On the third day, Doctor Chilton and others increased the dosage for the medicine again. At that point, Eudora started to realize that something was off.
Although the doctor had already explained to her that she just needed more rest to speed up the recovery, it was impossible for Eudora to not notice anything at all. After all, it was her own body.
At this moment, Amos reached out and patted the top of her head.
âAre you still sleepy?â
Eudora shook her head and answered, âIâve slept well!â However, as soon as she finished speaking, she gave a big yawn.
Thinking about what Doctor Chilton had said earlier, Amos caressed her cheek with his hand and asked, âRemember the delicious beef stew you mentioned the last time? Cindy has already brought it here. Would you like to have some?â
Eudora nodded. She tried to regain her energy and replied, âOkay! Iâd love to have some.â
As expected, Cindy entered the ward as soon as Amos had finished speaking.
She held a pot of beef stew and said, âMrs. Granger, do have some stew before you go to sleep!â
âGive it to me,â Amos took the stew and poured it into the bowl. Then, he took the spoon and fed it to her.
âHow does it taste?â
Eudora took a sip and realized that she could only taste bitterness! It was as though everything had tasted bitter no matter what she ate.
âWhatâs wrong?â Amos asked worriedly.
âOh, itâs nothing!â Eudora shook her head in reply. âItâs so delicious that Iâm savoring it bit by bit!â
âSince you like it, Iâll ask Cindy to bring it over every day!â Amos exclaimed. He then scooped up another spoonful of stew for her.
Eudora couldnât handle the bitterness after a few sips. However, she didnât want Amos to be disappointed, hence she came up with an excuse.
âCould you help me get a towel? Iâll drink it myself.â
Amos placed the spoon down into the bowl and went to the bathroom.
As soon as Amos left, Eudora quickly poured the bowl of stew into the garden behind the window. Then, she lay back on the bed and took the towel from Amosâ hand.
âIâm done with the stew!â
After that, she began to feel sleepy again. Amosâ heart wrenched. Her eyes were teary as she had yawned too much.
He felt as though his heart had been stabbed by a knife.
âWhy donât you rest for a while more?â
Eudora nodded and let Amos tuck her into bed.
His phone rang at this moment. Amos was about to decline the call when Eudora said hurriedly, âI think that you should just answer it! It could be an urgent call for work.â
Amos had been staying in the hospital for the past few days to keep her company. Because of that, much of his work was delayed. Even if there were really urgent matters to attend to, he would always ask Clint to send the documents to the hospital. Not only that, he would refuse to answer any phone calls so that her rest would not be disturbed.
âIâm really fine,â Eudoraâs eyes were gleaming brightly, âIf you donât go to work, Sugar Bun and I are going to be upset!â
Amos sighed and replied, âOkay, Iâll go. Iâll be back soon!â After thinking for a brief moment, he said, âCindy will keep you company.â
âOkay!â Eudora said as she let him tuck her in and watched him walk out of the ward.
Eudora felt drowsy and went instantly went to sleep as soon as the door was closed.
However, she didnât fall into a deep sleep. She could hear Cindyâs footsteps as she did her errands. She also heard Cindy and Doctor Chilton talking to each other.
âIs Mrs. Granger already asleep?â
âYes! Mr. Granger said that we could start after he returns in five minutes!â
She also heard another nurseâs voice saying, âEveryone in the operating theatre is ready! Theyâre just waiting for the patient to be wheeled in.â
Eudoraâs heart skipped a beat. With an unknown source of strength, she instantly opened her eyes.
âWhat did you say? Whoâs going for an operation?â
Everyone didnât expect Eudora to wake up all of sudden. Doctor Chilton didnât know what to say at the spur of the moment. Doctor Leon, who was behind him, tried to ease the situation quickly.
âEudora, you probably just had a dream. Nothingâs happening.â
âStop lying, I heard it all!â Eudora frowned and questioned. âTell me exactly. Whatâs going on? Is Amos aware of this? Did he approve of this?â
This time, even Doctor Leon remained silent.
âEudora, you canât blame Amos. He had no other choice.â
Eudora knew it. Only Amos had the power to approve of this. Her heart sank.
She then remembered the bowl of stew that he had just sent over. She noticed something was off when she drank it. She became very sensitive to the taste of medications since she fell ill frequently when she was young.
The bowl of stew was indeed very tasteless.
However, she thought that it was just one of the side effects of her medication. She did not suspect Amos at allâ¦
âAmos drugged in the stew, didnât he? He wanted to ask them to terminate my pregnancy while I was in a coma!â
Eudora was very agitated. She thought that she had made her stance very clear. Amos had even promised her that he would not broach that topic again.
She had initially thought they had come to an agreement about this matter. Hence, he shouldnât have allowed the doctors to terminate the pregnancy without her permission!
âWhere is Amos? I want to talk to him, why is he doing thisâ¦â
âMrs. Granger, please calm down!â Helen voiced out as she stood beside her.
Helen could tell with her own eyes that Amos was already mentally and physically exhausted. She really couldnât bear to see Eudora misunderstanding him.
Although Amos had instructed them repeatedly to keep the truth from Eudora, she just couldnât help it at that moment.
âMr. Granger came to this decision as it was the best for you. If you donât terminate this pregnancy, both the baby and you might not be saved!â
âHelen!â Doctor Leon shouted and glared at his daughter. âYouâ¦â
Eudora was in shock. She stood by her bed, flabbergasted.
âAre you serious? Am I really that ill?â
Helen pressed her lips together and said nothing more. Doctor Leon tried to ease the tense ambience and explained, âHelen is just messing around. Youâre fineâ¦â
âDoctor Leon! Donât lie to me! I know my body well enough. In fact, Iâve not only been feeling very sleepy these days but my head kept hurting. Not only that, my stomach even hurt when I woke up this morning.â
Doctor Chilton was stunned and he asked, âAre you saying that your stomach is already hurting? Quick! Helen, give her a checkup.â
âHold on!â Eudora covered her stomach and stepped back, âExplain my condition to me right now! I want to know every single detail! I have the right to know my bodyâs condition, donât I?â
Doctor Chilton frowned, âBut Mr. Grangerâ¦â
âWhat he said doesnât count! This is my life! Now, tell me! Just tell me!â
âMiss George, please. Donât make things difficult for usâ¦â
However, Eudora trembled and fell to the ground before he could even finish his words. He didnât know if it was because she was too emotional or because her body had given in.
Fortunately, Cindy managed to quickly catch her from behind before she hit the ground.
Doctor Chilton immediately stepped forward to check on her. In the next moment, his expression turned solemn âThe illness has progressed too rapidly! Quick, arrange for a full-body examination immediately!â
Helen couldnât breathe for a moment. Then she said, âIâll inform Mr. Granger immediately!â
âNo!â Eudora opened her eyes and shook her head in Helenâs direction.
âI donât want anyone to know about this before my examination results are released!â
âButâ¦â
Doctor Leon, who was standing beside her, grabbed Helen and said, âWeâll listen to Eudora!â
Doctor Leon actually had something else on mind. Amos loved Eudora too much. If he knew that something had happened to her, he would definitely not easily let them go. It could even end up as a bloodbath.
Perhaps it would be better to not mention anything about it for the time being. He would decide on the next course of action after the results had been released.
