Chapter 7 Is Ms. Lloyd a Mistress?
âWaldron is my friend,â Claudia said
âFriend?â Edmond frowned with a chilly expression on his face. âI never thought youâd be friends with
someone like Waldron.â
Waldronâs reputation as a pla yboy was widely known. Had he not been part of the Friedan family, he
wouldnât have anyone willing to associate with him.
âWhatâs wrong with him?â Claudiaâs eyes flickered with disdain and sarcasm. âAnd how much better are
you, Mr. Lamont?â
Waldron might be unreliable, but he was at least on her side. Edmond, on the other hand, consistently
opposed her decisions and asked her to quit.
The more she compared them, the more she leaned towards Waldron. Favoritism seeped into her
words. âPlease, Mr. Lamont, do not be so mean to my friend.â
Edmondâs eyes darkened, a spark of anger igniting. âDo you even know what youâre saying?â
When he recalled Waldronâs cavalier attitude towards women, his face turned cold. âWaldron is a pla
yboy. You canât change that.â
âWhat does that have to do with me?â
Claudia replied with a righteous smile.
With her husbandâs lack of support, why would Claudia refuse the only ally she had?

Edmondâs demeanor grew even colder. It was as if an icy barrier forming around him, sending a chill
into the air.
âDo you have such strong feelings for Waldron?â
Edmond knew he shouldnât show his anger.
A regular guy would have been fine for her, but Waldron? His reputation was well known. Waldron just
had too many girlfriends.
With Claudiaâs temperament, he doubted if she could last a year after she married Waldron.
âYou seem to think the Friedan family is like the Lamont family, and that Waldron can genuinely protect
you. Claudia, youâre young. Donât bury your future.â
Claudiaâs heart quivered, as she looked up with a gentle smile. âHow else should I bury it? My marriage
has been buried by you, hasnât it?â
Edmond fixed his gaze on her, his voice softening.
After a few seconds, he spoke again. His tone was much softer.
âAfter the divorce, you can keep the villa.â
Claudia was momentarily taken aback.
âYouâve lived in it for a few years. Even if we divorce, we can still be friendsâ¦â
âNo need.â Claudia clutched her coffee spoon and stirred her coffee absentmindedly. âLetâs not stay in
touch after the divorce. I donât need the house.â
Edmond felt something stuck in his throat, his eyes darkening.
dates!
Claudia drafted the agreement. She wanted a clean break. She didnât ask for any money
âEdmond!â
Rosalie had arrived at some point, her voice not overly loud but sufficient to disrupt the tense
atmosphere.
âA woman who betrays her husband doesnât deserve the house. It is supposed to be a clean break.â
Rosalieâs words cut through the air. sharp and direct.
The thought of Edmond secretly keeping the villa for Claudia fueled her anger
Why should Claudia, the one who cheated on her husband, get the Lamont familyâs assets?
Rosalieâs arrival surprised Claudia. The accusation of cheating in her marriage stung. Claudiaâs face
darkened.
Since when had she cheated on her husband?
Claudia recalled the question Edmond had asked when she asked for a divorce about whether she had
feelings for someone else. Claudia said
yes.
She hadnât realized Edmond had shared such intimate details with Rosalie or taken them to heart.
Edmond must have loved Rosalie so much to share these things.
âIndeed, Edmond has a reputation for infidelity.â Claudia chuckled, watching Rosalieâs expression
change fast.
There was no evidence of Claudiaâs infidelity, whereas Edmondâs history of cheating was known
throughout town.

âIâm curious, Rosalie, why are you willing to be his mistress for so many years?â
Rosalieâs face was distorted with anger.
Claudia laughed. She knew she couldnât do much to Rosalie at the moment, but at least Claudia could
pi ss her off.
By now, a crowd had gathered, some with cameras in hand, evidently those from the media.
Claudia knew they were with Rosalie.
Rosalie lifted her chin with a confident, arrogant demeanor. âMs. Lloyd, I was already with Edmond
when he married you. Youâre the bump in our relationship. Youâre the mistress.â
The reporters finally swooped in at Rosalieâs cue, firing questions at Claudia.
âMs. Lloyd, is it true that youâre the mistress?â
âHave you divorced Mr. Lamont?â
âMs. Lloydâ¦â
The barrage of questions overwhelmed Claudia. The crowd was so dense Claudia could hardly stand.
Suddenly, a hand stopped the microphones.
It was Edmond.
âMr. Lamont!â The reporters were somewhat flustered.
Edmondâs figure was slender, his visage exquisitely attractive. In daylight, his gaze was piercingly cold.

Reports were misled by Rosalie to fire questions at Claudia. They shouldnât have left Edmond, such a
gorgeous man, in the cold.
He commanded attention, radiating an air of brilliance that dispelled the embarrassment hanging in the
air.
âMr. Lamont, is Ms. Lloyd a mistress?â a reporter asked.
The crowd hushed, awaiting him.
All eyes were fixed on Edmond. Their anticipation was palpable.
Claudia shared in the collective suspense.
She knew that if Edmond confirmed her as a mistress, sheâd bear that label forever. If he denied it,
Rosalie would take the blame.
Despite her intuition, she yearned for Edmondâs defense in front of the assembled crowd.
Edmond stood resolute like a sturdy pine. His gaze met hers, his eyes brimming with emotions she
struggled to discern.
The gaze, icy and distant, sent her heart plummeting.
âIs there a need to ask such a question? Youâre well aware of how long Edmond and I have known
each other, arenât you?â Rosalieâs smile was innocent.
Her tone carried a flirtatious intimacy that drew her closer to the reporters.
Realization dawned among the journalists.
Indeed, who was Claudia before the revelation of this concealed
marriage? Edmond and Rosalie, who had years of history, remained a couple in the eyes of many.

How could Rosalie be a mistress? Given the timeline, Claudia, who seemed to come out of nowhere, fit
the mistress role,
The reportersâ gazes shifted as they looked at Claudia,
âMs. Lloyd, you are a respectable person. Why did you choose to be a mistress?â
âI heard her family is impoverished. She married Mr. Lamont for money.â
âShameâ¦â
Accusations flew like sharpened knives, yet Claudia smiled down at the irony and misplaced
expectations.
âI proposed to Claudia.â
At last, Edmond broke the silence, his voice steady and clear. It was like a torrent that washed away
the embarrassment.
Claudia felt she almost cried.
It wasnât that she didnât care about her reputation. She cared deeply. She just wanted to hear him say it
unequivocally, to confirm that she wasnât a mistress.
A slight smile curved Claudiaâs lips.
The man finally stood up for her.
Edmond continued, âOur marriage was a deal.â
Married by arrangement without sentiment and romance.
Edmond claimed all the responsibilities by saying that.
The reporters had no choice but to shift focus to Claudia.
