Chapter 158 Found Something âYes.â
âI wanted to inform you the other day that the homeless man is dead.â
Deirdre was incredulous. âHeâs dead? How did he die out of nowhere?â
Samâs eyes turned gloomy. âIâm not too sure, but I heard that he died from food poisoning. However, I believe that the matter is certainly not as simple as it seems. I believe that Miss McKinney tried to destroy all the evidence in an attempt to hide her tracks after executing her plan.â
Upon hearing that, Deirdre shivered despite not feeling cold and felt a shiver down her spine.
âHow can Charlene be so sinister? She took a manâs life!
âOn the other hand, Brendan is ridiculous. How will he feel when he finds out one day that the woman he trusts and loves is actually a devil?â
She bantered herself in her head and said to Sam, âSo, does that mean that dead men tell no tales?â
âI thought so too initially.â Sam smirked. âFor that, I looked into the homeless man and found nothing useful other than that he had a homeless friend when he was alive. I didnât pay much attention to it until yesterday when the homeless manâs friend showed up in the casino.â
Deirdre was momentarily stunned but came to realize something soon afterward. Her expression was tainted with a tinge of joy. âThe homeless manâs friend is a homeless man too. He canât possibly have the money to go to the casino. Something must have happened!â
âThatâs right.â Sam stared closely at the womanâs face. Her face was savagely hideous without any sense of beauty, yet he could feel his heart racing when he saw the joy on her face.
He stopped himself from behaving strangely and said, âHence, I think that itâs highly possible for the man to be the profiteer. He used the homeless manâs mental illness and made him kill Bliss. This is why ther police canât find anything.â
Deirdre asked cautiously, âDid you manage to find out anything then?â
She was worried that all the effort would be futile.
âSoon. Iâm looking into his unknown income. If I can find the source of the money transfer and get someone to make him speak, I believe that this matter can be solved.â
âThatâs greatâ¦â Deirdre clenched her fists tightly while her eyes reddened with tears. She was so powerless in the past that she could only endure the pain of losing her child. However, she would be able to provide a proper closure to Bliss today.
Sam refrained from the urge to touch Deirdreâs teary eyes. He poured a glass of water and moved closer to Deirdre.
âHere, Miss McKinnon. Youâve slept for three whole days, so I believe that you must be thirsty after talking so much earlier. Have some water.â
âSure.â Deirdre was so excited that she was in a dazed state. She stretched out her hand to grab the water, only to hold Samâs hand accidentally.
Sam pulled back his hand because he was caught off guard by the electric-like sensation and dropped the glass on Deirdreâs leg, splashing her with water.
Brendan witnessed the scene as soon as he came into the hospital. He furrowed his eyebrows upon seeing Samâs reaction. Yet, Deirdre was still smiling in a clueless, innocent manner.
âWhatâs with the huge reaction? My hands are rough, but they are not knives. They wonât hurt you.â
She cracked a sincere smile after learning that Blissâ death would be cleared at last.
Brendan clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles popped after seeing her smile.
âAn errant woman will never know her place even in death.â
He gnashed his teeth and sneered aloud. âIs this not a good time for me to visit?â
His voice sounded icy cold, like a curse in the dark night.
Deirdre trembled. The joy on her face vanished into nothingness, and it was replaced by confusion and terror instantly.
She looked toward the door, completely perplexed.
