Chapter Twenty-Seven

Everyone stood around the dining table in Scott's house as Scott and Stiles went over their plan, "There's four steps- we get into Eichen, we get into the closed unit, we get Lydia, we get out." Stiles started explaining and Scott nodded. "And we have to do all of this while getting past orderlies, guards, electric door locks, and a mountain ash barrier." Scott said making the girls and Liam are all looking at Scott and Stiles as though they're crazy.
"You have a plan for all that?" Malia asked and Stiles pulled out the key card, "I stole this last night off an orderly. But, it's useless, 'cause they reset the codes each night." He said and Avalon raised her eyebrows. "So, why did you take it?" She asked and Stiles sighed and nodded slightly, "We're getting to that."
"The only way to get Lydia out of Eichen is to make that key card work again." Scott said and Liam squinted, not understanding where they are going with this, "How are you going to do that?" He asked and Stiles sighed. "We're getting to that, okay? Just listen-" He says and turns his laptop around so everyone can see the screen, which seems to have a log on it.
"I pulled all the history off the key card. Two weeks ago, there was a brownout and the security system rebooted. During a reboot, all of the key cards revert back to a default code. So, if we trigger a reboot-" Stiles explains and Liam nods, "The card goes back to the default code. It works again." He says.
"How are we going to cause a brownout?" Kira asked and Stiles pointed at her, "You will. You're going to draw power from the main line- but only enough to cause the brownout. Not a blackout. Do that, and you send Eichen into lockdown, which would be bad. Very, very bad." Stiles said making Kira's eyes widen slightly.
"There's an electrical room behind the reception counter. The main power line goes into two breakers that run power to all of Eichen." Scott says as he point at something on the blueprint while Kira looks at him with wide eyes, "Okay, slight problem- I don't know how to do that." She said and he gave her a reassuring smile. "That's okay! You have time to practice."
"Let's say this goes perfectly. How does a brownout get us into the closed unit of Eichen?" Malia asked, "The system takes five minutes to reboot. In that five minutes, all the alarms will be turned off. The key card should work." Stiles explained and Scott turns to Liam.
"Liam, you and I get Stiles to the gate of the closed unit. But after that, he has to go on his own. We can't get past the mountain ash barrier. And, when we're gone, all anyone's going to think is that there was a reboot of the security system caused by a brownout." Scott said and Stiles nodded in agreement. "Uh, any questions?" Stiles asked.
"How do we get into Eichen House in the first place?"
"What's our worst case scenario?"
"What if I can't do it?"
"What if nothing goes to plan?"
Liam, Malia, Kira and Avalon asked all at the same time making their eyes widen slightly. "Okay, admittedly, a lot could go wrong." Stiles said and Avalon raised her eyebrows at him, "Everything could go wrong! Have you guys ever had a plan that actually worked?" She asked and Scott sighed.
"Guys, if we don't do this, we lose Lydia. She's going to die in there tonight... And she might take a lot of innocent people with her." Scott said.

In the empty chemistry class, Kira, Avalon and Malia stood in front of an electrical box connected to two copper wires, which run into another box that has a light bulb. Malia and Avalon looked at Kira expectantly making Kira rise her eyebrows.
"What?" Kira asked and Malia gestured towards the electrical set up, "Do it. Do your thing." Malia said and Kira shook her head. "What thing? I don't have a thing." Kira said and Avalon raised her eyebrows, "You've done it before so you had to learn how, right?" She asked and Kira shrugged slightly, "Actually, no. It just happened." Kira said and Malia pointed at her slightly.
"How'd you learn to fight with a sword?" Malia asked, "That just kind of happened, too." She said and Avalon and Malia both furrowed their brows. "So, you've never worked for anything, and basically, you're a cheater?" Avalon asked and Kira shrugged and shook her head, "This wasn't my idea! How are we even getting past the front gate?" Kira asked.
"I have a guy on the inside." Malia said making Avalon and Kira look at her with furrowed brows and Malia waved them off. "And stop changing the subject! Do your thing!" Malia said, gesturing to the electrical set up.
Kira took a deep breath before grabbing the two wires. The light bulb starts to glow brighter making Avalon and Malia glance at each other as the voltage meter goes from zero to a hundred-fifty in less than a second. The light bulb suddenly exploded making Kira sigh as she let go of the wires.
"It didn't work." She said before looking up at Avalon and Malia and her eyes widened when she saw a piece of glass in Malia's forehead and underneath Avalon's eye. "No, it didn't." Malia said as she pulled the glass out, "Glad I'm a Chimera." Avalon said while pulling the piece of glass out.
