NOAH
The walk home is silent. I only noticed Abby was sleeping when I heard her snore lightly. She must've been really tired or maybe I just give good piggy back rides. Yeah I'll take the last one.
I walk up the porch and to my house. I don't want to tell her mum she fell and sprained her ankle and that it was my fault. I'd rather handle Abby myself.
It's just me at home which makes it even better. I carry her into the house and take her upstairs to my room. Which is a lot of work because Abby isn't actually so 'light'.
I slowly and carefully place her on my bed, so as not to wake her up. I smile a bit when I see how peaceful she looks.
I go back downstairs to get a pack of ice from the fridge and head back up. I take her shoes off and then her socks. I wince when I see how red it is. I place the ice pack on her ankle and she jitters a bit so I look up at her. Her brows crease, showing how disturbed she is.
I'm so stupid for scaring her like that. What was I thinking? Now I got her leg busted and she can barely walk. I sit next to her with a sigh escaping my lips. This is all my fault.
I stare longingly at her face, watching it and carefully outlining all the features of it. How her eyelashes settled perfectly on her eyelids, why am I just noticing how long they are?. My eyes move to her nose and I chuckle a bit, remembering our past memories in fifth grade where she had a booger hanging loosely on it and so everyone called her booger girl. I made sure the name didn't last till next week.
She might think I don't remember anything from our past but I do. I haven't forgotten and I never will. I could never.. she's so special, even if she doesn't know it.
I let my fingers trace her hairline as I study the freckles on her face. She didn't like them at a time, thought it made her weird. But I just thought it made her different. Just her hair could single her out from any crowd. Ginger.. Ginger..
I frown recalling that buzz cut kid and when he called her Ginger. I don't like that.. I don't like him being around her or making her giggle and shit. I want her to have other friends but not just him. I'm not jealous, don't get me wrong.. I just don't think he has good intentions towards her. I don't want him to hurt her.
I look back at the ice pack, it was starting to melt on the bed. So I pick it up then head back downstairs to get another pack. I go back upstairs with a new ice pack, walking slowly into the room so Abby won't wake up.
I take a look at her ankle before placing the new one on her leg causing her to twitch a little. The swelling on her ankle isn't as bad as it was before.. or am I just sugarcoating things?.
I sigh walking to the bathroom. I open the cabinet and search for an ointment. I pick the tube once I see it then walk back into the room. I take out the ice drying her leg with the sleeve of my hoodie before applying the ointment on her leg. I do it gently, trying my best not to wake her up.
I look up and when I see her eyes twitching I stop. Please don't wake up.. please don't wake up.. Abby stirs on the bed before settling to lie on her left side. I let out a sigh of relief not just because she didn't wake up but because she didn't lie on the right side where her ankle's busted.
I put the blanket over her and leave the room turning the lights off.
I walk out the house and to Abby's. Seems like she's going to sleep over so I might as well just tell her mum.
I place a knock on the door and wait for a while before Mrs Flenory opens the door.
"Hi Abby's mum", I say like my fifth grade self.
"Hi Noah, Abby's not-", I stop her from going any further.
"I know she's at my place", I say and she nods.
"Oh okay", she says then waits expectantly for me to say what I'm doing here.
"I just wanted to tell you she's sleeping over", I say and her eyes widen slightly at the statement, almost unnoticeable.
"Oh well she.. that's odd, she didn't inform me", she says. Well that makes both of us Mrs Flenory.
"She'll probably call you later", I say and she shakes her head.
"No I don't think so she never takes her phone with her", she says and I raise a brow.
"Why's that?", I ask feeling intrigued. Who doesn't take their phone everywhere with them? I literally take it to the toilet.
"She says no one ever calls or texts her so she sees no use in carrying it around all the time", she says and I nod slowly. So all this time she never had a phone with her? Of course, why would I know.. I'm the one who never texts her back. Ugh.
"Okay she could use my phone", I say and she nods.
"Is your mum around?", she asks and with the look in her eyes I could tell she wouldn't trust me with Abby alone.
"Yes", I answer and she nods feeling more relieved.
"Okay then.. tell your mum I said hi", she says with a small smile and I nod returning the little smile back.
And with that I start walking back to my house and to Abby.
Abby
I blink repeatedly stirring on the bed.. wait bed? My eyes shoot open and I look around. Black window blinds, TV screen, jersey hanging on a frame and most importantly I can see my room from across.. I'm in his room. What the heck am I doing here?.
I take the sheets off me and try to get down from the bed when I feel a sharp pain on my leg. Ouch, I almost forgot.. I fell last night.
I take a look at my ankle. It isn't too swollen any more but it still hurts. I slowly get up with the help of the bed. I limp to the door and then stop when I hear a voice and footsteps coming through the hallway. I limp to the bathroom closing the door behind me.
