Both the father and son were very scheming. Therefore, Eudora could not help but wonder what Amos had promised his father when she saw that he was so relaxed.
Amos shook his head, âItâs okay. He has agreed to not make things difficult for you anymore. You and Juju will stay here in peace from now on.â
Eudora got even more worried, âWhat about you? What will you do?â
âIâ¦â Amos paused and continued, âWe may have to sleep in separate rooms but donât worry, I will sneak over whenever you need me.â
Eudora was speechless.
Why was this guy still joking at times like this?
âWho needs that?â
âI need it, okay?â
Juju stared at Eudora before turning to Amos and asking in a sweet voice, âMommy, Daddy, what do you need?â
Eudora was shocked.
She wanted nothing but to find a hole and bury herself inside. They were being a bad influence on their daughter.
âNothing!â Eudora explained hurriedly while Amos smiled and said, âWe are discussing whether Juju wants a brother or a sister!â
âJuju likes brothers and sisters.â
Eudora gritted her teeth, âAmos!â
âOkay, Mommy is angry now,â Amos said hurriedly, âThere are still some things that I need to deal with at the company. Iâll come back later. You and Juju can play in the garden for the time being.â
Eudora was still embarrassed after being teased by Amos. Thus, she simply nodded and watched him leave.
Meanwhile, Juju had been bored in the house for several days. Therefore, she was very happy that the weather was great and she was able to play outside. She was so excited that she ran around the garden.
The garden of the Granger family was specially managed by the gardeners and it blossomed all year round.
Eudora and Juju strolled along the path that was blooming with flowers and they arrived at a small house.
The door to the house was closed but they could smell sandalwood coming from it from afar.
Out of curiosity, Juju walked over.
Juju was about to push the door open when someone from the inside opened it. Bethany looked at them in surprise, âWhy are you here?â
Eudora pulled Juju hurriedly back and apologized, âIâm sorry, we were just playing in the garden and we accidentally ended up here. Iâm sorry to disturb you. Weâll leave right away.â
Bethany shook her head, âItâs okay. I was just here to pray for Amosâ elder brother!â
Amosâs elder brother? Eudora knew that he died a few years ago, that was why Old Master Granger brought Amos back from abroad.
Bethany sighed, âIn a blink of an eye, he had been gone for eight years and tomorrow will be his death anniversary. I donât know if he has been reincarnated to a better life.â
Bethany would wear a kind smile every day, so Eudora was at a loss when she saw that she was upset.
Eudora could only comfort her casually, âHe was a good man and he would most definitely live well.â
Bethany nodded, âYes, youâre right.â
After that, she added, âWhy donât you come in and pray for him?â
Eudora was taken aback, âThis is not appropriate, isnât it?â
After all, she was not married to Amos, so her identity was neither here nor there.
âWhy not? How is it inappropriate? Juju is the child of the Granger family. Sooner or later, you will be part of the Granger family. Amos had not come home over the past few years and he had never prayed for his brother. Juju could take his place to pray for him.â
With this, Bethany took a step back and pulled them in.
In the end, Eudora did not pray but she let Juju do it. Juju did not understand what she was doing and she just copied Bethanyâs movements. She stood there in a daze after she was done, and she peered at everything in the room with her big eyes.
The hut looked small from outside but it was a completely different world inside. There was a table used for praying at the front and there was a memorial tablet on it. Eudora glanced at the table casually and noticed that it was made from expensive Narra wood.
There were a lot of antiques next to the table and they were placed orderly and there wasnât a speck of dust on them.
Bethany smiled, âThese were Hankâs favorite. He was interested in antiques back then and he did not have any interest in company affairs. If only Amos came back earlier, that way, he didnât have to learn the things that he disliked because of his father.â
Bethanyâs attitude surprised Eudora.
She thought that Bethany would be threatened by Amosâ identity and become resentful of him. She did not expect Bethany to wish that Amos would come home to replace Hank earlier instead.
Bethany saw Eudoraâs reaction and she replied smilingly, âDo you think that a mother like me is a little unambitious? But in truth, these are my real thoughts. In oneâs life, no matter if weâre happy or sad, our time is inevitably limited. If thatâs the case, why should we live our lives unhappily?â
Eudora nodded in agreement, âYes! Youâre right.â
At this moment, Kayleneâs voice came from outside. âBethany, are you inside?â
As she spoke, she had already stepped into the hut. She frowned when she saw Eudora, âWhy are you here?â
Bethany explained hurriedly, âEudora brought Juju here to pray for Hank. Were you looking for me?â
âI have something to tell you!â
Bethany nodded and turned to Eudora, âThank you for coming to talk to me today. Have I said too much? You must be bored.â
Eudora shook her head, âNot at all! Itâs time for Juju to take a nap, so Iâll take her back first.â
âOkay!â Bethany nodded and watched them leave. Then, she turned around to pick up a rag and slowly wiped the table, âWhy were you looking for me?â
Kaylene did not speak. She merely frowned at the direction where Eudora had left.
âBethany, why are you so close to Eudora?â
Bethany still smiled kindly and replied as she wiped the table, âIs there anything wrong with that? Sheâs not bad and Juju is very cute. Iâm old and I like having people around.â
âBethanyâ¦â Kaylene gritted her teeth, âYou are too kind. Do you really think that Eudora and Amos are really in love? If she really loved Amos, then why did she leave him back then? This time, she might have taken a fancy to Amosâ inheritanceâ¦â
Bethany frowned, âEnough. I donât think that child is such a person. Besides, your big brother is in charge of the inheritance and he has better foresight than you. Donât worry about it.â
Kaylene still wanted to retort but when she shut her mouth reluctantly when she noticed that Bethany had no intention to discuss the topic any further.
She paused for a moment before telling Bethany the reason why she had come over.
âItâs Hankâs death anniversary tomorrow. Iâm here to discuss the arrangements with you.â
Bethanyâs finger paused and she sighed, âLetâs just forget about it this year! Your big brother is in poor health and Amos has just returned. Besides, the family is in a mess and I donât want to do anything. Besides, Hank doesnât like pretentious stuff. You could just come and visit him more often if you like.â
Kaylene frowned, âHow could we do that? After all, Hank was the eldest son in our family. Even if he is gone, he will forever come first in our hearts.â
