â¦
Kesha nodded her head vigorously. She thanked the heavens that she could finally breathe again.
She didnât dare to get close to Steven anymore. He was not in the mood to play around with her. Kesha left soon after.
Steven went straight back to the old mansion. At this moment, Bethany was planting flowers at home.
Ever since Amos left the company, Bethany had returned to her previous calm and casual self. She would do some gardening and take care of the children every day. She didnât look anxious at all.
When she saw Steven, she smiled and instructed the new housekeeper, who was standing behind her.
âI have prepared some soup earlier this morning. Get a bowl for Steven. Itâs nourishing.â
Steven shook his head subconsciously and refused, âIâll pass!â
Bethany looked at him suspiciously. He explained hurriedly, âI⦠ate with Kesha outside just now, and Iâm still feeling a little full.â
Knowing that his parents might have been poisoned to death, heâd be a fool to consume anything that was offered by someone else now.
Bethany pursed her lips and said nothing else.
âWell, you could have it later then. Howâs the company doing recently? Are you busy?â
Steven shook his head, âItâs okay. Everything is going well.â
âThatâs good. Amos is a very capable person. Since you have taken over the company, you would have to do better so that you could shut those directorsâ mouths up.â
âGot it,â Steven responded.
When she noticed him spacing out, Bethany said again, âOh, by the way, I have nothing to do at home these days. I sorted out some of your parentsâ relics and put them in the living room of your parentsâ villa. If you are not busy today, do have a look at them. Just let the housekeeper know if there is anything that you wish to keep. Then, Iâll have the rest cleaned up as soon as possible. Leaving these things scattered around the house would only remind you of their owner. It would be difficult to move on when you always look at the things from the past.â
Bethanyâs considerate look brought a trace of warmth to Stevenâs heart.
âOkay! Thank you, Aunt Bethany.â
Then, the housekeeper led Steven to his parentsâ villa.
There was indeed a pile of things in the living room. All of them were sorted out neatly. Some of the important things were all packed in the boxes carefully.
The housekeeper sighed emotionally, âThe Madam had really put in a lot of effort to sort them out. She didnât allow us to interfere when she was sorting them out. She said that the Old Master was the closest to Master Harry when he was still alive. Now that the Old Master and Master Harry have passed away, she has to protect this family well. You mustnât be wronged as well.â
Steven pursed his lips, âAunt Bethany is truly considerate.â
He went over and rummaged through his parentsâ relics in detail.
Although he had been abroad for many years, he could still remember every memory he had in this place.
He was born into the family and he grew up in this yard since he was a child. Everything here contained his precious memories.
At this moment, Steven saw a notebook in between the pile of items. He was startled, âIs this my fatherâs diary?â
Harry had a habit of writing diaries, which he insisted on every day when he was very young. However, he started to slowly grow out of this habit as he grew up.
The housekeeper shook his head, âWe donât know about this either. The Madam said that we are only allowed to sort out the items here. We are prohibited from flipping through them. It is a kind of respect for the dead. However, there are really many books like this one here.â
He then picked up a few more identical books and placed them before Steven.
âLookâ¦â
Steven picked it up and flipped through it a few times. It was indeed his fatherâs diary.
He turned to the last page, which recorded the night before his fatherâs death.
Steven glanced at it, and he was shocked.
The housekeeper asked immediately when he saw Stevenâs ghastly expression, âYoung Master Steven, are you alright?â
Steven exhaled hurriedly, âYes. Iâm fine. I just remembered some past events. You should go on with your work. Iâll tidy it up here myself.â
The housekeeper nodded and left.
Steven opened the diary and continued to read. The content in the diary was similar to what Kesha had said. His father wrote that he had gotten the latest news and Amos had found someone to deal with him.
However, he swore that he would not let Amos succeed. He had been a coward for most of his life, and he could not let his son be a coward as well. He would try to find a way to meet Amos the next dayâ¦
Steven couldnât see the rest of the diary. His gaze stopped at where Harry had mentioned that Amos was going to deal with him. And also, the part where he wrote that he couldnât let his son be a coward anymore.
Earlier, when Steven came back from the United States, he was bent on telling his father about his intention to build an amusement park. In fact, he also had the idea of asking his father to reconcile with the Old Masterâs family at that time.
He had figured out many things when he was abroad for the past few years. He thought it was futile to continue fighting with Amos. However, to comfort his father, he still pretended to help him.
He even deliberately approached Kesha so that his father would not suspect him.
Steven thought that he had executed his plans flawlessly, but he didnât expect that his father could still see through him.
Didnât he already tell Amos earlier that he didnât want to fight with him? Why did Amos still try to force them to the edge then?
Stevenâs heart ached when he realized that his fatherâs death was due to his own foolishness and naivety.
Amos Grangerâ¦
Steven gritted his teeth, âFrom now on, I will be your rival.â
â¦
At the outdoor garden.
The housekeeper had returned to the main hall. He approached Bethany, who was still snipping off the branches from her flower.
âMadamâ¦â
âHas he seen the necessary items?â
The housekeeper nodded, âHe has seen it all! Young Master Steven is smart. He will definitely understand it!â
âGood!â Bethany pursed her lips, âItâs time for him to do something!â
She put down the scissors in her hand and looked at the flowers in front of her with satisfaction.
âHe is just like a flower. He must be trimmed from time to time before he could grow up according to your plan.â
âWise words, Madam,â the housekeeper smiled, âYour work is splendid.â
Bethany nodded and put down the scissors again, âWhere is Vincent? How is he recently?â
âThe Little Master is doing fine. He goes to class on time every day. When he comes back home, he would stay in the room and study hard. All is well!â
âThatâs good, but you have to remember my words. Donât let the child be lazy. We should let him read more. Iâve asked you to hire a teacher. Have you done it yet?â
âYes, it has all been arranged.â
At this moment, a servant came in and whispered something into the housekeeperâs ear.
The housekeeper then went over immediately and whispered to Bethany, âMadam, didnât you tell us to keep track of the situation of Miss Georgeâs ex-husband? I just got the news that he behaved well in prison and has been released in advance.â
âOh?â Bethany smirked, âFind a chance to disclose this news to Steven. That child had a lot in his mind now. He must be dejected.â
âUnderstood!â
