When they arrived at the hospital, Bethany Hamilton had just finished wiping the Old Masterâs body.
Seeing the two of them, Bethany put down the towel in her hand, âYouâre here!â
Eudora George observed her body language, âDo you not suspect me?â
Bethany smiled and said, âOf course not. Didnât you say that the police are involved? Since thatâs the case, letâs just let them run through the due process. Whatâs the point of suspecting you? Itâll just make things uncomfortable between us.â
Before this, Eudora only treated Bethany with respect. Now, she was growing really fond of this woman.
She was indeed a very rational person and she was level-headed too.
âThank you!â Eudora said sincerely.
Next, she put down the fruit and broth that they had brought and asked, âHowâs the Old Master doing?â
âHe hasnât woken up yet. The doctors say that he may never wake upâ¦â
Eudora frowned, âNo! He will definitely wake up soon!â
Bethany smiled and shrugged, âItâs fine. Sometimes, itâs better to remain asleep.â
Eudora was stunned for a moment, but Bethany quickly changed the topic.
âHow is your foot? You have to be careful when you move around.â
âOkay!â Eudora nodded, âDonât worry, Iâm fine.â
While they were talking, Amos Granger just stood beside his fatherâs bed. No one could tell what he was thinking.
Seeing this, Bethany deliberately excused herself, âWe are short on supplies so Iâm going to head out with the servants to get them. Why donât you all stay here with the Old Master for a bit?â
Eudora nodded and went over to hold Amosâ hand after Bethany left.
Amos broke out from his trance and smiled at Eudora.
âWhat are you thinking about?â Eudora asked.
Amos sighed, âI just thought of the time when my mother told me about him when I was a little child.â
He was talking about the Old Master. Even though he didnât spell it out, Eudora knew who he was referring to.
Without waiting for her to answer, Amos spoke again, âAt that time, I was about at Jujuâs age. When I saw that everyone else had a father, I asked her what my father looked like. She told me that my father was a tall and masculine man and that he was well-known in the business world and he always lived a comfortable life. In short, he was the best person in the world.â
While Amos spoke, he also smiled.
âWould such a perfect person exist in this world? But I believed her words back then. If she could see him now, I wonder whether she would be disappointed.â
Eudora shook her head, âNo, Amos. I donât think so.â
Amos looked at her doubtfully, so she proceeded to explain, âYou donât understand women because you arenât one. I know that your mother believed in every single word she said. She loved him a lot, so in her eyes, he was that perfect person. Even up to this moment, she would see him that way.â
Amos pursed his lips. After a while, he replied, âMaybe youâre right. So, in your eyes, am I that good as well?â
This manâ¦
How did he even wind up relating this to himself? However, she knew that this was his attempt at concealing the hurt in his heart.
She nodded, âYes. To me, youâre exactly like that.â
Amosâ lips curled up slightly, âTo me, youâre perfect as well.â
Eudora couldnât bear it any longer. She felt goosebumps run all over her body. Luckily, her phone rang at that moment. She was afraid that it would disturb the Old Master so she grabbed her phone and quickly left the room.
It was Christopher Gellert. As soon as she picked up, she heard his anxious voice from the other end of the phone, âWhatâs going on? Are you hurt?â
âHow did you find out?â
Christopher hesitated for a moment and then said, âLooks like itâs true. Eudora, am I not your friend anymore? You didnât even call me after going through such a big thing. In case you have forgotten, Iâm still your boss!â
Eudora shrank her neck, âIt was just a small injury. Besides, it would be better for you to keep your distance.â
When she finished speaking, she heard a sweet female voice on the other end of the call.
It was Tina Holtâs voice.
âEudora, how could you? We didnât even get a chance to visit you! If it werenât for Thea, we wouldnât have known.â
Now she knew who the snitch was!
Eudora didnât know what to say, âAre the both of you blaming me for this?â
âWeâre not! Perhaps we could drop by one of these days if youâre free!â
âPlease donât!â Eudora immediately objected, âThereâs something going on at home, so I wonât be free.â
Tina mumbled, âOkay then. When youâre well, Iâll buy you a drink.â
Eudora was speechless.
Before she could finish her speaking, Eudora heard Christopher scold her, âTina!â
Tina chuckled. Eudora suddenly remembered something and asked, âWell, how is the amusement park project going? Are there any problems?â
âNone so far,â Tina said, âItâs progressing steadily.â
âThatâs good!â
After hanging up the phone, Eudora headed back to the ward. Just as she arrived at the door, she saw several doctors and nurses running toward her from the end of the corridor.
Eudoraâs heart sank. Just as she was about to rush into the ward, Bethany came back from grocery shopping.
Seeing this scene, she was also shocked, âWhatâs going on? What happened to the Old Master?â
Before Eudora could speak, Amos interjected, âThe Old Master woke up.â
Bethany was stunned. Eudora exclaimed, âReally? Did the Old Master really wake up?â
Amos nodded, âYes, but only for a few seconds. After that, he fell unconscious again.â
âThatâs also a good sign. The Old Master will definitely recover.â
âYes, and it looked like he was about to tell me something just now. Knowing his willpower, heâll definitely wake up again!â
As he spoke, the doctor had just finished with his checkup.
Bethany asked in a hurry, âHow does it look?â
There was a trace of a smile on the doctorâs face, âThe Old Master looks fine. Donât worry, if things were to go well, he should wake up within three days. He would still need someone to look after him for now.â
âThank you, Doctor,â Bethany said.
After the doctor left, Amos told Bethany, âYou must be very tired. You should head home now. Eudora and I will take care of him.â
Bethany shook her head, âItâs okay. Iâm used to taking care of himâ¦â
âVincentâs at home. Youâd better go back and take a rest!â
Upon hearing this, Bethany nodded, âThen Iâll go back and take a look at Vincent. Iâll be back tomorrow morning.â
After Bethany left, Eudora rushed to the Old Masterâs side and whispered, âOld Master, Amos is here to see you. Wake up quickly, and then we could go for a holiday together.â
Amos looked at Eudora with a smile, âIt seems that this little nurse has become dumb today.â
Eudora was stunned, âHold on, so the Old Master didnât wake up just now?â
âIt was just a distraction! Didnât we talk about this on our way here earlier?â
Eudora was disappointed. She had forgotten about their early discussion. She truly believed that the Old Master had woke up briefly earlier.