The bedroom door opens and I hear Noah walk in, "Look dude, I can't make it.. I'm busy", I hear him say and I assume he's on the phone with someone. "Yeah I thought so too but something came up so I can't make it".
Wait, today's Saturday? So I slept till the next day?! No wonder I'm so hungry. Should have taken a bite out of something before I slept. Please that something means food, I'm not cannibalistic.
"Princess?", he calls out and it's so sudden that it makes me jerk backwards and I end up hitting an open cabinet causing a few things to fall out including his expensive perfume.
I gasp loudly when it lands on the floor and shatters into pieces. The bathroom door flings opens and Noah rushes in looking scared.
"Princess are you okay?", he asks as his eyes search my face.
"No- I mean yes but you're perfume isn't", I say wincing at the damage I've caused. His eyes move to the floor then back at me. "I'm sorry".
He sighs, "It's okay. I thought something happened to you", he says walking to me slowly. "C'mon ", he says and I start to limp to the door.
"You still can't walk?", he asks and I shake my head.
"No it's fine I can manage", I say still limping. I'm taken aback when Noah walks up to me and picks me up.
"Noah!", I yell but he doesn't mind me he just carries me to the bed and places me on it. "I said I can manage", I tell him.
"It's my fault you sprained your ankle, let me help", he says and I sigh not knowing how else to argue with him. "Does it still hurt a lot?", he asks putting my legs on the bed.
"A bit..", I trail looking how worried he is.
"Want anything? A pillow, water?", he asks
"It's fine.. I'm not a baby", I say picking my socks and shoes up.
"You're not.. but your my baby", he says and I cough. "Are you okay?", he asks and I nod.
"Need water?", he asks.
"Water will be fine", I say and he leaves the room. What's with the compliment this morning? Does he wanna kill me?.
Noah comes back in with a glass of water handing it to me. I take it thanking him then barely take a sip from it before placing it down on the nightstand. I didn't really need the water I just needed air that he wasn't in. Once I'm done putting my shoes on I look back up at him.
"So..", I trail, "I guess I'll be going home now", I say trying to get up but he stops me.
"No.. I mean take a shower first", he says then adds, "Or you could call your mum and tell her you're okay", he says then weirdly smiles so I narrow my eyes at him but then my eyes widen when his words sink in. My mum..
"Oh my God I totally forgot to call her, she must be so worried-".
"It's okay, I talked to her last night", he says cutting me off and I relax but not fully.
"What'd you tell her?", I ask.
"I didn't tell her you fell", he says and I sigh.
"I'd rather just go home", I say and he nods.
"Okay.. I'll help you up", he says then puts a hand on my waist so I move away. He puts his hands up. "Sorry",
My face turns red in embarrassment. He's literally gonna take that the wrong way. I just didn't want him to feel my flabs when he touched me.
"Uh.. it's fine", I manage to say lowering my head in shame. Oh God, I need to get out of here.
I help myself up and Noah awkwardly stretches his hand to me and I awkwardly take it not meeting his eyes cause I'm so ashamed.
He helps me get out of the room and down the stairs.
"Could you wait here so I can get my keys?", he asks and I raise a brow.
"For what?", I ask then regret it because it's literally non of my business if he wants to go somewhere else.
"So I can drop you off", he says casually and I pause.
"I'm not crippled Noah!", I exclaim and he rolls his eyes.
"I know but like I said let me help you okay?", he raises a brow and I sigh. "C'mon princess, you can grumble later", he says just as I start murmuring to myself.
Noah helps me down the porch and into his car before getting in and driving to my house. This is so weird.
He stops the car and now I can proudly say this is the shortest carpool ever.
He gets down then rushes to get the door open for me. He helps me get down then helps me up my porch to the front door.
"I can take it from here", I say and he nods watching me. "Uh bye..", I say before awkwardly limping in.
"Abby?", I hear my mum say from the kitchen.
"I'm back", I say trying to stand properly.
"Why didn't you tell me you were sleeping over at Noah's house and you wore this to a sleepover?", she questions looking at my outfit and I shrug.
She narrows her eyes at me then says, "When Noah came I wanted to go get you but since he said his mum was around-", I cut her off.
"His mum?", I ask.
"Yeah wasn't Carmen around?", she asks. Well I did sleep till the next day so I actually wouldn't know.
"Uh yeah she was", I say and she nods.
"Okay, so have you had breakfast yet?", she asks.
"No I'm actually starving", I say.
"Odd for Carmen to let you go on an empty stomach", she says walking back to the kitchen.
"She uh.. I think she stepped out this morning", I say starting to think Noah told her something else.
"Oh", she simply says putting the kettle on the burner.
"I'll just go freshen up", I say slowly moving to the stairs. Wonder how long I'm gonna keep this up.
I make it to my bedroom successfully and I crash on my bed with a sigh. Now that I'm alone without any assistance I'm putting all the blame on him. Thanks for the busted leg Noah.