Kira gives them both an embarrassed and apologetic smile, and Malia sighed before reaching for a fresh light bulb and handing it to her. Avalon reached over, pulling a box out from underneath the table and pulling two safety goggles out, handing one to her girlfriend.
Many shattered light bulbs later, Kira had her elbows on the table, resting her chin on her hands while Malia and Avalon sat a little ways away from her. "Can I ask you a question?" Kira asked, looking at Malia, "No." Malia said making Avalon chuckle quietly as she sketched.
"Did your mother really try to kill you?" Kira asked and Malia raised her eyebrows, "Did your mother really try to leave you in the desert with Skinwalkers?" She asked. "What does your mom do?" Kira asked, looking at Avalon, "She's an accountant." Avalon said and Kira nodded. "Oh, cool." Kira said before looking at Malia again, "Are you really going to try to kill her first?" She asked.
Malia sighed and stood up, taking her goggles off as she walked over to Kira making Kira's eyes widen. "Why'd you take off the goggles?" Kira asked, "Because this time, you're gonna do it, and it's gonna work. Because this is the only way we're getting Lydia out of Eichen House." Malia said as Avalon walked over to them.
"I'm keeping the goggles on." Avalon said and Kira nodded before taking a deep breath, wrapping her fingers around them once again.
She closes her eyes and concentrates, only this time, instead of making the light glow brighter, it begins to dim. "Kira, it's working." Malia said and Kira smiled and laughed softly in excitement making the light get brighter. All of the sudden the light bulb exploded, along with all the lights in the classroom making them jump slightly.
"We- We should go." Avalon said while chuckling slightly and Malia and Kira nodded. "Yeah." Kira said and Malia grabbed Avalon's hand before the three of them quickly ran out of the room.

"She took out the whole school?" Scott asked as they all stood around the McCall house, "She took out the whole grid." Avalon said. "Look, I failed every single practice try. This isn't going to work." Kira said and Liam sighed.
"How far can we get without the brownout?" Liam asked, "The front door." Stiles said making them sigh. "We're going." Scott said making Kira look at him incredulously, "Scott, we went through boxes of light bulbs." Kira said and Scott just shook his head.
"It doesn't matter. You can do this!" Scott said optimistically making Kira sigh, 'The key card won't work unless there's a reboot, and there's no reboot without a brownout." Kira said. "I know you can do this." Scott said then looked around at Liam, Stiles, Avalon and Malia, whose facial expressions are each varying states of skepticism.
"Anyone here think she can't?" Scott asked and Stiles and Liam instantly shook their heads, "Not me." Liam said. "I'm the one who put you in the plan." Stiles said and then they all looked over at Malia and Avalon.
"What?" They asked and Stiles raised his eyebrows, "I believe in you, too, Kira." He whispered making Malia look at him crazy. "We're the ones who's going to be locked in an electrical room with her!" Malia said and they all gave her a look making her sigh and turn to Kira, "Y-you can do it..." She said making them look at Avalon.
"I believe in you." She said making Stiles smile and nod while Kira looked at all of them before sighing. "You guys are all crazy. We're gonna die." She said and Avalon instantly nodded, "Most likely."

"Please remember to follow visitor procedure! Eichen House has a wide range of patients, and we cannot guarantee the safety of those who deviate from the rules." An orderly said as he open the gate to Eichen House, letting a groupie of people walk past him. Three of those people being Avalon, Malia and Kira.
They walk into the building the the group walks up to Schrader while Avalon, Malia and Kira sneak off to the side by the wall.
They wait for a little while before a gate door opened and out walked a completely naked patient with a happy smile. "Not again, Nelson!" Schrader said, running out of the reception office making Nelson run off. The second Schrader ran past them, the girl quickly ran around the corner, past the reception office.
"It's natural!" Nelson yelled, "So is 50,000 volts!" Schrader said before taking Nelson making him yell out in pain. The girls paused for a moment, glancing at each other wide eyes before quickly opening the door and running in.
When Malia locks the door to the electrical room, Kira looks at them excitedly. "We're in! We did it!" Kira said and Malia sighed, "Don't get too excited- getting out is the hard part." She said as Avalon looked down at her watch. "We got twelve minutes." She said and Malia walked over to the electrical breaker, pulling the door open.
"Okay, Kira. You can do this." Malia said as Kira walked forward, staring at the cables, "Eleven minutes." Avalon said. Kira looked at the map of the electrical system before pulling back at the cables, "I think it's these... But they're covered in rubber." She said.
