Vihaanâs grip on the phone tightened as he stared at the screen, his jaw ticking. Aarohi could see his chest rise and fall with each heavy breath. Sheâd never seen him this unguarded beforeâraw anger mixed with something deeper.
âWhatâs wrong?â Aarohi asked cautiously, even though she already knew his temper was about to flare.
He didnât reply. Instead, he turned the phone toward her, the text message glaring back at her like an accusation:
"You might want to keep a closer eye on Aarohi. Seems like Rohan isnât just a friend."
Aarohiâs stomach dropped, but she quickly composed herself. âAre you seriously letting this anonymous nonsense get to you?â
Vihaanâs eyes were cold, his voice sharp. âDonât act like itâs just ânonsense.â Why would someone send this if there wasnât something behind it?â
âYouâre being ridiculous, Vihaan,â she said, her voice rising. âThis is someone trying to stir up drama, and youâre falling for it!â
âRidiculous?â he repeated, stepping closer. His towering frame loomed over her, his eyes blazing. âSo, itâs ridiculous to ask why my fiancée is spending so much time with another man? Itâs ridiculous to expect loyalty?â
Aarohiâs frustration boiled over. âLoyalty? Are you hearing yourself? Iâve done nothing wrong! Rohan is just a friend, and you know that!â
Vihaan let out a humorless laugh, running a hand through his hair in exasperation. âDo I, Aarohi? Do I really know that? Because from where Iâm standing, it looks like you enjoy his attention a little too much.â
Her mouth fell open in shock. âYouâre unbelievable! You donât trust me at all, do you? This is exactly why we keep fighting!â
---
Vihaanâs face hardened, his voice dropping to a dangerously low tone. âDonât twist this around on me. I trust you, Aarohiâbut I donât trust him. Do you even realize how he looks at you? How he hangs on every word you say?â
âThatâs not my problem!â Aarohi snapped. âIf Rohan has feelings for me, thatâs his issue to deal with. I canât control how someone else feels, Vihaan. And you donât get to punish me for it!â
âPunish you?â Vihaan said, his voice rising. âYou think this is punishment? No, Aarohi, this is me protecting whatâs mine.â
Aarohi froze at his words, her chest tightening. âWhatâs yours?â she repeated, her voice trembling.
âYes,â Vihaan said firmly, stepping closer. âYouâre mine, Aarohi. And I wonât let anyone come between usânot Rohan, not anyone. You need to understand that.â
His intensity made her feel suffocated, trapped. She took a step back, shaking her head. âYou donât own me, Vihaan. Iâm not some possession you can control.â
âThatâs not what Iâm sayingââ
âItâs exactly what youâre saying!â Aarohi interrupted, her voice breaking. âYouâre so obsessed with keeping me âyoursâ that you donât even see how much this is hurting us!â
---
The tension in the room was thick, neither of them backing down. And then Aarohiâs phone buzzed.
She glanced at the screen, her heart skipping a beat when she saw Rohanâs name.
Vihaan noticed instantly. His eyes darkened, his jaw clenching so tightly she thought it might snap. âOf course, itâs him,â he said bitterly.
âItâs just a call,â Aarohi said, trying to sound calm, though her voice wavered.
âJust a call?â Vihaan said, his tone mocking. âDonât act like Iâm stupid, Aarohi. Go aheadâanswer it. Letâs see what your âfriendâ has to say.â
His words dripped with sarcasm, and Aarohiâs temper flared. âIâm not answering this. Not because of you, but because I donât want to escalate this fight.â
âOh, how noble of you,â Vihaan shot back, his voice laced with venom. âBut let me make one thing clear, Aarohi. If you think Iâm going to stand by while you let another man into your life, youâre mistaken. Iâve fought too hard for us to let someone like him ruin it.â
Aarohiâs chest tightened, tears pricking her eyes. âYouâre the one ruining it, Vihaan. Not Rohan, not anyone elseâyou. Your insecurity, your control, your need to make everything about your feelingsâthatâs whatâs tearing us apart.â
The phone buzzed again, breaking the charged silence.
âAnswer it,â Vihaan said suddenly, his voice eerily calm. âGo on. Letâs see where your priorities really lie.â
Aarohi stared at him, her heart pounding. She didnât know what to doâanswering the call would only make things worse, but ignoring it felt like surrendering to his demands.
Vihaan leaned closer, his voice low and threatening. âIf you answer that call, Aarohi, Iâll know exactly where I stand in your life.â
The ultimatum hung in the air, suffocating her. Aarohi looked down at her phone, her thumb hovering over the screen, her mind racing.
---
Would Aarohi answer the call and risk pushing Vihaan further away, or would she let it go and try to salvage their relationship?
