When Eudora heard his words, she rolled her eyes at Harley.
âWhatâs the matter with you? Arenât you wooing Thea? Why are you still thinking of other women?â
Harley chuckled a little in embarrassment.
Amos, who was next to Eudora, glanced at Harley coldly, âWhat are you laughing about?â
Harley was stunned by his fierce tone.
âHey, donât overreact, okay? I just chuckled to your wife, do you have to be this scary?â
Eudora smiled at Amos. She could tell that he was being protective of her.
âForget about the ladies! Iâll treat you guys to a meal, how about that?â
âNot coming!â Harley yelled in defiance.
âWell, itâs up to you then! When the time comes, Iâll invite Thea as wellâ¦â
After that, she instantly let out a yawn. She felt really sleepy.
Amos took notice and told Clint to drive more carefully.
Harley looked at Eudora, who was leaning into Amosâs arms, begrudgingly and said, âAmos, arenât you being a bit overbearing right now?â
âDo you have a problem with that?â Amos said dismissively.
âDo you think you should be showing your affection in front of two bachelors?â Harley was speechless.
Amos glanced at Clint, âIs it bad?â
Clint nodded, âIt does seem to be a littleâ¦â
Finally, Harley had found a good friend. He was almost in tears as he hugged Clint. Amos, on the other hand, told him to pack it in.
He then proceeded to take off his coat and covered Eudora with it.
Harley and Clint were rendered silent.
Only after Eudora and Juju were sent back home did Amos walk out and meet up with Clint and the others.
Clint had come over not only to help them register their marriage but also to make a progress report as well.
The three of them headed straight to the study. Clint spoke first.
âPresident Granger, as we have predicted, Bethany had gone over to speak to Steven as soon as we disclosed the evidence. Although it seemed pretty calm recently, however, Iâve got some news from private sources. Apparently, Bethany has secretly contacted some senior directors. Steven hasnât been idle as well. Heâs been planning behind our backs. What are we going to do next?â
âWhat should we do? Arenât they competing with each other? That must surely be beneficial to us. Let them fight it out first,â Harley said bluntly.
Clintâs thoughts on this matter, however, were different, âThe votes that were cast by the board of directors would determine who the next head of the Valiant East will be. Based on President Grangerâs past experiences in Valiant East, he could consider paying several of these directors a visit. Heâll definitely stand out.â
There was no doubt about this.
It had only been a few months since Steven had started to lead the company. The groupâs overall profit had not increased in the slightest as Steven had caused an incident that ruined the companyâs reputation. It took them a lot of effort to get it back on the right track. However, since the first half of the year was almost over, it was pretty difficult for them to start generating profits to mitigate the losses.
Although the people in the company did not say anything outright, they were undoubtedly filled with complaints and grudges.
Meanwhile, Bethany had the Old Masterâs will in her hands. However, she was still a woman after all and had no prior experience. Amos would be more preferable than her to take charge of Valiant East.
That was what Clint thought. He turned his gaze back to Amos and asked.
âWhat do you think?â
Whatever Clint said was right, but Amos still shook his head.
âLetâs talk about this another time. Weâll have to look into their situation first. Iâll be quite busy these few days, so if there are any decisions that needed to be made, go ahead of yourself. Unless itâs something big, donât look for me.â
After that, Amos stood up, pushed the door open, and left.
Harley and Clint looked at each other, speechless. They didnât know what Amos was up to.
However, Harley was not the kind of person who could hold himself back from questioning. If he didnât understand something, he would try his hardest to figure it out.
He got up hastily and followed Amos out. He saw him walking towards Eudoraâs bedroom as he spoke to Auntie Valerie.
âHave you prepared the desserts for this afternoon? She likes cakes.â
Harley looked on in confusion.
He rubbed at his chest slowly, stepping back in sorrow.
âClint, my heart aches! I canât believe that Amos has really become uxorious!â
Clint merely looked at him blankly.
Amos quickly made his way down the stairs. Meanwhile, Harley was leaning against the door, watching him fuss around with a disdainful look on his face.
âAmos, you are no longer my domineering brother! Letâs break off this brotherhood,â he proclaimed dramatically.
Amos huffed a breath, âWhateverâ¦â
Harley choked back a gasp of outrage.
As they were speaking, footsteps could be heard from the stairs. Eudora had just woken up. She looked at Harley, confused, âWhatâs the matter with you guys?â
Harley rushed to Eudora in grief. âEudoraâ¦Â Amos wants to break off his friendship with meâ¦â
Before Harley could even finish his words, Amos had rushed up to them from behind and pushed him aside.
âDonât get too close to Eudora!â
Harley felt like discarded trash at this point.
What was going on? These two were being so weird!
While Amos held Eudoraâs hand and walked her to have dessert, Harley whispered to Clint as he watched the couple, âHave you noticed that Amos has been acting strange recently? Donât you think that heâs being too nice to Eudora?â
Clint thought that Harley was lucky enough to have not seen them be more intimate with each other than he had.
Clint shook his head, looking unsurprised, âNot reallyâ¦â
âReally? Why does it feel like sheâs being guarded like a precious gem or something?â
While they were talking, Amos had come back to them. âIf you two have nothing else to do, you may leave now. Itâs getting too noisy here, affecting our rest.â
âAlright, President Granger, Iâm going back now,â Clint went out of the room as soon as he said so.
As he left, he pulled Harley along with him. Harley kept on looking back at the eating Eudora and became even more curious.
âEudora, I thought that you disliked durians.â
Eudora rolled her eyes at him, âSo what? I like them now. Any problem?â
Harley muttered, âMy mother told me that only pregnant women would start having a strange taste for food!â
As soon as he said that, a pin-drop silence filled the room. He raised his head hurriedly and looked at Amos. Noticing Amosâs calm and composed facade, Harley finally got his answer before Amos uttering a single word.
âEudora⦠Are you really pregnant?â
Eudora merely ignored him. Harley wanted to say something else, but he was silenced by Amosâ hostile glare.
âDo you guys need anything else?â
âAlright, alright! We all know that youâre a loving couple! Now with a second pregnancy⦠I canât believe that you value sex more than friendship!â Harley said bitterly.
After that, Harley turned around and took Clintâs hand in his.
âLetâs go then, Clint. From now on, you shall be my new brother!
Clint looked at him confused.
They were two grown men after all. Holding hands was a bit weird, wasnât it?
