Over the next few minutes, Mu Chenâs suspicions were confirmed.
Their group continued to venture further into the green belt, yet the pursuing enemies never appeared.
Was it possible that Niepan hadnât sent anyone after them? Mu Chen doubted it.
After Ling Moâs brazen display of humiliation, leaving Niepanâs face thoroughly battered and unrecognizable, there was no way they could tolerate itâ¦
Even as a companion, Mu Chen couldnât help but feel a strong urge to find a rock to knock Ling Mo down when he saw him âfloatingâ and smiling faintly at the dozens of people below from a lofty perspective.
So what if you can âflyâ?
Even if itâs truly impressive, thereâs no need to have such an irksome, smug expression! Itâs written all over his face: âCome up if you have the guts!â
Mu Chen guessed that those on the ground were probably thinking the same thing.
âWhy donât you come down if youâre so great?â
However, being normal people, no one would actually voice such a shameful taunt.
But this alone proved that Ling Moâs mockery was very successfulâ¦
Ordinary Members might overlook such taunts considering the vast difference in strength; thereâs no need for them to risk their lives over it. However, Mu Chen could totally imagine the reaction of Niepanâs senior management.
âThose ordinary headquarters Members always show off their superiority when they come over to a branch, let alone the senior management? Their self-esteem must be through the roof⦠Even if Ling Moâs actions didnât deliver a fatal blow to Niepan, heâs definitely skyrocketed to the top of Niepanâs hit listâ¦â
While these thoughts ran through Mu Chenâs mind, his gaze flickered over Lan Lan and her father, as well as the sunglasses man.
Old Lanâs background was something Mu Chen knew, but he wasnât very clear about Old Lanâs standing within Niepan headquarters.
And the sunglasses man⦠In Mu Chenâs eyes, he was just a peculiar-looking thug.
Such a power-hungry and cunning person might have secured a position within Niepan, but it wouldnât be a high oneâ¦
Like Lan Lan, Mu Chen also couldnât figure out why Ling Mo had captured him.
But then again, when had Mu Chen ever understood anything Ling Mo did?
This was supposed to be their first night infiltrating Niepan, but Ling Mo had suddenly taken things to a climax.
Throughout the whole process, Mu Chen had only assisted Ling Mo with some support tasks and knew almost nothing.
He initially thought that something unexpected had occurred during Ling Moâs psychic probe, and things just changed âlike this and thatââ¦
But the fact that he had to use vague phrases like âthis and thatâ to comfort and fool himself made Mu Chen want to cryâ¦
However, when he saw Ye Lian and Xia Na, Mu Chen began to doubt his judgment.
Could it be that Ling Mo had planned everything from the start? Is that why he had already arranged backup?
But Ling Mo hadnât even entered Niepan headquarters before, so on what basis were these backup plans madeâ¦
Too many puzzles left Mu Chen utterly confused.
He seized an opportunity to walk beside Lan Lan and quietly asked, âHey, can you tell me how you ended up following Ling Mo?â
âOh, thatâ¦â Lan Lan stretched the sound, taking a good few seconds before answering, âWe just bumped into him.â
âHey, thatâs a vague answer! And your tone is so impatient! Even if you want to fool me, canât you at least maintain proper attitudeâ¦â Mu Chen responded skeptically.
Ling Mo, who was in front, suddenly turned around and motioned for Mu Chen to come over.
âWhat now?â Mu Chen asked with a frown.
Ling Mo smiled, âI need to explain some things to you.â
âReally?!â Mu Chen frowned, suspicious.
Seeing Ling Moâs seemingly âfriendlyâ smile, warning bells immediately rang in Mu Chenâs mind.
âWhenever he smiles like that, heâs planning something against me!â
Despite this, Mu Chen couldnât suppress his curiosity.
âAlright, go ahead,â Mu Chen said, his face tense.
âWhimper whimperâ¦â The sunglasses man whimpered again. This time, before Ling Mo could kick him, Mu Chen discreetly stepped in and kicked him instead.
âShut up!â
Hearing Mu Chenâs low growl, the sunglasses manâs face twitched, and his eyes seemed to roll back slightly.
Being kicked by Ling Mo allowed him to demonstrate his unyielding spirit. But being kicked by Mu Chen only brought him a sense of humiliation.
He had never fought with Mu Chen before and assumed Mu Chen was just a lackey of Ling Moâ¦
Thinking this, the sunglasses man snorted heavily through his nose to express his disdain.
âDamn, youâre so cocky!â Mu Chen fumed.
Ling Mo, however, conveniently tossed the sunglasses man over to Mu Chen: âHeâs all yours.â
âThanksâ¦â Mu Chen lifted the sunglasses man but quickly sensed something amiss, âWait, did you give him to me on purpose?â
Ling Mo rubbed his wrist, smiling, âWhy would Iâ¦â
âBut you look so relaxed!â
âI have something important to discuss.â Ling Mo said, turning somewhat serious.
