"Say bye, Adonis" Jade says as she holds Adonis in her arms. Who had
tear streaks on his face from crying, the moment he saw Adryan getting
into the car along with Brian and the few of the warriors of the pack to
leave towards the Werewolf committee, he had started bawling his eyes
out. Making grabby hands towards Adryan, wanting to be picked up,
but when he realised that he wasn't going to be picked up, hell broke
loose.
"Bye" Jade's hands held Adonisâ small ones in hers, waving as Adryan's
car rolled away. Of course, Adryan had been hesitant to leave seeing his
son's tear stained face, but he had no choice but to leave, as it was an
important matter they had to discuss about. He had kissed her and
Adonis on the cheek, saying his goodbye.
They wouldn't be able to see him for a month or two, depending on
how the werewolf committee works around the issue. Both Jade and
Adryan were thankful that they had gotten time to spend with each
other and Adonis before he left.
She wipes away the tears on his face, placing a kiss on his cheeks.
It's been a month since Adryan left, and there has not been a single day
where he hadn't called her, he called every day whenever he was free
and made sure to ask about her day, about the things she's been up to,
he would even talk to Adonis, which Jade found funny since Adonis
talked in his baby language mostly, Adryan humoured him nonetheless.
Everything has been going good, the pack was thankfully functioning
like usual, even without their Alpha and Beta present, everyone did their
duties without a hush. With Jade, Violet, and Nathan it was a smooth
sail to handle the pack.
Yet, somehow Jade's mind wandered back to the strange encounter she
had with Adeena two weeks earlier, in the pack library.
flashback
Jade had continued her pursuit of going through various books relating
to vampire history, the library didn't have much to offer on the species
but the very little information she found among various pages of
books, even the tiniest of details, she had made sure to read all of
them.
She had been surfing through the books when she heard hush whispers
from the farthest corner of the library. No one really visited the library
much aside from her, Joan and a few high school students. Wanting to
check what it was herself, she slowly moves towards the direction from
where the whispers came.
Hiding her scent, she made sure not to make any noise and be light on
her feet. Stopping, to a certain spot so that she was sure that she wasn't
too close for the person to detect her nor too far for her to not hear
what they were speaking about. Straining her ears, she tries to listen in
on the conversation. It was clearly a female's voice, it seemed like the
person was talking on the phone, and they were speaking too lowly,
which made it slightly difficult even for Jade, even with her enhanced
hearing. She only managed to catch broken sentences from the
conversation.
"My patience is at its maximum end, ... something or I will..won't like it I
do something. ...wouldn't like it when I do...... been holding back
because of you. It's been...long since I've been waiting.â The person
said.
"..." The person on the other end replied, but Jade couldn't make out
their words, because they were speaking too lowly for her to
comprehend from this distance.
"How dare-" before the person could finish their sentence, the person
on the other end had hung up already, making the person angry and
curse out.
As she hears the approaching footsteps, Jade instantly grabs a random
book, opening it up to some page, making herself seem like she was
engulfed in her reading and was not eavesdropping on the
conversation the person they just had. The footsteps stop when they
reach where she stood, and a voice breaks the silence.
"Jade?" They call out in question. Jade lifts her face, her eyes meeting
Adeena's brown ones. Somehow Jade wasn't shocked to discover that
the person she was eavesdropping on was Adeena.
"Hey," Jade says in reply, acting surprised to see her. "What are you
doing here?" Jade asks feigning curiosity.
Adeena stares at her in slight shock and suspicion. Possibly wondering
if Jade heard any part of her conversation, finally deciding that Jade
hadn't, a fake smile takes up her face.
"I was just here checking for some books related to a medical case
we've had in the pack infirmary." The lies comes out almost quickly, if
she hadn't caught Adeenaâs suspicious behaviour earlier she would've
bought the lie and wouldn't have thought twice about it.
"What were you doing here?" Adeena asks her the same question. In
reply, Jade just shows her the book about mythical creatures she was
surfing through, at which Adeena just nods her head.
"Well, I have to get going. See you later" Adeena says.
