The first few were calls from Thea, but the ones after were all from Eudora.
And Eudoraâs last voicemail roared angrily, âYour wife is about to give birthâ¦â
Harley was shocked. He couldnât wait any longer and rushed into his supervisorâs office to ask for leave.
Moments later, he dashed out of the police station.
The apartment was not far from his workplace. When he rushed to the lobby, he saw Eudora standing on the side of the road with Thea in her arms.
Despite her thin figure, Eudora was holding Thea in her arms while carrying a big maternity pack behind her.
Harley was stunned. He ran over to Thea instantaneously.
âTheaâ¦â
Thea was already scared out of her wits. It was her first time giving birth, and she was extremely nervous. In addition to that, she couldnât get through to her husband during such a critical moment.
Harley reached out his hand to take over Thea and smoothed out her hair that had been stuck on her forehead because of sweat.
âItâs okay, Iâm here now!â
âHoney!â Thea couldnât help but cry as soon as Harley held her in his arms.
Eudora looked at the two of them and felt more relieved instantly.
Just as she was in thoughts, the ambulance arrived. Eudora followed them to the hospital in a hurry. As soon as they reached the hospital, Thea was brought into the delivery room.
While waiting outside of the delivery room, Eudora could hear that the situation inside gradually stabilised. Only then did she recall her own problem.
It would be the wedding ceremony the next day, was she really going to continue on like this?
Eudora was still lost in her thoughts when Harley turned to look at her. He disliked what Eudora had done to Amos, but he could still understand why Amos liked her so much.
She was a sweet, yet cool person; she was someone who could show her weak side with the right person, yet she was strong-willed when the situation called for it.
And she was just right for Amos, that proud and arrogant man. There was no one else that could make him fall head over heels apart from her.
âWhat happened todayâ¦â Harley was about to speak.
Eudora stood up. âI didnât mean to approach you guys deliberately. I know that we arenât in the best of terms, but with Thea like this, I had to comeâ¦â
âThank you!â Harley cut her off.
Eudora paused. âWhat?â
âI said⦠Thank you!â Harley was sincere. If something were to happen to Thea today all because of him not picking up his phone, he would never forgive himself!
âFine, Iâll accept your gratitude!â Eudora said.
Harley looked at her speechlessly, and then he remembered that he had seen her on the streets by the suburbs that day.
âWhy didnât you go to the suburbs to experience life today?â he asked.
Eudora fell speechless.
Harley was being a jerk as usual. However, his words seemed to have reminded her of somethingâ¦
Eudora studied Harley seriously then her eyes lit up. âYes, if I want to investigate Fabian, isnât Harley the best candidate?â she thought.
However, Harley was a stubborn man when it comes to some things because of his profession. Could she trust him or not?
âWhy are you looking at me like that?â Harley questioned, a little agitated. He had just said thank you to her, but now he couldnât help but feel a little scared when she was staring at him like that.
âHarley!â Eudora began, âYou thanked me for saving Thea, right? Then, you owe me a favor!â
Harley frowned. âI guess!â
âWhat does that mean? You already owed me a favor before! I need you to help me with something now. If itâs done, then weâll be even! But you have to promise me, only you and I can know of this. Before Iâm sure of what to do, you canât make any decisions by yourself! Can you promise me that? Not even Amos can know about this.â
Harley looked at Eudora curiously. âWhat on earth do you want to do?â
âJust tell me if you agree with my terms! For Thea!â
Harley took a deep breath and muttered, âI knew you were up to no good!â
However, even though he had said so, he nodded and agreed.
âWhat do you want me to do?â
Eudora did not answer him. Instead, she took out the evidence in her bag and handed it to Harley. âTake a look!â
Harley paused. âThis⦠Where did you get this from? Is it credible?â
Eudora raised her hand to stop him immediately. âKeep your voice down. Didnât I just tell you? You canât tell anyone without my permission. This information has nothing to do with you, do you understand?â
âI donât understand! I only know that the Nolan family has been doing things that harms the people for the sake of profit. As a policeman, I must arrest him!â
âI know you want to arrest Fabian, but now is not the time for that, isnât it? With these, even if itâs true, will you be able to convict him? Calm down, okay?â
Harley took a deep breath and asked, âCan I believe you? Or are you in it too with Fabian?â
âHarley!â Eudora paused. âIf you think thatâs the case, then forget it. I have nothing else to say to you!â
Saying that, she was about to take her things away when Harley grabbed onto the documents.
âIâll help you! Tell me, what should I do?â
Only then did Eudora smile. âYou said that yourself. I think you should go and investigate first. Is the information in this true? The most important thing is to find out the real reason behind my fatherâs death.â
After hearing that, Harley glanced at Eudora.
âHuh, so you are not stupid! Now you know that it has nothing to do with Amos, right?â
Eudora turned her head. âI donât know yet, Iâm just hoping that youâll look into it!â
âOkay!â Harley took all the documents over.
âOne night, I only have one night.â
Harley nodded and looked at the operating room behind him with reluctance. âHelp me take good care of Thea.â
âOf course!â Eudora answered. Harley then strode out of the hospital.
After Harley left, Eudora sat back in her chair and fixed her eyes on the delivery room.
As time passed, and Eudora felt more and more uneased.
â¦
At the same time, in the branch office of Valiant East.
Amos was standing in front of the window, watching the street lights outside.
Clint entered the office and reported in a low voice, âThere seems to be no result from the things that youâve handed over to Mr. Louis to investigate.â
Amos closed his eyes. âIt looks like Iâve underestimated my enemy.â
Fabian was indeed not an easy person to deal with.
As the clock slowly marched past midnight, Clint hesitated and tried to persuade him, âSir, itâs getting late. Why donât you take a rest?â
Amos looked at the time and murmured in a low voice.
âToday is the day!â
Clint was stunned. âWhat?â
âNothing! The people Iâve told you to look for, are they ready?â
Clint nodded. âEverything is ready.â
