleasant.
âMs. Friedan, I donât know what grudge you hold against me, but I have a bad temper, so itâs best not to
provoke me.â She turned and walked toward the elevator, and Elva followed her.
Claudia pretended not to see her, and as she stepped out of the elevator, Elva deliberately bumped into
her.
âSorry, but who asked you to block the way?â
Elva strutted out with an air of arrogance, and Claudia sneered, asking, âElva, what path of yours have
I exactly blocked?â
âSnooping on my privacy, always on guard when I interact with the Friedan family, what exactly are you
afraid of?â
She was no fool, she could see right through everything Elva did, both overtly and covertly.
Elva turned her head away in panic.
What a joke, I, Elva, have never been afraid of anyone.â Elva lifted her chin, giving her a sidelong
glance, âI just canât stand you, so what if I bully you? Why donât you fight back?â
Elva was closing in, step by step. The thought that Claudia had
become the last of her line filled her mind with schemes of tormenting
her.
What could a person without family backing do, even if they were bullied?
As long as she was there, she would ensure that Seraphina could never return home.
She smugly reached out to pinch Claudiaâs face, but Claudia firmly grasped her fingers instead.
A wave of intense pain spread from her fingers throughout her entire body. Elva looked at Claudia in
surprise, not understanding how such a delicate girl could possess such strength.
Chapter 41 Dont
âLet go!â She tried to pull away, but Claudia held her fingers in a strange grip that immobilized her.
Pain radiated in waves from his fingers.
Tears welled up in Elvaâs eyes from the pain, and she couldnât pry it open with her other hand either.
The elevator went up and down, people came and went, all of them witnessed this scene.
Elvaâs face had turned completely red.
Elva couldnât help but reach out to pull her hair, but Claudia quickly intercepted her with her other hand,
pushing her harshly to the side. Elva fell to the ground.
âWhat are you doing?â A furious shout rang out as Derrick rushed out from the corridor, quickly helping
Elva up.
He looked at Claudia, anger clear in his eyes: âI didnât expect you to be so malicious.â
Had he not seen it with his own eyes, he would have never known that Claudia had such a side to her.
Indifference and ferocity were displayed to the fullest on her.
âIâm not as malicious as she is.â If it hadnât been for Elvaâs attack, she wouldnât have bothered to
retaliate. She sneered coldly and started to walk toward the corridor, but Derrick quickly blocked her
way.
âDonât go in!â
Claudia stood still.
âDonât think that just because youâre close with Waldron, you can do
whatever you want. I let the incident at the pool slide last time, but just now, I saw you bullying my
sister with my own eyes. How do you explain that?â
âMs. Lloyd, I demand an apology!â
Derrick reached out and stopped her at the door, making it clear that he didnât want her to go in.
Elva squeezed out a few tears, standing next to Derrick, she
whimpered in complaint, âBrother, my hand hurts so much, it feels like itâs broken.â
She lifted her wrist and waved it, with a few fingers hanging loosely, as if she had really broken a bone.
Claudia sneered, thinking it was such a waste that this Elva didnât go for an Oscar.
âMr. Derrick, I donât have time to argue with you right now. You can ask
your sister for the details. An apology is out of the question, I was merely defending myself.â She tried
to sidestep Derrick to check on Waldron, but Derrick simply blocked her way with his body.
âMs. Lloyd, my brother is in a coma because of you. My father has instructed that only family members
can visit him. Please stop what youâre doing now.â
Family, she was naturally not part of Waldronâs family.
Claudia stood still, nodding slightly, âAlright, then I wonât go in.â
Seeing her being so agreeable, Derrick frowned and said to Elva, âLetâs go.â
Watching Elva and Derrick leave, she stood for a while before heading downstairs.
Derrick had just said that Waldron was still unconscious.
Guilty, how could I not feel guilty.
Waldron, he was her friend!
Slowly, I walked downstairs to my grandmotherâs sickroom. Just as I was about to push the door open,
I heard laughter and cheerful chatter from inside.
âCicely, did you like the meal I made? If you did, Iâll make it for you again.â It was Rosalieâs voice.
âI like everything you do, but I like it even more when you call me mom,â Cicelyâs voice was filled with
joy.
Upon hearing this, Claudia knew that her mother-in-lawâs memory had
not yet returned.
Pushing open the door, Rosalie was feeding her grandmother.
Upon seeing her, Cicelyâs expression was no longer as resistant as before. Rosalieâs eyes flickered a
few times, she put the bowl aside, and said to Cicely, âI have something to discuss with Ms. Lloyd,
Cicely, wait for me.â
She quickly walked over and slowly closed the door behind her.
âAre you divorced?â Rosalie asked expectantly.
The corners of Claudiaâs lips curled up as she said softly, âMs. Clayton, have you ever heard of a
cooling-off period after divorce? Unfortunately, you still have to wait another month.â
âItâs okay.â Rosalie laughed, âIâve waited for so long, waiting another month wonât make a difference.â
âJust in this past month, I was able to thoroughly prepare for my wedding. I even wanted to invite Ms.
Lloyd to be my officiant!â