"See you later" Jade replies
Someone shakes her shoulders gently, as if trying to bring her back to
the present, startled she turns to find Arther's smiling face in front of
her.
"Hello? Earth to Jade!" He waves his hand in front of her, which she
swats away playfully which causes Arther to let out a chuckle. Jade and
Arther grew up together in their pack, being around the same age it
was common for them to play during their childhood. She had a
platonic relationship with him but they were close nonetheless. It went
as far as her father proposing Arther to be Jade's mate since everyone
feared that Jade would be rejected by her mate due to her being blind
Arther had lost his mate even before he could meet her, one day out of
nowhere he felt immense pain, as if his heart was being torn into two, it
didn't take a genius to figure out the fact that it was the pain of his
mate dying.
Since everything worked out for Jade and Adryan, she and Arther were
just like before. Two close friends. Best friends even.
"What were you thinking about?" Arther asks her curiously, bringing her
out of her thoughts yet again.
"Nothing" she looks at him, a small smile on her face.
They were both walking towards the house, she had been spending her
time at the pack house the whole day, Adonis was in the pack house
like usual, she would go and pick him up later. It was around eight at
night. Since Arther was to walk past the house anyways on his way to
check on the borders, he had volunteered to walk with her to the
house.
As she reached her destination, she waved goodbye to Arther. Looking
at the house that was encased in the dark, she heaves a sigh. Trudging,
her fingers fumble with the key as she tries to open the lock. Finally
opening the door, she switches on the lights, walking in, she shuts the
front door close.
Walking towards the direction of the kitchen, feelings thirsty, her eyes
find the bottle of water kept on the kitchen counter. Picking it up, she
takes a glass and pours water into it, drinking it, feeling her parched
throat cooling instantly. A sudden cool air hits her bare shoulders, since
she was wearing a sleeveless dress, goosebumps arise on her skin. Her
brows scrunch in confusion, she thought she had locked all the
windows shut. Shrugging off the thought, she just brushes it off as her
forgetfulness.
Turning, she finds the open window, she moves forwards and quickly
closes it, turning back around she almost gets a heart attack, placing a
hand on her beating heart, as her eyes meet a pair of ocean blue ones
staring back at her instantly, standing near the kitchen island she
previously stood near. She hadn't even heard his footsteps. A feeling of
foreboding came over her, but she couldn't understand why as it was
just Adryan.
His sudden appearance just startled her.
"Adryan,â she says a bit breathless from the scare as her heart beats
wildly in her chest. Her instincts her screaming at her to run the hell out
of there
"What are you doing here? I thought you wouldn't return for another
month." She asked him.
"I thought I'd surprise you" he replies, his voice deeper than usual. He
takes a step forward in her direction, which makes her press her back
against the granite of the kitchen counter even further as if wanting to
disappear. She didn't have a good feeling about the situation. She felt
like she was the prey and he was the predator.
Suddenly, almost too quickly, if she wasn't looking into his eyes she
would've missed it, but she didn't. His eyes had flashed a lavender in
colour for a fraction of a second, but that was all it took for her to
confirm her suspicion. The eyes only reminded her of the pair of eyes
she had found watching her in the forest a few months ago.
One of her hands, which was placed on the counter behind her, slowly
tries to reach towards where the knife was kept on a wooden board. A
headache starts forming, causing her to wince as the pain keeps
increasing even though she tries to shake it off. Her eyesight dims for a
second, blurring, she could feel her hands trembling as they try to reach
for the knife.
"You're not A-Adryanâ Jade manages to stutter out, she was breathing
through her nose now, as her body temperature started to go down.
The headache she had was feeling like it could split her brain into two.
Taking advantage of her situation, Adryan or rather the imposter in
Adryan's body moves forward.
She had given up on reaching for the knife, as she couldn't stop her
hands from trembling as she felt extremely cold, to the point where she
felt hypothermic.
"Stay Aa-Away," she says, she could feel him close to her now, the
person's cold body was a drastic contrast to Adryan's warm body. The
last thing she saw was a pair of lavender-coloured eyes before she
submitted to the darkness.
