The last bell of the day rang and I was finally free.
I scurried to the library as I wanted to get in some reading. I ran in and grabbed my spot quickly.
I opened my book and started reading when I hear
"What no hello?" Alex said pretending to be hurt.
"Sowwy" I said with a smile, "its good!" I held up my book to show him.
"Well enjoy it. Want to go to dinner together tonight?"
I nodded yes and he said he would get me at 5 before closing up. I turned back to my book.
What seemed like 15 minutes must have been an hour.
"5p Ria. I have everything closed up. Ready to go?" Alex asked.
"Yes. I hungry. I want ice cream for dinner!" I said.
"Oh no no noooo. Lalalala I'm not hearing this," Alex said covering his ears.
He made me laugh.
Going through the dinner line and seeing my friends pushed Lily and the day away. I relaxed and really enjoyed this. This school was becoming my new home.
The rest of the week went by fairly well. Alex didn't walk me to class again and Lily left me alone. Our teachers also quickly learned to separate us so we were as far away from each other as possible.
I was in art class on Friday drawing next to Sammy. Free draw was my least favorite as I didn't think I was a good artist.
"Teacher! Can I get the clay out?" I asked.
Mr. Hiens barely looked up from his papers, "Not today Ria. Its free draw day. Use your imagination and just have fun."
I ughed and went back to my seat. I hated this. I wasn't gonna do it.
"Ria, no just sitting there. Draw" he said.
I picked up a crayon and got an idea. He didn't say what to draw on. So I started drawing on the desk.
"Okay class 5 minutes left time for clean up!" Mr. Heins said.
The sound of crayons and art supplies being put up filled the class room. I put mine away and got up to stand in line and go to PE.
Halfway down the hallway I hear Mr. Heins voice, "Miss Rellek, come back here now." I get out of line and walk back to him. He looks angry.
"Please explain this," he said looking at my desk.
"Its a dinosaur," I said frankly.
"Yes, but why is it on your desk. The first rule of art class is to only draw on paper, correct?"
"Uuuhh huuh," I said not getting his point.
"So you broke the rules by drawing on your desk. Do you have a good reason for this?"
"I was bored of paper."
"Well that is definitely not acceptable. You're going to scrub this desk until it shines," he said handing me a scrubbing pad and a bottle of cleaner.
I held it and didn't move.
"Ria you can clean it yourself or with me doing it hand over hand but you will be cleaning it."
I shook my head no.
Mr. Heins took my hands and the cleaner and made me spray and clean the desk.
"Noooo!" I said trying to get away.
Mr. Heins remained calm and kept me cleaning until the desk was cleaned.
"There. All clean. Since we did it the hard way though I will see you in lunch detention. Now please go on to PE Miss Rellek."
I stomped off mad.
I went into pe with my note Mr. Heins gave me.
My PE teacher made me run laps for being late even though it wasn't my fault! I hated this day.
Lunch came and I couldn't be happier. The day was almost over.
"Hows Ria today?" Alex said coming up behind me.
"Gooooood!" I said drawing it out. He made it good anyway.
"Any issues at school today?"
He asked me this everyday just like a parent. I thought about the trouble I got in at art class but decided he didn't need to know about it.
"Ummm nope!" I said turning to get food.
Alex stopped me from getting a soda and directed me toward juice. I huffed but accepted it.
I was getting used to a routine. Wake up, breakfast with the group, classes, lunch, a nap time, classes, library time and then dinner. After dinner varied. Sometimes the group went to watch tv and sometimes we went seperate ways. I got used to it though.
"Miss Rellek. Did you forget your lunch detention is today?" Mr. Heins said coming behind me.
"Uhhh" I said not sure how to answer.
"Up. To the lunch detention room with me now."
I got up huffing and followed him.
I felt Alex's gaze on me as Mr. Heins led me through the glass doors to an isolated desk where I would eat my food in silence.
I looked up to see Mr. Heins talking with Alex. Alex looked mad. He turned and left.
Alex had his back toward me and I missed talking with him at lunch. Stupid Mr. Heins.
The rest of the day went by quickly. I hurried to the library. I wanted to check out a new book.
"Ria, come here," Alex said from a room in the back.
He sounded mad.
I gulped and slowly walked back there.
Alex shut the door behind me and sat down pointing to the chair across from him for me to sit.
"You failed to mention you got in trouble at art class today. I will give you one chance to tell me what happened and why you lied," he said sternly.
"Mr. Heins told me to draw. So I did." I said shrugging.
"Ria that isn't the whole story which means you are lying to me and I don't accept that."
"Why do you even care?" I yelled getting angry.
"I care because I like you! I care about you doing well and being well. I care that you succeed!" He said back at me.
His words shocked me and I looked down unable to meet his gaze. I felt bad right now and just wanted to cry.
"Gloria, I knew from the moment I saw you and you gave me attitude I wanted to be your daddy. I just wanted to give you time to adjust to the new school and wasn't sure you would want me as a daddy. But here. Its all out on the table now. So will you be my little, and my girlfriend?" He said making me look into his eyes.
I couldn't believe it!
"Yes!" I said squealing. I jumped up and hugged him. He squeezed me back.
"From now on I expect honesty. And proper behavior. Anytime you get in trouble at school you will get in trouble with me. Any lying will cause worse punishment for you--with holding information is the same as lying by the way. Understand?"
I nodded yes curling into his chest. I was just so happy he wanted to be my daddy I would have said yes to anything he asked me.
"Good. Now go read for a bit," he said setting me down and lightly smacking my butt. I ran to corner and checked out a new book I had my eyes on for awhile.
I couldn't stop smiling.
