Eudoraâs heart wavered. Clint had always been a very trustworthy person and wasnât the type who would lie.
But, what about that kidnapping incident?
Eudora smiled bitterly. âI believe that Charlie may have had some unspeakable predicaments, but my father did die because of his actions. Iâll choose to believe so until the pieces of evidence prove otherwise. Besidesâ¦â
Eudora recalled the incident when she was being kidnapped. âIf Charlie had his difficulties, then why did Amosâ men try to kidnap me? I believe what I saw.â
Clint was taken aback. âWhat kidnap?â A thought flashed through Clintâs mind as he recalled Amos looking for those two employees from their company.
âWas it that time? Youâve misunderstood. Those two peopleâ¦â
âForget it!â Eudora shook her head. âThat matter is already over. I know that you guys did it for Charlieâs sake, so I donât blame you guys anymore! Even so, thereâs no reason for me to go back to Amos.â
Amos had his own perseverance and beliefs, and she had her responsibilities and duties.
They must be responsible for their future and could no longer indulge themselves in the love of the past.
â¦
The next morning, while reviewing the documents, Amos asked Clint.
âHowâs the investigation on the Nolan family? Are there any updates?â
Clint shook his head. âTheir accounts and secret arrangements have gone through the hands of several generations, they have perfected it. Itâs difficult to find loopholes at this point!â
Amos nodded and suppressed the anxiety in his heart. âOkay! Go and do your work!â
Clint, however, did not move. He played back the conversation with Eudora last night in his mind. After a good thought the night before, he was contemplating whether to let Amos know.
However, if President Granger knew about the things he had said to Miss George, would he be unhappy?
While he was in a dilemma, Amos asked, âWhat do you want to say?â
âIâ¦â Clint hesitated.
âYou went to find her?â Amos asked nonchalantly.
Amos read his mind. In the past, he disliked guessing what others were thinking. A man in love was indeed terrifying!
Clint nodded. âIâm sorry, President Granger. I did find Miss George and explain several things to her.â
Amos sneered. âItâs no use!â
He had guessed correctly again!
Clint didnât understand this time. âHow would you know that it would be useless? Since when is there such a big misunderstanding between you and Miss George? In fact, Miss George only felt disappointed with Charlieâs mishandling from the beginning. Sheâs never been against you!â
âSheâs not against me, but she still resents me. However, this resentment is not why she wants to be with Fabian, so there are only two possibilities. One is because of the Holt familyâs current situation. If she wants a steady development, the fastest way is to marry Fabian. At least, in the eyes of many elders in the Holt family, it is the best way. Therefore, the marriage between her and Fabian has become her responsibility. I know her well. She has never feared responsibility!â
Clint didnât expect things to turn out that way.
Was this also the reason why Amos didnât go looking for Eudora this time? He had already figured everything out in his mindâ¦
âWhat about the other reason?â
âThe other reason?â Amos smiled bitterly. âItâs possible that Eudora really thinks that Fabian is a good man, isnât it?â Amos thought.
When Amos did not answer, Clint continued hurriedly, âSo, what do you mean by that?â
âLet the Nolan family receive the punishment they deserve!â
Realization dawned on him. No wonder!
Clint nodded but thought of something important. âDidnât you request me to find out who were the two people last time? I found them! Miss George had also mentioned this last night. They seemed to have told Miss George on purpose that you have ordered for her kidnap!â
Amos sneered and put down the documents. âWhere are they? Bring them in!â
Clint felt a chill down his spine as he turned around to leave. After a moment, two haggard looking men entered the room.
As soon as the both of them saw Amos, they knelt down and begged him.
âPresident Granger, please forgive us! We have made a mistake, but we have our own difficulties too! I lost a bet, and if I donât take Mr. Nolanâs money, I may have been killed! Fortunately, Miss was not seriously injured. Please forgive me.â
Amos glared at the two coldly. âIt seems that I have been too easy-going these years!â
Although he said those words without using a harsh or threatening tone, the two men felt an inexplicable fear.
They exchanged glances at each other quickly and saw the horror in each otherâs eyes!
âSir, please spare my life. Sir, the investigation is very strict now. You cannot abuse your powers!â
Amos smiled. âNo. Why should I abuse my power for people like you? Valiant East is not a place like the Nolan Group that will deliberately lure people to owe a high debt of gambling and then force people to do things for them!â
The both of them froze. âSir, do you mean that the Nolan family isâ¦â
One of the men suddenly came to his senses. âDonât you remember? We werenât gambling anymore, but later a man appeared and kept trying to persuade us. Isnât that man from the Nolan family?â
In hindsight, the two of them gritted their teeth and said, âDespicable! They are too despicable! Sir, thank you for telling us everything!â
âThereâs no need to thank me!â Amos chuckled. He then turned to look at the wooden stick that he had already asked his men to prepare. âDo it yourself.â
Both of them glanced at it and turned pale instantly. âSir, we admit our mistakes. Please spare usâ¦â
âClint!â Amos didnât bother to listen to their nonsense. âGive them thirty seconds. If they arenât willing to do it themselves, ask someone to help them. Itâs time to quit their gambling habits!â
The two of them trembled as regrets filled their hearts.
When they first joined Valiant East, they had heard about Amosâ ruthlessness. Any rivals who offended him would not have a good ending.
At first, they had also been careful out of fear. However, in the past few years, Amos seemed to have turned over a new leaf. He was no longer as cold-hearted, so they let down their guard.
Now it seemed that he hadnât changed at all, it was just that no one had crossed the line!
While in their thoughts, Clint had already lifted the stopwatch and began the countdown.
âFive, four, threeâ¦â
Both of them felt a tight knot in their chest and ran hastily to attach the ropes on the wooden sticks to their arms.
To their surprise, the rope was an open-knot. They could slide into the rope with ease, but they didnât expect it to tighten until their arms became numb.
However, they dared not move. They were afraid that Amos would not spare their lives.
Amos witnessed them getting tied up for the whole day. By the time their arms turned purple from the lack of blood flow, Amos finally stood up and was ready to get off work.
When Clint saw this, he stepped forward and asked, âWhat should these twoâ¦â
Amos stopped and glanced back at them. âOh, I almost forgot. Let them go!â
Both of them were delighted. The next second, Amos added, âThe arm punishment is good enough, but as Valiant Eastâs employees, they betrayed the company and kidnapped a person. I suspected that there is something shady between them and the Nolan Group. You can send them to the police station directly and report them!â
Both of them fell speechless and passed out with their numbed arms.
