Sherry did know a lot of people in Westchester. Even Mrs. Carter was her good friend. However, Westchester and Glanchester were far apart, and Odell Carter had nothing to do with the Sager family.
She should not have gone to Odell for help. In that case, which friend did she ask to âborrowâ the invitation from Young Master Sager?
âJohn, | donât think Ms. Fowler borrowed the invitation,â Julie looked at his face and said in a small voice.
John looked at her.
Julie thought of something and said, âGlanchester will be holding the annual Business Association conference in a week. Master Carrel will be there, and he said that Young Master Sager will attend as well. You can just ask Young Master Sager face to face.â
Johnâs expression changed slightly as he hummed.
Looking a little tired, he raised his hand and pressed it to his temple, then said to her, âItâs late. You can go back to rest now.â
Julie smiled at him. âOkay. You rest early too.
John nodded toward her with a gentle expression.
Julie walked out with a smile.
Outside, the night was silent and cold.
Julie had just come out when she ran into Madam Stockton and Queenie.
âJulie, what did John say to you?â Madam Stockton hurriedly asked her.
Julie smiled and held Madam Stocktonâs arm, leading them outside while saying, âHe just wanted to know if the invitation was delivered to Young Master Sager.â
âWhy is he asking that? Does he still not believe that Sherry stole the invitation?â Madam Stockton grumbled unhappily.
Julie said with a smile, âI donât think so. | think heâs just asking about it normally. Since Young Master Sager did come to Glanchester, itâs only natural for John to ask about it.â
Madam Stockton snorted coldly. âWhether itâs true or not, heâd better not have anything to do with Sherry again. Even if | die, | won't let a woman whoâs also a thief like her be my daughter-in-law!â
âShe doesnât seem to want to be your daughter-in-law either...â Queenie muttered in a low voice.
Madam Stockton instantly glared at her.
Queenie pursed her lips.
Julie took Madam Stocktonâs hand and said gently, âWhat nonsense are you saying, Mom? Don't think too much. and get some rest.â
Madam Stockton still had a cold expression. She was upset at the thought of Sherry coming back.
She was in no mood to listen to Julieâs advice now. She broke away from Julieâs grip and was so angry that she stormed back to her own place.
âMom...â Julie revealed a helpless look and turned to Queenie. âQueenie, why donât you talk to her?â
âIf you couldn't get through her, then neither can I,â Queenie said sullenly and also turned to walk away.
Julie sighed.
Only after they were all far away did she curl the corners of her mouth into a pleased smile.
That woman disgraced herself in front of all the friends and relatives of the Stockton family tonight. Madam Stockton valued the familyâs reputation the most, and so did the elderly members of the Stocktons.
Sherry had looked miserable when she was held down by the security guards and when she ran away. She was just like a street rat.
If she had a shred of dignity left, she would not come back to pester John anymore.
Two days later, it was almost New Year. Glanchester was also a famous tourist city, so the streets were replaced with a lively and festive air.
That evening, the silver MPV drove out from the underground parking lot of Stockton Tower as usual.
Inside the car, John sat in the back seat with Caprice in his arms. His eyes looked at the street outside the car window through his glasses.
Not long after that, the car passed a hotel in the city.
J The man said in a low voice, âStop the car.
