Eudora George didnât immediately ask him for a reason. She bent down and picked the Legos off the floor, then proceeded to build a plane.
She noticed Amos frequently enticing Juju with this, so she knew what she needed to do.
Sure enough, Vincentâs attention was drawn to the small plane in her hand.
Eudora smiled at him, âDo you like this?â
She always believed that every child is innocent. No matter what fights the adults had, she refused to get a child involved in it.
Vincent seemed to have seen through her. He spoke.
âYouâre a bad person. Youâre trying to bribe me.â
Eudora couldnât help raising her eyebrows. She fiddled around and made a figurine, saying, âWow, you noticed that? Yes, I admit, I am a bad person. But I want to become a good person. Could you help me with that?â
Even though Vincent was a timid child with a short fuse, in every child burned the desire to become a superhero. It looked like Eudora had picked the correct strategy.
After she said that, Vincent contemplated her words.
Eudora didnât rush him. She did her own work while waiting for him to reply.
After a while, Vincent said, âGranduncle Harry and Grandaunty Kaylene said that you are a bad person. They said that you put my mom in jail.â
It seemed that Harry and Kaylene were behind this after all!
Eudora reached out and patted Vincentâs head, âYouâre a good child. Here, this is for you.â
Eudora tipped the figurine toward him. As Vincent took the figurine from her, a child-like smile appeared on his face.
âThank you!â
Eudora shook her head, âYouâre welcome.â
Looking at her smile, Vincent frowned, âWhy did Granduncle Harry and Grandaunty Kaylene say that youâre a bad person? In this house, apart from Grandma, youâre the only one who plays with me.â
She was right. All children were innocent.
Sighing, Eudora said sincerely, âYou are still young, so there are still a lot of things that are difficult for you to understand now. There are all sorts of people in this world, and we wouldnât be able to tell that someone is bad or good easily. Youâll learn this when you grow up.â
Vincent nodded even though he didnât really understand.
Eudora retreated and turned to leave. After a few steps, Vincent suddenly caught up, âWait, I- I pushed you earlier. Iâm sorry.â
Eudora was stunned. She smiled at him earnestly, âItâs fine!â
âThen⦠will you play with me again in the future?â
Eudora nodded, âYes.â
âGreat!â
â¦
As Eudora and Amos walked out of the hall, they saw Harry and Kaylene rushing in.
Harry immediately spoke.
âKaylene said that youâve caught the culprit? Why hasnât a trial date been set yet?â
Amos was stunned, âUncle Harry, I think that youâre asking the wrong person. Iâve already reported this to the police so Iâll leave it to them.â
âYouâre part of the victimâs family, so Iâm sure that the police will listen to you. If youâre too busy to handle this, Iâm happy to take charge of it.â said Harry.
Wasnât he being a little too obvious?
Amos smiled slightly and said, âOkay!â
Eudora looked at Amos in confusion, âAre you sure?â
Amos shook his head, âItâs fine. Uncle Harry is the only senior in this house who could deal with this. Iâll leave this matter to him then.â
Harry nodded with satisfaction, âThatâs right. Could you please give Officer Louis a heads-up then? Iâll go over there right now and ask him to arrange for an interrogation of the culprit.â
âIâm afraid that wonât do,â Amos objected, âIâll do anything but interfere with the investigation.â
âYouâ¦â Harryâs face darkened, âArenât you a good friend of Officer Louis?â
âFriendship and work are two separate matters. This concerns his work, so I will not disturb him.â
Harry started to shout, âI think that youâre just trying to help Eudora. If youâre not going to deal with this, then I will,â After saying this, he turned around and left in a hurry.
Eudora sighed helplessly, âWhat if he really goes and messes things up?â
âThen, let him be. As I said, not everyone gets to boss the police around.â
Eudora was relieved.
Amos kept pushing her forward. Eventually, she ended up at the entrance of the house.
âWhere are we going?â Eudora asked suspiciously.
âHome!â
Eudora was stunned. She turned around to look at him. His eyes met hers and he said, âYou were quite stern with Vincent earlier. I think that you miss Juju, right?â
He actually saw right through her emotions. Eudora was slightly embarrassed, âHow did you know?â
âYouâre my beloved, so how could I not know?â
âI may be your beloved, but youâre not the little voice in my head!â Eudora scoffed.
She might have said so, but deep down, she was delighted. Amos was becoming more observant and caring as the days passed.
Juju was happy when she saw that her parents were back to spend time with her. At night, the three of them slept in one bed peacefully like old times.
The next morning, the first thing Eudora heard when she woke up was the sound of Amos on the phone with Harley.
âYour uncle dropped by earlier. He kept asking if we knew who was behind everything. Of course, I didnât tell him who it was.â
Amos nodded, âI see.â
Harley was surprised, âArenât you curious? Donât you want to know who it is?â
âWhatâs there to be curious about? Iâm guessing that you guys havenât found out yet, otherwise you wouldâve told me about it.â
âD*mn it!â Harley couldnât help but thumbed up Amos.
âAs you have expected, I couldnât get much out of her. Her mouth is sealed shut. But trust me, Iâll get something out from her soon.â
âVery well, I believe in you.â
After a pause, Amos asked, âHas anything happened at the hospital?â
âNothing so far,â Harley said.
Amos reminded him again, âIf we canât get anything out from Zena, then why donât we try another way?â
Harleyâs eyes lit up, â I know what you mean!â
In the afternoon, the entire Granger family received news from the hospital. They were told that the Old Master had woken up once again. He was about to tell them who the culprit was, but he lost consciousness before he could.
Everyone immediately rushed to the hospital.
They ended up waiting the entire day, but there were no signs of him waking up.
Seeing that it was already getting late, the doctor said, âI would like the patient to get some rest at night, so it might be preferable if you all leave. The patient will most likely wake up in the next 24 hours so you all neednât be too worried. If there isnât anything else to attend to, why not go home first?â
Amos nodded. As per the doctorâs instruction, everybody left, leaving only the nurses to tend to the Old Master.
In the middle of the night, a black shadow sneaked into the ward.
