Franco Horace replied with a straight face, his eyes not showing any kind of remorse whatsoever. âWhat do you mean? Isnât it obvious itâs all business? I chased after her because she tried to run away after taking my moneyâ¦â
Eudora George subconsciously denied. âNoâ¦â
Before she could finish her sentence, Amos Granger suddenly clicked his tongue.
âIt seems that your discussion with President Horace is not going very well. Maybe you should consider calling it off now.â Amos stared at Eudora, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Eudoraâs face turned pale as she recalled what Amos had said to her before. She felt a wave of sadness in her heart. âWe made an appointment to discuss about business, but he was the one who didnât honor his part of the deal first. On what grounds are you believing his words of slander? Just because you are Rosaville Cityâs most successful businessman doesnât mean you should insult me this way, donât you think?â
Amos was stunned. He narrowed his eyes at the struggling woman. She may be helpless, but she was still a feisty little lady.
Franco quickly explained. âPresident Granger, please donât listen to her nonsense. Sheâs just a measly woman. Thereâs no point talking to her. What do you say if we sit down and have a chat if youâre free?â
âIâm not in the mood!â Amos replied impatiently. The man was a nuisance to him.
Franco, however, was unwilling to give up. âShall we talk when youâre in the mood then?â
âGet lost!â Amos suddenly yelled.
Eudoraâs snide remarks earlier made his blood boil. At the corner of his eyes, he glared at the woman who was hiding behind Harley Louis. Somehow she managed to stir up different kind of emotions in him every time they met.
They were passionate the first time they met, followed by her indifference and distance in the mansion. And today he got to see how desperate and helpless she was.
Her exposed shoulder and trembling body, together with her disheveled long hair reminded him of the first time they met â how she cried so helplessly next to him.
âFranco, are you still not leaving? Do you need me to escort you?â Harley warned the plump man when he noticed Amosâ darkening expression.
Franco smiled and nodded. âNo no, thereâs no need for that. Iâm leaving right this instant.â
After the door was shut, Harley turned to look at Eudora, âAre you alright?â
Eudora shook her head, still shivering from the traumatic experience earlier.
Harley said again, âFranco is a cunning man. He might still be waiting for you outside. We were just leaving. Would you like to leave with us?â
Eudora slowly nodded her head, but stopped when she saw Amos staring at her. She suddenly shook her again violently. âItâs okay! I can handle it!â
As she was about to leave, her legs gave way. The drug in her spiked drink started to take effect again. She suddenly felt like her body was on fire.
Harley reached out his hand to support her. âAre you really alright?â
Amos grimaced. For some reason, the exchange in front of him fueled the bubbling anger in his chest.
He walked over and pushed Harley away from the woman. He muttered darkly, âWith your identity you shouldnât get too close to dubious strangers. Especially when youâre not aware with the personâs history and background. There are people out there who have no self-control and self-respect.â
Harleyâs brows twitched. âSo youâre saying you have them?â
Amos shot Harley a glare, his eyes warning him to keep his mouth shut.
Eudoraâs consciousness began to waver. She clearly knew that she had to be wary of the man in front of her, but his familiar and intoxicating scent was so captivating that she subconsciously leaned towards him. It was as if she needed his body to quench her hunger.
Amosâs eyes darkened upon realising what Franco had done. âThat prick!â
He glanced at Harley, âYou leave first!â
Before Harley could utter another word, Amos carried Eudora up the stairs.
