Naomi found herself in the hospital when she woke up.
As soon as she opened her eyes, she heard someone asking in a low voice.
âDo you want some water?â
It was Emma.
Naomi shook her head, âIâm not thirsty now.â
Emma covered her with a blanket, âFeel free to tell me when you are thirsty later.â
âHowâs the company?â asked Naomi. She was quite perturbed about the incident. It really frustrated her as it was the second time she had failed.
If she were to know earlier that the Olsen Group would become her nemesis, she would have left Greene City a long time ago. There was no need for her to hold everything in!
âItâs fine. Donât worry!â
Emma didnât tell her the harsh truth.
Nonetheless, Naomi could guess that the companyâs current condition at present was certainly not good.
She tried to get up as she said, âIâll go back and have a look.â
âDonât move!â
Emma hurriedly pressed her down, âYour leg is injured. Fortunately, someone helped you to block the attack. Otherwise, you wouldâve been in worse shape. The doctor said that you must rest for at least three months.â
Naomi took notice of that âsomeoneâ in Emmaâs words.
âWho helped me?â
Naomi hadnât seen anything at all back then. It wasnât until Emma mentioned the matter that she started to recall something.
Emma shook her head, âUh, it was just a stranger.â
Naomi frowned, âEmma, youâve never lied to me. Why are you doing this now?â
After that, she looked around the ward, only to find that Nelson, who was originally with them, was not present.
âNelson?â
She came to her senses, asking, âSo, it was him, right? How is he now?â
Emma sighed and said, âHe is, um, okay. Donât worry about him.â
âIâll go and see him.â
âYouâd better not go! He told me not to let you know. He said that he didnât want to trouble you.â
Naomi knitted her brows, replying, âIâm just taking a look. Itâs not a big deal.â
Emma was at a loss for words.
âThen Iâll help you! Careful with your leg!â
â¦
Concurrently, with Culverâs astute handling of the situation, the Olsen Groupâs condition was becoming stable.
Culver had stayed up the whole night, therefore he was rubbing his eyes out of tiredness.
The phone on the table rang, and he picked it up in a daze.
âMr. Olsen, regarding the task that you asked me, Iâve just finished teaching Ms. Georgeâs company a lesson. They are screwed now. Not only has their company been emptied, but some people were even injured.â
Culver was staggered, âWhat did you say? Who told you to do that? Whereâs Aaron?â
Soon, the phone was hung up.
Culver immediately stood up and walked to the doorway.
âAaron!â
Outside his office, the employees were so exhausted that they had fallen asleep with their heads on the desks. The main reason was that it was already late in the night when they had finished their work in tackling the companyâs crisis. Hence, they rested in the company instead of going back. Culverâs shout awoke most of them.
Moreover, it made them shudder.
Aaron rushed over and asked, âSir, whatâs the matter?â
âWhat did you do to Naomiâs company?â
Taken aback, Aaron said, âHuh? You told me to do what I have to do when I asked you about it yesterday. So, I followed the standard procedure and asked the lawyer to send them a demand letter, requiring them to appease public pressure.â
âThen, what about the rumors?â
âWhat rumors?â Aaron was bewildered. Thus, he took the newspaper and read it at once to understand what happened.
Subsequently, it left him totally flabbergasted.
âI really have no idea about this. Our company has been in a state of utter chaos since yesterday. Even if I wanted to harm them, I wouldnât have had the time to do it!â
Culver glanced at him and said, âGive me the car keys.â
Aaron was anxious, âWhere are you going? You didnât sleep last night, so you shouldnât be driving.â
âGive it to me right now!â
Aaron had no choice but to take the car keys and hand them to Culver.
Culver grabbed the car keys and was about to leave when two people stopped him.
âWhere are you going?â
They were Marilyn and Norman.
Culver had to restrain his impatience and explain, âIâm just going out for a moment!â
Norman admonished, âNo, you must stay in the company. There are so many affairs in the company that havenât been resolved fully. As a leader, your absence will greatly weaken the teamâs morale.â
âIâll be back soon.â
Culver pursed his lips. He was worried about Naomi and wanted to pay her a visit.
Marilyn looked around and found that the employees were staring at them.
Therefore, she called for Aaron instantly, saying, âEveryone has been busy all night. Bring them to have breakfast and get some rest! Thereâs still a lot of work awaiting all of you.â
âYes!â Shortly afterwards, Aaron and the employees left.
Only then did Marilyn look at Culver and say, âI know what youâre going out for. You want to see Naomi. Youâve let me and your father down. If it werenât for that woman, we would not have encountered this crisis!â
Culver found her accusation unreasonable.
âI donât care what she did in the past. She is undeniably a victim in this matter. Now that something has happened to her, shouldnât we at least show a little compassion?â
âShut up! Your words are all pretentious. I wonât stop you if thatâs the only reason why you wanted to go, but itâs clear that something else is on your mind. Judging by your eagerness to drive Queenie away and to send Evan to the prison, you must still harbor feelings for her, am I right?â
Culver was dumbstruck.
He thought of the phone call he had received in the morning.
âIt was you!â
Finally figuring things out, he accused Marilyn, âThe one who instructed the people to incite a riot at Naomiâs company was you, right?â
Marilyn furrowed her brows and retorted, âIt doesnât matter who did it. Anyway, itâs best for her to leave Greene City now. The two of you do not belong to the same world!â
Culver sneered, âSo, you were the reason she behaved in such a distant and cold way to me recently.â
Marilyn lowered her head and said, âLetâs not talk about the past. You can rest assured that I wonât force you to go on blind dates in the future. You can marry whoever you want except Naomi.â
âWhy is she an exception? You were the one who said that you wonât force me, yet you still set absurd rules for me. Do you really have to be that picky about who I marry? Arenât you afraid that your vanity will be held as an object of ridicule?â
âHow dare you say that!â
Norman rebuked him, âHow can you talk to your mother like that? Nobody dares to treat us with ridicule. In reality, a marriage between families of equal social rank is natural.â
âF*ck you!â
Culver flew off the handle.
He had been nursing a grievance against his overbearing parents for nearly thirty years. All the while, he had kept telling himself that they were his only family members and that they were doing everything for his own good.
Therefore, he pretended not to see their indifference and heartlessness over the years.
He had tried his best to turn himself into a dispassionate workaholic. However, that façade fell the moment he met Naomi.
For some reason, she made him feel alive.
All he needed was just Naomi. He wondered why his parents couldnât allow that.
âCulver, watch your mouth!â
Marilyn yelled with a trembling voice, âYou are the president of the company. How impolite of you to speak in that way!â
âPresident?â
He lowered his head to look at his badge. When he was twenty years old, Norman had personally given it to him. He had thought that he would carry it with him for the rest of his life.
However, things hadnât turned out the way he expected.
He pulled the badge off.
âLet anyone else whoâs willing to become the President! I donât want this position anymore!â