As he spoke, he slipped his hands into his pockets, âYour efforts played a significant role in our successful infiltration this time.â
âWhimper whimper!â The sunglasses man started struggling again, quickly shifting his hateful gaze from Ling Mo to Mu Chen.
Mu Chen felt a chill down his spine, and his expression turned a bit grim.
The sunglasses man was, after all, a superhuman with mental abilities, and combined with his special eyes, his stare could indeed exert considerable pressure.
Unlike Ling Mo, who possessed formidable psychic power, Mu Chen began to feel uncomfortable instantly.
âSo you did just want to dump him on me!â Mu Chen said, distressed.
âHeâs interfering with my recoveryâ¦â Ling Mo said while rubbing his temple with one hand, âWith a formidable enemy ahead, itâs better to prepare early.â
âOh, so you do understand that!â Mu Chen rolled his eyes.
Ling Mo glanced at Xia Na and Ye Lian ahead, and an involuntary hint of a smile flashed across his eyes.
Seeing such a rare expression, Mu Chenâs eyelid twitched, and he scoffed dismissively, âLove-struck goofball.â
âYouâre really attention-seeking⦠And even if youâre jealous, thereâs no need to show it so blatantly,â Ling Mo responded, retracting his gaze. Then he continued, âI wonât say too much, but there are some things I havenât told you because I have my own reasons.â
âAlright, itâs probably something like âitâs for your own good,â rightâ¦â Mu Chen waved his hand dismissively, shaking his head as he spoke.
âNot exactly. Itâs more like you just donât need to know. And honestly, itâs better if you donât know.â Ling Mo replied bluntly.
âHey!â
Although Mu Chenâs expression showed his displeasure, he couldnât help but inwardly sigh.
As odd as it might sound, admitting it felt a bit like he had a masochistic streak⦠But truth be told, Ling Moâs bluntness actually made Mu Chen feel somewhat relieved.
After all, he had been deceived by Ling Mo countless times with half-hearted excuses. Now, to finally hear some honestyâ¦
Moreover, the fact that Ling Mo was being truthful with him at this moment probably meant he fully trusted him, right?
âFine, if you say I donât need to know, then I donât need to know. Iâm just a curious person by nature.â Mu Chen chuckled self-deprecatingly.
The sunglasses man, eavesdropping and hoping to glean some insider information, didnât expect Ling Mo to switch topics so abruptly.
This made him furrow his brows in frustration, unable to voice his discontent. As for Mu Chenâs easy acceptance, it infuriated him even more.
Fight back a little! How could you compromise so easilyâ¦
âI appreciate your understanding.â Ling Mo said, suddenly shifting the topic, âIâm telling you all this because I donât want there to be any misunderstandings between us. After all, youâre acting as an instructor here.â
âItâs just a squadâ¦â Mu Chen began to reply proudly, but then squinted suspiciously, âWe agreed I would just be an instructor. Donât try to trick me.â
âYou misunderstand.â Ling Mo patted Mu Chenâs shoulder earnestly, âI was just thinking about expanding the squad a bitâ¦â
It took a second for Mu Chen to process this sudden piece of information, after which he lost his cool: âThis is exploitation! Oppression! Sheer cruelty! Tell me, to what extent do you want to expand it, how many people do you plan on addingâ¦â
In the lane of the Medical University, a dozen figures were sprinting down the middle of the road.
Each of these people carried weapons, and the one leading them held a handgun-it was the guard ordered by the Experimental Groupâs Team Leader.
He was quite unlucky. As Captain Song of the guard team wasnât around, the task of leading this team had fallen on him by default.
Watching as his usually unruly teammates obediently followed behind him, he couldnât muster any happiness.
These guys werenât really listening to him; they just wanted to clear themselves of any blameâ¦
As the temporary commander, his sole function was to bear responsibility, wasnât it?
At this moment, he was frowning and staring at an intersection up ahead, his mind racing with thoughts: âWhat should I do?â
It had been nearly twenty minutes, and they had found nothing in this vast campusâ¦
While he felt a bit relieved by this, he couldnât openly show any signs of slacking offâ¦
âIs the front gate covered?â he asked, turning back.
âOf course, people are watching all the roads leading in and out,â someone in the group lazily replied.
Hearing this, a look of bitterness flashed across the guardâs face.
Those jerks were setting them up!
Blocking the gate was proactive, but didnât it also mean that their team might very likely run into that troublemaker?!
Nobody present wanted to be part of this chase, yet they had been given an uncompromising order from above.
Unlike regular members, they were a squad entirely under Niepanâs command, with no ability to refuse orders.
The Experimental Groupâs Team Leader dared to send them out because their unit was the least likely to have any infiltrators.
But Ling Moâs strength, along with the unknown enemies lurking in the shadows, posed significant risksâ¦
