Nelson pursed his lips and said, âI just donât want you to quarrel with your parents! Iâd never stayed with my parents since I was a child, therefore I cherish familial relationships a lot!â
Naomi understood where he was coming from. Before she was five years old, she had also never lived with Amos either.
She paused for a while.
âThank you for what you did just now!â
Nelson said, âYouâre welcome! As long as you lead a good life in the future, I will be at ease!â
After that, he turned around and left. Naomi stared at his back blankly for a long time.
Benedict came after her and called her.
âNaomi, what are you looking at? Who was that?â
Naomi came to her senses and replied, âHe was the person who helped us out just now. I was thanking him.â
Benedict asked skeptically, âWhy did he help us out? Do you know him?â
Naomi pursed her lips.
Then, she quickly changed the subject, âI like the event, itâs fascinating. Thank you for your invitation. Iâm going home!â
âThe event isnât over yet!â Benedict tried to persuade her to stay.
âIâve seen all the things that Iâm interested in, though. Letâs call it a day!â
âFine!â Benedict was a little disappointed. However, he would always respect Naomiâs decisions.
âIâll walk you home. Itâs been a long time since Iâve seen Uncle Amos and Auntie Eudora. I heard from my mother a few days ago that she wants to travel with Auntie Eudora for a while. Do you know about that?â
Naomi was taken aback and asked, âDoes she really?â
âYes! My parents have booked their airline tickets. I bet your parents will be going too!â
Naomi pursed her lips. Her parents had never brought this matter up before.
â¦
Meanwhile, in Clearwater Bay.
Eudora was resting whereas Amos was preparing their luggage.
âWe will be there for a week. Itâs cold over there, so you have to take the necessities with you.â
Eudora replied lazily, âArenât you going too? Iâd be more rest assured if you come along!â
Hearing her words, Amos felt exasperated yet happy at the same time.
âThen, you must follow me closely.â
Eudora suddenly said, â If we just leave like this, what about Naomi? Why donât we ask her to go with us?â
Amos was still upset about the fact that Naomi had hurt Eudora.
Upon hearing Eudoraâs suggestion, his voice became a little cold.
He insisted, âI think itâs better for her to calm down for a while. Since she has just broken up with Nelson, let her wallow in her sadness for a while. Weâve never forced her to do anything throughout these yearsâ¦â
Although Eudora was reluctant to leave Naomi behind, she felt that Amosâ words were quite reasonable. After all, children had to grow up themselves. Oneâs parents could only be there to encourage their children to become more independent so that they could take care of themselves in the future.
âThen, Iâll leave her a note!â
â¦
When Benedict arrived at Clearwater Bay with Naomi, he received a phone call from Harley as soon as he got out of the car.
âWeâre leaving, so take care of yourself and the goldfish raised by your mother. Remember to change the water and feed it daily. If it dies, I will not spare you!â
Benedict let out a sigh and followed Naomi into the house. Then, he started, âNaomi, my parentsâ¦â
As he trailed off, he noticed that Naomi was staring dazedly at a letter in her hand.
It was a note that Eudora had left for her with a few lines on it.
â-Iâm going out with your father. Take good care of yourself at home and donât make me worried. Donât miss us too much!â
Benedict pursed his lips and said, âIt seems that your parents have gone on the trip too.â
After a slight pause, his eyes lit up again.
âNaomi, why donât I move in and stay with you for a few days? I can take you to work every day! I can also pick you up in the evenings when you get off workâ¦â
Naomi immediately refused his offer, âNo, I donât want to live with a kid. Besides, donât you need to take care of Auntie Theaâs fish?â
Truth be told, Benedict was just joking. After all, that goldfish was his motherâs current precious treasure.
If it really died, Harley would also not let him get away with it, even more so Thea!
Benedict sighed and said, âCanât you comfort me just like the way you did when we were children? I wonât mind even if you told me a little white life!â
Naomi shook her head and said, âI canât do that anymore! When you were a child, those were just harmless white lies. Now that youâve grown up, if I were to lie to you again, then Iâd really be tricking you!â
Benedict continued to stand there in dejection for a while before leaving.
â¦
For the next few days, Naomi would go to work from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. every day. Occasionally, she would receive photos from Eudora, telling her they were having a good time.
Naomi also felt happy for them. She pondered, âIsnât that how everyone is like? We all want to live a good and relaxing life in the future. Isnât that the reason why we work so hard when weâre young?â
While putting down the phone, Cynthia came to remind her again.
âPlease donât conduct too many personal activities when youâre working. Furthermore, if Iâm not mistaken, you havenât completed any projects yet. The deadline for your probation period is around the corner. If you still canât finish anything by then, then I can only act according to the companyâs policy!â
Naomi closed her eyes in perturbation and said to her, âI know. Iâll work hard!â
After Cynthia left, she took a deep breath. She had wasted too much time recently, hence she should work harder from now on.
Although her parents were not in the company for the time being, Naomi was still the daughter of Amos Granger and Eudora George.
As they were such exemplary people, she couldnât bring disgrace upon them.
After regaining her focus, she once again engrossed herself into her work.
In the afternoon, she analyzed all the remaining projects that she had. In the end, she picked out three of them and studied them more carefully.
After that, she devoted her time to making proposals.
It was not until almost eleven oâclock at night that Naomi stood up and got ready to return home. She walked towards the companyâs exit only to find that the door had been locked.
It was the first time working overtime, hence she had forgotten to inform the guards.
When she wanted to take her phone to make a call, she found that it had run out of battery.
She had no other option but to go back to her desk and continue her work.
After an entire night of working, she felt weary, beginning to feel dizzy and light-headed. However, since she had to visit clients to present her proposals on the next day, she no longer had the time to take her health into account.
She simply changed her clothes and washed up before heading straight to meet her clients.
Although she had come from Valiant East, she had not built up her own reputation. In addition, she was a novice. Despite being well-prepared, she still got rejected in the end.
By the time she had finished meeting the third client, afternoon had already arrived and it was drizzling.
Naomi walked with frustration in the rain. After a few steps, she received a call from Cindy.
âMiss Naomi, Iâm sorry. I have something to do today, so I wonât head home tonight. Iâve already prepared some food for you at home. Remember to eat it. Iâll come back tomorrow night!â
Naomi nodded and tried her best to muster up her strength.
âOkay!â
However, her headache seemed to have worsened. As her voice trailed off, she subconsciously touched her forehead as she started to feel cold.
Despite feeling woozy, she still tried to walk forwards. Unfortunately, she blacked out all of a sudden, falling to the ground.
