Even so, Eudora George did not cook dinner that night.
As she was eager to get Amos to cook a meal for the Old Master, she directly took Juju with her to play games in the living room.
Amos Granger had no choice but to cook by himself. Only a few minutes later, another bang was heard from the kitchen, and the whole room was filled with thick smoke.
Eudora opened the window hurriedly. As soon as she rushed into the kitchen, she saw that the dishes in the pot were scorched.
Amosâ and the Old Masterâs faces were black, and Eudora thought that their hair had exploded. She had never seen such a side to Old Master Granger and Amos before. She couldnât help but laugh out loud. She could even barely stand up straight.
Amos and Old Master Granger looked at each other. They both burst into laughter when they saw each otherâs appearance.
In the end, Eudora had to drive them out and clean up the kitchen from scratch. However, she didnât throw away the charred roasted pork that they had made.
She cleaned the pork up a little and served it after warming it up.
Amos took a look at it and frowned, âIâll throw it away!â
âHey! Donât waste. There are two pounds of meat in this dish!â
Amos was speechless, âWhen did our family become so poor?â
âYou b*stard, now that youâre having a good life, youâve forgotten the bad old days in the past. You mustnât forget where you come from no matter what happens. You donât need to have high expectations for food. Itâs good enough if you could have a hearty meal!â
Eudora was speechless.
She finally understood why Amos had said that he didnât have a high expectation for food when she first met him.
It turned out that he was under the influence of the Old Master!
At this moment, the Old Master placed a piece of meat into his mouth.
The charred meat was almost unrecognizable. Although Eudora had already cleaned it up a little, she just ensured that it was cooked.
Just as Old Master Granger was thinking that he should just throw the meat away, Juju, who was next to him, suddenly asked, âGrandpa, is it delicious?â
The Old Master nodded, and a satisfied smile gradually appeared on his face, âItâs delicious!â
âReally?â Juju was curious. She immediately picked up her cutlery. Before Eudora could stop her, she had already put a piece of meat into her mouth.
The next second, Juju spit it out and said, âGrandpa, you lied. Itâs terrible!â
The Old Master picked up another piece and put it into his mouth, âYou donât know how to appreciate it but you will understand it in the future!â
Eudora, however, understood and remembered what she had said to persuade him when the Old Master refused to take his medicine back then. She said that he hadnât eaten the food that Amos had cooked yet.
Later, the Old Master compromised. For him, perhaps the dish was not a simple dish anymore. Therefore, in his heart, even if it was charred, it was still delicious.
Juju still didnât understand and Eudora quickly reached out and patted her on the back.
âLetâs eat the ones that Mommy made!â
The Old Master eventually finished the dish by himself in the end. Although Amos had persuaded him several times, he was still stubborn till the very end.
As a result, in the middle of the night, the Old Master got sick.
When Eudora and Amos heard the noise and came out, they saw the Old Master sitting on the floor in the living room with his hands on his stomach. He was wincing.
Both of them were shocked and they immediately rushed him to the hospital.
They all thought that his cancer had relapsed again. Fortunately, the diagnosis revealed that it was just an upset stomach caused by eating unhealthy food.
The Old Master felt much better after taking the medication and being put on an IV drip in the hospital.
Amos was still sulking when he came into the ward with the admittance sheet in his hand. He felt that the Old Master shouldnât be acting like a child.
He was frowning. Eudora was worried that they would quarrel again, so she advised him, âDonât be impulsive. The Old Master is just too happy, and he didnât mean itâ¦â
Before she could even finish speaking, both she and Amos heard the conversation between the doctor and Old Master Granger in the ward.
âOld peopleâs stomach could not digest greasy food well, so youâd better opt for some light and healthy food instead.â
The Old Master nodded and said, âThank you, Doctor. I was just a little overjoyed, hence I ended up eating too much.â
The doctor asked, âWhy?â
The Old Masterâs smile became even brighter as he smiled from ear to ear.
âYou donât know, do you? Itâs the first time that my son cooked for me. Although he didnât cook very well, itâs still really delicious.â
The doctor was stunned, âYour son is rather unfilial!â
The Old Master immediately pulled a long face and looked very serious.
âMy son is not unfilial. Itâs my fault. We were never close to each other, and we had not stayed together before this. But I know that he is a filial child. Knowing that I will die soon, he brought my daughter-in-law and my granddaughter back to see meâ¦â
Amos was rooted to the spot, and Eudora had already reached out to hold his hand.
The two of them were silent for a while. They waited for the doctor to come out before they went into the ward together.
Amos took the examination sheet in his hand and walked to the Old Masterâs bed. Seeing that he was about to say something, Eudora shook her head hurriedly and motioned him to not speak.
The Old Master was a smart man. He knew exactly what Amos was going to say, so he spoke directly, âAlright, just say what you have to say and donât cover up in front of me!â
Eudora pursed her lips and looked at Amos.
However, he was not reprimanding the Old Master. Instead, he asked, âWhat do you want to eat tomorrow?â
Old Master Granger was stunned. Eudora reacted and looked at him hurriedly, indicating he should answer the question quickly as his son was going to cook for him again!
However, the Old Master was still taken aback. It took a while before he finally said, âYou decide!â
Amos frowned and thought for a while before saying, âYouâre not allowed to eat roasted pork or other greasy food. Iâll make you something light tomorrow, okay?â
The Old Master nodded, âOkay!â
âAre you feeling any discomfort now?â
The Old Master shook his head, âNo!â
âLetâs go home then! The doctor said that you are allowed to go home as long as youâre feeling fine!â
Old Master Granger nodded again. When Amos went to get the car, Eudora saw the Old Masterâs red-rimmed eyes. She suddenly felt a little distressed and she said hurriedly, âYou should be happy at this time!â
âYes!â The Old Master nodded, âYes, I should be happy! Itâs all thanks to you. Donât worry. I wonât break my promise.â
Eudora smiled and said, âI helped you not because of what you had promised me. Itâs because Amos is my family and I hope he will not regret it. Right now, itâs good for you, for me, and for him.â
Old Master Granger looked at Eudora for a long time before nodding his head.
âI have seen countless people in my life, but I still misjudged two people. One is Amosâ mother, and the other is you. Amosâ mother has been my lifetimeâs regret. Fortunately, I got to see you clearly at the end!â
Eudora suddenly smiled and said, âOld Master, I will take that as a compliment!â
âIt is a compliment!â The Old Master said with a smile.
At this moment, Amos had already arrived to pick them up. Eudora held the Old Masterâs up hurriedly and said, âLetâs go home.â
Hearing that, the Old Master sighed with emotion, âOkay, letâs go home.â
