Logan’s POVMy heart stopped beating when I saw Emma fall to her knees.“Emma!” Anna, Andrew, and I screamed at the same time.I tried to get to her, but the force of her magic kept me away. There was a vortex of wind and fire around her. It looked like she was trapped in the eye of a tornado.“Emma!” I screamed again as I tried to push through.All my efforts were useless. Her magic kept me away from her. I could feel my heartbeat in my throat. My stomach felt like an endless pit of fear. The feeling made my knees go weak and I almost fell.“Fuck!” Andrew screamed as he too tried to get to her.The vortex of wind and fire created a sound that made my ears hurt. It was like standing in the middle of a thunderstorm. Leon’s growling only made it worse. My ears felt like they were bleeding.I could see Andrew’s mouth moving, but I couldn’t hear what he was saying.I covered my ears and tried to go to Emma again. I flinched back when a small spark burned my upper arm.Fuck!‘Logan!’ Leon screamed, making me freeze.Emma fainted.This time I heard Andrew’s scream.“Emma!” I shouted as I ran toward her.I didn’t give a shit about the magic or the fucking obstacle between her and me. I was getting to my mate.Suddenly, the vortex around Emma disappeared. The noise stopped, making me freeze for a second. It was a surprising change.Andrew, Anna, and I moved at the same time.I threw myself on the floor next to my mate. Andrew grabbed her shoulders and turned her around. I cupped her cheeks and bent down to place a small kiss on her lips.“Emma,” I called her. “Wake up, baby, come on.”“Come on, Em,” Andrew mumbled as he ran his fingers through her hair.“Let’s get her to bed,” Anna said, making me look up at her. “She exhausted herself again. She needs to rest. She probably won’t wake up for a while.”I nodded as I picked her up in my arms. This wasn’t the first time this happened and I already knew what I needed to do. It wasn’t any less scary than the first time, though. I always felt like I was going to lose her. I was always so scared.Andrew placed her head on my shoulder and I kissed her cheek softly.“Come on, baby,” I mumbled. “Come back to me.”I heard the door opening, but I didn’t look up to see who opened it for me. I kept my eyes on her beautiful face.“I swear to Goddess, each time this happens I lose 10 years of my life,” Andrew mumbled, making Anna sigh.“Magic is dangerous,” Anna said. “This spell was…”Anna stopped talking, making me look up at her. She was staring at Emma with an unreadable expression on her face.“It was what?” Andrew asked her.“Complicated,” Anna mumbled quietly.I felt like Anna wanted to say something else. I was just about to ask her what when I felt Emma stir in my arms.I looked down at her just in time to see her open her beautiful eyes.“Emma,” I mumbled in relief.We were already entering our house. I didn’t even realize that I was practically running the whole time.“Em!” Andrew exclaimed as he tried to look at her over my shoulder.My love kept her eyes on me the entire time. My heart broke when I saw tears forming in those beautiful blue eyes of hers.“What’s wrong, Emma?” I asked as I entered our house. “Is our baby okay?”Emma sobbed and wrapped her arms around my neck. My heart stopped.Was my little girl okay? What happened to her?I couldn’t feel my legs anymore. I couldn’t feel my body anymore. I walked to the couch in the living room and sat down. I wouldn’t be able to walk upstairs. My knees were buckling and a huge pit opened up in my stomach.I was terrified.“What happened to our child, Emma?” I asked, my voice trembling.I wasn’t aware of anything that was going on around me. I didn’t know where Andrew and Anna were. All I could see was my beautiful little girl’s face. All I could feel were Emma’s arms around my neck. All I could hear were her sobs.What happened to my daughter? Was she…No. I couldn’t even think about that. She was okay. She had to be okay. I would find my little girl and I would bring her home.Emma continued sobbing.“What happened, Em?” I heard Andrew’s voice faintly.I couldn’t focus on him. All I could think about was my daughter.Emma, baby, please tell me what you see. I mind-linked my mate.I couldn’t force myself to speak. My throat was dry, and I couldn’t swallow. My lungs felt like someone squeezed all the air out of them.Emma lifted her head and looked at me. The fear I saw in her eyes made my stomach turn violently.“The darkness…” Emma spoke, her voice breaking.I stopped breathing completely.“It took over her, Logan,” Emma continued quietly. “Someone forced her to let it out.”I heard Anna gasp. I heard Andrew curse loudly. I heard something break.I kept my eyes on Emma the entire time. My mind was blank. I couldn’t understand what she was telling me.Emma wrapped her arms around me again and sobbed. I forced my frozen body to move. I placed my hand on the top of her head and pressed her closer to me.Andrew kneeled in front of Emma and me. He placed a hand on her back and rubbed it gently.“The only important thing is that she is alive, Em,” Andrew said, his voice laced with fear and pain. “Your baby is alive and we will save her. We will save her from those bastards and we will save her from the darkness.”He was right. My little girl was alive and that was all that mattered.Emma turned toward her brother and hugged him tightly. Andrew returned the hug immediately.“We need to get the boys and Jake back,” Andrew said, keeping his eyes on me. “If they are controlling her and she is consumed by the darkness, there is no telling what they could make her do. They are walking into a trap.”I forced myself to nod.He was right. We needed to stop them. We needed a new plan.My mind went to my son and I wondered how he would react when we told him. I wished that there was a way to protect him from this. I wished that we didn’t have to tell him. But I knew that wouldn’t be fair. I knew that it wouldn’t be possible. He had to know. He had every right to know.Bring them back, Jason. I mind-linked one of my warriors stationed in the forest.Yes, Alpha. He mind-linked me back immediately.Emma let go of Andrew and turned back toward me. I pulled her into my arms and kissed the top of her head.“We will bring her back, my love,” I said. “We will save her from the darkness. I promise.”