Malia glanced around for a moment before grabbing a pair of scissors. When she walks over to the box and was about to cut the rubber off of the wires, Avalon quickly grabbed her wrist to stop her. "Are you trying to electrocute yourself?" She asked and Malia shrugged, "I'll heal!" She said making her girlfriend give her a look. "Not if you die!" Avalon said and Malia sighed, "Can you melt it?" She asked and Avalon shook her head.
"Rubber doesnt melt easily and the fumes are toxic." She said and Malia pouts for a moment before flicking out her claws making both Avalon and Kira give her a look. Before they could say anything, Malia stepped up swiping at the main electrical line to cut the rubber insulation off them. When her
claws make contact with the wires, sparks shoot out and cause a small amount of smoke, and Malia groans in shock.
When Malia pulls away, her claws and the tips of her fingers are blackened, but she's otherwise unharmed. When she noticed Avalon looking at her crazy she just shrugged slightly. "I didn't die!" She said and Avalon scoffed slightly, "That doesn't make less stupid!" She said before looking down at her watch.
"Four minutes." She said, looking at Kira who turned to the copper wires. "I can smell how nervous you are." Malia said making Kira sigh, "Not helping." She said and Avalon sighed softly before comfortingly grabbing Kira's shoulder. "You can do this. It's just like we practiced." Avalon said making Kira raise her eyebrows, "You mean, like... when I caused a major blackout?" She asked and Avalon shook her head.
"Not like that, no." She said as Malia grabbed her hand to look at her watch, "Ten seconds. Nine. Eight." Malia said as Kira's hands hovered over the cables. "Please stop counting." Kira said making Malia stop, Kira took a deep breath before wrapping her hands around the two cables. However, nothing happens when she makes contact with them making Avalon raise her eyebrows.
"Why isn't it working?" She asked and Kira sighed, "Because I have no idea what I'm doing." Kira said. "Kira, nothing's happening." Malia said and Kira nodded, "I'm aware of that. I don't want to lose control, because I'm scared I might fry the entire system." Kira said as she dropped her hands and Malia stepped up to her.
"Stop worrying about what you might do. This isn't about you, or me or Avalon- it's about Lydia. We're here to save Lydia. We're here to save our friend." Malia said and Kira nodded slightly before taking a deep breath. She wrapped her hands around the cables again and almost instantly, her eyes glowed orange as electricity crackled.
"Kira, it's working! Keep going!" Malia said and a second later the nearby computer beeps suddenly making Avalon walk over to see that the screen reads "KEYCARD SYSTEM REBOOT INITIATED".
A few minutes later, the three if them peek out the door to see Schrader back at the reception desk and two guards walking into the building. "Those guards shouldn't be there." Malia said and Kira nodded slightly, "We could get past them." She said and Avalon sighed. "We could, but we don't want to set off any alarm until Lydia is out." Avalon said before one of the guard's radio cracks to live.
"Perimeter security, check in, please. Perimeter, do you copy?"
The guard immediately rush off somewhere making the girls glance at each other before slowly closing the door.
Not long later Malia, Avalon and Kira glanced at each other when they heard Schrader speak up. "Visiting hours are well past over..." He said before looking up to see Theo, Corey, a partly Kanima Tracy and Josh standing in front of him. "We're not here to visit." Tracy said and Theo smirked, "We're here for Lydia Martin." He said.
Schrader's eyes widen aw he gulps nervously but before he can back away, Theo reaches through the window in front of the desk and grabbing him by the shirt before pulling him through and throwing him onto the floor.
Once Theo ans his pack were out of sight, the girls walked out and Malia crouched down next to Schrader, smacking him to see if he'd wake up. All of the sudden there was a loud crack of electricity making Avalon and Malia turn to Kira to see blots of electricity running across Kira's body.
"It's started." Kira said and Avalon nodded slightly, "We need to get you out of here." Avalon said making Kira look at her. "What about the others?" Kira asked, :They should already be back at the morgue. Let's go!" Malia said and the three of them quickly run past the gate towards the morgue.
They ran into the morgue before an alarm started going off making them pause for a moment. Malia went to open the exit door but the second her hand touched the handle, she got shocked, making her fly back into Avalon and Kira. They all stood up and sighed, "Lockdown." Malia said as they glanced at each other.
All if the sudden, a loud roar traveled through the building making Malia's eyes glow her bright blue while Avalon's glowed a golden yellow.
