The shareholders were all stunned by Sebastianâs yelling.
They did not want to risk provoking Sebastian as well, unless it was absolutely necessary. Besides, they had already discussed it beforehand. As long as the Valiant East Group recovered, their shares would rise too!
Nick, who was the head of this group of shareholders, spoke out to defuse the situation, âLetâs not get too hasty, everyone. Itâs easy for internal conflicts to happen if we start panicking. Our main focus was originally to build up this company; if we were to start arguing with each other, wouldnât things get ugly? That wouldnât be good!â
After Nick finished speaking, the rest of them started echoing in agreement too.
âYes, yes! We had gotten too anxious! The company is indeed currently not looking too well now, but itâs not as if it has hit rock bottom. Itâs just a transitional period between different generations of employees now, so some difficulties are inevitable. Itâs fine!â
âThatâs right! All is well; weâre all confident that President Granger can get through this!â
After a whole round of flattery, Sebastianâs rage went down slightly.
He and the shareholders shared a complementary relationship, so he was not that stupid to directly provoke them. He had been too angry just now.
Now that someone had come out to smooth things over, Sebastian went with the flow to get out of the awkward situation.
âThat was my bad. I made everyone worry.â
âItâs okay, no worries at all! As long as the company is doing fine, we will be fine!â
Sebastian furrowed his brows as he responded, âDonât worry. Since I have the ability to take over the company, naturally I have the confidence to manage it well. Give me three daysâ time, then Iâll give all of you a proper response!â
Only then did the crowd leave.
Once they were gone, Sebastian furiously smashed the ashtray.
âEudora George, Iâve really underestimated you!â
He turned around and looked at Harper, âContact Eudora, and tell her Iâd like to invite her for a meal!â
â¦
Up in the mountains.
When Eudora woke up in the morning, she saw Tina busily doing woodwork at the door. There was a lot of wood right next to her.
âWhat are you doing?â Eudora asked curiously.
Tina wiped the sweat off her face.
She answered in a crisp voice, âMaking a swing set! Eudora, youâre awake? Breakfast is already done. My cooking skills still arenât that great yet, so I made something easy. Just have a simple meal! Iâll learn how to cook from you next time, is that okay?â
Seeing her so full of energy, Eudora smiled and nodded.
âSounds good!â
As she was speaking, Tina picked up another piece of wood. Christopher stretched out his hand to help, but Tina stopped him.
âDonât move, didnât you agree to me taking care of you? Besides, your wound hasnât recovered yet! I can assemble this swing set myself!â
Eudora asked with sudden realization, âYou wanted a swing?â
Tina pursed her lips, âNo, itâs for Christopher!â
Confusion was written all over Eudoraâs face.
Christopher, who was standing beside Tina, nodded, with a doting smile on his face. His gaze was fixed on her the entire time.
Eudora immediately understood, and stopped saying anything.
Their way of getting along with each other was pretty nice too!
When she entered the kitchen, the table had been laid out with plain congee, two dishes of preserved vegetables, and a somewhat yellowish plain steamed bun.
Although the meal did not look very appetizing, it was definitely much better than Tinaâs previous attempt when the kitchen had been burnt down.
Eudora grinned, and ate with the two kids until they were full. They then went out of the house.
The swing set was already assembled. With excitement and anticipation evident in her eyes, Tina went over to Christopher and suggested, âWhy donât you try it out? Do you like it?â
Christopher went up and sat on it, âItâs excellent.â
Then, he patted the seat next to him and said, âYou come and sit down too.â
âIâm not going to sit!â Tina shook her head and declined his invitation. âIâm going to tidy up the things, then get ready to prepare the ingredients for lunch!â
âThereâs no need to rush. After all, itâs still early!â Christopher quickly said.
âItâs not early anymore! Iâm slow and not that skilled, so I need to start earlier.â
Christopher had no choice but to groan and hold his abdomen, saying, âWhy does my stomach suddenly hurt?â
Tina immediately put aside everything else, and anxiously rushed to take a look at Christopher. She asked, âWhere does it hurt? Did your wound get irritated? Iâll go get the medical kit for youâ¦â
âNo!â Christopher grabbed her and said, âItâs much better now. Itâs just that I suddenly want to read a book. However, my arm has been raised for too long, so now itâs feeling a bit sore. Can you read for me?â
âOkay!â Tina nodded, âWhat book do you want?â
âThe book about the Notre Dame Cathedral which you mentioned to me last time; didnât you say that it was really nice? I remember that you still havenât finished it yet!â
âOkay!â Tina went to search for it, with a smile plastered on her face.
Just in time, Charlie came in.
He asked, âIâm going down the mountain later. Should I buy any food back?â
Eudora immediately shot a glance at Christopher, saying, âMr. Gellert is the patient here, so ask him what he would like to eat!â
Christopher thought for a moment and replied, âLetâs buy some pork ribs and make some sweet and sour pork ribs. Get a crucian carp to make some steamed fish, and some baby cabbage. Cooking it with garlic would be nice.â
Eudora raised a brow at him, âSince when did your taste become so bland?â
She remembered that Christopher used to only eat spicy dishes!
âPeople have to change their preferences sometimes! Alright, just those then!â
Charlie noted them down on a list and asked, âShould I go ask Miss Tina too?â
âNo need!â Eudora shook her head. âJust go and buy those!â
It was because those foods were exactly what Tina liked to eat! Seeing the both of them being so considerate of each other, Eudoraâs heart became at ease.
When Charlie came back in the afternoon, he brought with him some news too.
âMadam, Sebastian said that he would like to have a meal with you.â
âOh? Just tell him that thereâs no need for that. If thereâs anything, it can be discussed after a monthâs time!â
Christopher was confused, âHavenât you been waiting for him to yield to you? Why donât you want to see him this time?â
Eudora shook her head, âHow could someone like Sebastian yield so easily? I donât believe it. Heâs obviously realized that his harsh methods arenât working, so he wants to try reasoning it out with me. If I show up but donât give him the formula, he might use something against me and say some nonsense. Iâd rather not meet with him if that turns out to be the case!â
Reality proved Eudoraâs assumption to be correct.
After Sebastian took the initiative to invite Eudora for dinner but did not receive any response, on the next day, he started babbling nonsense to the media.
When Eudora woke up early in the morning, she saw that she had appeared on the news headlines.
âScheming Woman Escapes with Family Secret, Plunges In-laws into Indignity, All for Wealth and Inheritance!â was written as the title.
In conclusion, the article talked about how she had taken over every possession belonging to her husband after his death, with no regard for her in-laws, and ran away with the familyâs secret recipe.
Judgment towards her was laced in every single line. Eudora briefly glanced at it, then put down the newspaper and continued eating.
Tina cast a worried look at Eudora, âEudora, are you alright?â
Eudora bit into a steamed bun, âYouâve improved a lot, as todayâs steamed bun isnât as yellow.â
Tina was speechless.
âEudora, are you really alright?!â
âWhat possibly could be wrong with me? What heâs saying isnât the truth anyways. Besides, I already knew that he was going to do this. So, donât worry, if he can speak up about this, so can I. Your sister has already prepared a lot of amazing things. I was just concerned that he wouldnât cause trouble, then I wouldnât have a chance to carry out my plans!â
