Clint Zuckerberg understood and instantly started to investigate.
Amos Granger leaned against the chair, reminiscing the feeling of Eudora George lying on his body just now.
However, over time, the feeling dissipated. Amos frowned and called Clint over.
âIâm going home. You should have a good rest too. Weâll talk about it tomorrow if anything comes up.â
After leaving the building, Amos drove straight home.
The house was pitch-dark. Amos pushed the door open and went in. Looking at the closed door on the second floor, he couldnât muster the courage to go upstairs.
After a moment of stupor, he went to the sofa next to him and sat down.
Suddenly, a woman moaned, âOuchâ¦â
Amos was startled and turned on the lights hastily.
The woman was lying on the sofa in her pajamas, looking at him with sleepy eyes.
He had just sat on her leg and she woke up in pain.
Amos frowned slightly and asked, âWhy are you sleeping here?â
Eudora pursed her lips. She honestly didnât know why she chose to sleep here. The big house felt like a cage when Amos wasnât home. Hence, she would rather stay here than to go inside.
However, she was not going to tell him that.
She found an excuse and told him, âI accidentally fell asleep while I was reading.â
They had a habit of reading on the sofa, hence there were always a few books being placed there. After Eudora finished her sentence, she stood up and walked away.
âIâm going upstairs!â
However, as soon as she moved, she felt pain shooting through her ankle.
She gritted her teeth and insisted on standing up. But Amos had held her down at the very next second.
âWhy are you pushing yourself so hard?â
âIâm fineâ¦â Eudora answered. And that moment, Amos had reached out and pressed her ankle.
âOuch!â Eudora grimaced in pain.
âDidnât you say that it didnât hurt?â His face became bitter as he said it. Eudora knew she couldnât win the argument so she didnât say anything.
Amos sat down beside her. âDoes it hurt?â Amos asked as his slender fingers massaged her ankle back and forth.
âNoâ¦â
âHow about this?â
âOuch! Ouch! Stop thatâ¦â
Amos breathed a sigh of relief. âYou just sprained your ankle. It shouldnât pose too much of a problem. Youâll be fine tomorrow morning after some sleep.â After that, he took the first aid kit and wrapped her ankle with bandages.
He then carried her and brought her upstairs.
Eudora looked at him warily. She was still traumatized by the incident that had happened that night. Hence whenever she saw Amos, she would feel inexplicably nervous.
Amos frowned and immediately spat out, âIâm not going to do anything to you!â
Only then did Eudora relax. She rolled to the edge of the bed and fell asleep slowly.
Seeing that Eudoraâs breathing had gradually calmed down, Amos could not help but laugh bitterly. Was he that scary?
When Eudora woke up the next day, she found that Amos had already left. The bedsheet on Amosâ side was somewhat wrinkled. It was a sign that he had slept there.
Eudora gaped at it blankly for a while. She then got out of bed.
â¦
In Valiant East, Clint was ready to report his findings.
âI had initially thought the secretary was sent by the Second Master. But Iâd found out later that she was sent by Old Master Granger. Didnât he know that you are unwell? Why would he do this to you?â
Amos recalled the conversation he had with his father back at the old house. He immediately understood.
The old man was not giving up yet. He wanted him to break up with Eudora. He must have done this to test them.
Thinking about it, Amos smiled and said, âLooks like heâll be disappointed!â
Clint was astounded, âShould we continue with the investigation?â
âThatâs not necessary!â Amos said. âWhere did Harley go these days? What is he so busy with?â
âIt seems that heâs working on an assignment,â Clint said.
âAlright then!â Amos nodded.
At the same time, Wendy was still in her apartment, struggling to calm down after returning home the day before.
Seeing that Eudora could cure Amos so easily, the restlessness in her heart became even more intense. She started to wonder whether Amos had found something out.
The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt. Wendy left her apartment and went straight to Valiant East.
As soon as she entered, Amos asked bluntly, âWhy did you come yesterday?â
Wendy was stunned and hurriedly explained, âNothing much. I just came to see you. But I didnât expect you to be sick. How are you feeling now?â
After saying that, she stepped forward and took a careful look at Amos. He was completely healed.
If she hadnât seen Amos with her own eyes yesterday, she wouldnât believe that he had suffered severe rashes. There was no sign of them at all now.
Seeing that Wendy was staring intently at him, Amos grimaced and put down the document in his hand.
âWhat are you looking at?â
Wendy regained her composure and responded, âOhh! I didnât expect Miss George to be so great at curing your illness!â
Amos ignored her. Wendy then continued to ask, âWas Miss George ever a doctor or a nurse?â
âThatâs none of your business!â Amos reacted coldly.
Wendy realized that Amos seemed to be annoyed, so she immediately stopped talking.
After walking back to the sofa and sitting down, Wendy asked gently, âAmos, do you still remember what happened at the basement in the States?â
Amos finally reacted. He looked up at her and asked, âWhy are you bringing that up?â
âIâm starting to miss that side of you. At that time, you were not as cold as you are now. Although you shouted at me, I know you were just afraid that I would get hurt.â
Amos pursed his lips and replied, âYou saved my life. Of course, I donât want you to get hurt.â
âDo you still remember what I looked like at that time?â Wendy said.
âDonât you look the same now?â Amos asked. Hearing this, Wendy was stunned. âIâm the one asking you.â
âSorry, I really donât remember. At that time, your face was very dirty and your hair was a mess. I only remembered that there was a tooth mark on your arm.â
âI see.â Wendy smiled. âActually, youâre right. I donât remember your face either. If you hadnât come to me, I would still be tortured there.â
Speaking of this, Wendy shivered, as if she was recalling hell.
âThatâs not going to happen again! Your life will only get better from now on.â Amos comforted.
âYes!â Wendy smiled and took out the pumpkin soup that she had brought. âI made it this morning. Would you like to try it?â
âIâ¦â Amos wanted to reject and say that he was full, but he couldnât help but think about the situation back in the basement.
âOkay, letâs eat together then!â
Wendy excitedly scooped the soup into two big bowls. She then sat down in front of Amos.
âIs it delicious?â She looked at Amos expectantly.
Amos suddenly thought of the scene where Eudora first cooked for him. She had also looked at him expectantly and asked him if it tasted good.
At that time, he said he was not picky and he didnât care much about what he ate, so long as they were edible.
She must have felt disappointed.
