Eudora received a phone call from Leslie the next day, saying that he found a lot of suitable office buildings and wanted Eudora to have a look.
She had woken up much earlier that day.
She decided to mentally prepare herself for possible rejections. However, the assistance she received was a completely different experience.
Everyone was extremely polite to her.
For starters, a man was already waiting for her by the entrance when she arrived.
He took the initiative to greet her.
âMiss George?â
Eudora glanced at her watch and realized that it was only 7 a. m. Thinking that the landlord might not come so early, she mentally prepared herself to wait.
However, this man proved to her that they work early too.
Eudora raised her eyebrows and thought, âWell, for starters, thatâs impressive.â
The man then began to serve fruits, desserts, and refreshments on the table.
âMiss George, thank you for coming in so early today. Please have some food before we view the building.â
Eudora looked at the spread of food in front of her in suspicion.
âDo you know me?â Eudora asked suspiciously.
The man immediately waved his hand and said, âNo, I donât think so!â
âYou know Amos then,â she confirmed. The only reason she could think of that would warrant such special treatment was Amosâ high-profile reputation.
The man tried his best to deny it again.
âI donât know you, and I donât know him. Weâre just trying to lease a building. We donât know anybody!â
âJust admit it, you know Amos.â
The guy was almost in tears, âMiss George, please donât put words in my mouth. President Grangerâs Assistant Zuckerberg had gathered everyone keens on leasing a building in Rosaville City for a meeting. He said that President Grangerâs wife, Miss George, would come to rent a house, and we were told to assist you accordingly.â
Truth be told, he didnât think anyone would be able to take advantage of such an intelligent woman anyway.
However, there was nothing he could do about it since President Granger was known to dote on his wife.
Eudora was speechless.
âWell, itâs just that, you are completely different from the landlord whom Iâve met last time. I felt that I was much more approachable all of a sudden.â
Leslie, who was standing behind her, pursed his lips and said, âMiss Eudora, if you are not happy with this one, I will go and find another.â
âItâs okay, Iâll take a look first!â
The guy stood up excitedly, âShall we take a look at it then? Do you not want these desserts? President Granger had someone delivered them here for you early this morning. He said that itâs all your favorites.â
Eudora was startled. Amos had gone too far.
â¦
However, she realized that all the landlordâs attitudes towards her were very similar after viewing the buildings. They were all too nice. Eudora was not interested at all.
She eventually left the place in disappointment.
Leslie pursed his lips and said, âThereâs still one left. Are we still going?â
âYes. Letâs!â After all, it was the last one.
When they arrived, Eudora realized that the place that they were about to view was in Valiant East itself.
The location was quite appropriate and convenient too.
However, this place belonged to the Granger family.
She once heard that Valiant East was painstakingly built by Old Master Granger when he was still a young man. At that time, they hired the best designers and spent several years building it. It was one of the landmarks of Rosaville City.
Moreover, Valiant East was an empire and their projects were neverending.
Eudora had been to this building before, and every floor was occupied.
However, there were now two empty floors without any reason at all. Was it Amos who purposely cleared it to make it hers?
Leslie, who was next to her, murmured, âMiss Eudora, this place is very suitable. Why donât we settle here then? It seems that President Granger is doing this out of good intentions. You must not be angry with him.â
Eudora shook her head, âIâm not.â
Why would she be angry at someone who treated her so well? However, she had promised to take care of Amos for the rest of her life, but in the end, she still needed Amosâ help.
Taking a deep breath, Eudora waved her hand.
âUncle Clarke, you should head back and wait for my notice. Iâll go up and have a look.â
Eudora went straight to the top floor once Leslie left. Clint was already waiting outside as soon as she stepped out of the elevators.
âMrs. Granger, youâre here?â
Clint wasnât the only one. The rest of the employees too were enthusiastic when they saw Eudora.
âGood morning, Mrs. Granger.â
Eudora felt a chill down her back and she asked Clint in a low voice, âWhatâs going on here?â
Clint whispered, âItâs not a big deal. But President Granger has sent out photos of you to every employee in the company on your wedding day so that they will know that you are lady boss of the Granger family. Therefore, they all know you.â
Eudora was shocked.
Amos seemed hopeless when it came to staying low-profile.
Eudora followed Clint into Amosâ office. She settled on the couch when she noticed a glass of milk on the table.
Amos came over soon after and sat next to her. He reached out and touched the glass of milk.
âThe temperature is just nice. Have a sip.â
Eudora pursed her lips, âIâm not hungry.â
âYou havenât eaten anything since this morning.â
Eudora was dumbfounded. He knew about that too. Eudora couldnât help but wonder if Amos had installed any surveillance cameras around her.
She drank the milk in a gulp and asked, âWhat happened to the two floors below?â
âOh! They housed a new department in the past. It was removed because it wasnât working well. If you like it, you could move in there.â
Clint rolled his eyes. How could that be? Valiant East would always spend a lot of time and energy evaluating the market before doing any kind of project. The percentage for them failing a project was practically zero.
The two floors were obviously moved to other places at Amosâ request.
Although it was not a big deal to move them away, it was still a bit too much for Amos to come up with such an excuse.
Eudora obviously didnât believe it, âDonât lieâ¦â
Clint snickered. Mrs. Granger had always been a force to be reckoned with. He wondered what kind of excuse would President Granger come up with?
The next second, Amos had admitted his mistake honestly.
âIâm sorry, Iâm lying. I wonât do it again.â
Clint was bewildered.
Was he not even planning to put up a fight?
Eudora sighed, âForget it, Iâm probably too stupid. Maybe Daddy really did misjudge the situation! I donât know how the Holt Familyâs assets would end up if I were to handle them after this.â
After a short pause, she said hesitantly, âAbout the promiseâ¦â
âItâs fine. Iâll take care of you for the rest of my life,â Amos said.
Eudora shook her head, âNo, I just want to say that the plan might get delayed. I have to work hard for you and the children.â
âOkay then!â Amos smiled.
âThen⦠I look forward to working with you in the future, Mr. Granger!â Eudora said with a smile.
