Megan's POV
These past few weeks have seemingly been some of the most stressful. The only good thing was that my dad had finally woken from his comatose state. And was now living with his brother. Saying something like he didn't want to live in that house anymore.
It put me at ease when he promised to visit me every weekend. I was happy he was still my dad even after everything. That was the best part of these past few weeks.
Skye was still ignoring me. Acting as if I were merely a plastic bag drifting that got stuck to her shoe.
I've thought about confiding in Sloan about what I said, but she's been a bit preoccupied with some guy she met at an away game. He was a yearbook guy at one of our rival schools.
I didn't want to ruin her happiness with my own drama, so I just kept it to myself.
Unsurprisingly, I've grown to strongly dislike Bailey. Throughout the weeks, she's practically been here everyday. Stripping me of any opportunities to have an actual conversation with Skye. Though I doubt even if we did have the opportunity I'd know what to say. I know I wanted to apologize, but I didn't know how.
What I said to her, it was her biggest insecurity. That she was completely broken beyond repair. Despite the way she treated me, I knew the moment I said it was a huge mistake. I basically used the fact that she actually opened up to me against her.
"Oh my Lord, there's so much food!" I heard Sloan call. I looked up from my spot on the couch, and watched as Sloan marched in with bags full of food. Followed closely by Skye and their parents. They got back just a few days ago. Seemingly just as surprised as I was when they found out Skye was seeing someone.
"Why'd we have to get so much?" Skye grunted, setting her bags next to Sloans on the counter.
"Because you and your sister seemed to have pigged out on everything we have food wise in this house." Their father joked, placing his own bags down.
"Hey, Megan lives here to!" Sloan pointed out. Smirking at me.
"Megan's different." He said.
"How so?"
"We actually like her." Their mom piped in. Looming amused by how both Sloan and Skye scoffed.
Getting up, I helped Sloan put everything away. "So Megan, what's been going on with you?"
I was surprised she actually noticed.
"Did you honestly think I wouldn't notice?"
"No." Yes.
"Don't lie to me." I was beginning to feel like she was in my head. Then again she was my best friend, so there was no point in lying to her.
"I fucked up." I admitted.
"How?" Grabbing a bag of frozen meats, I shrugged, stacking them into the freezer.
"I said something." I said blankly.
"Megan." Sloans stern voice sounded behind me. She was upset.
"I got into sort of an argument with your sister."
"I'm guessing that's why she's been ignoring you?" Sloan stated blankly.
"Yeah."
Sighing, Sloan picked up all the empty bags, folding them for reuse. Walking up to her room, we sat beside each other. Flipping quietly through our phones. She didn't seem mad, but rather perplexed. Maybe she was wondering why a fight between Skye and I would be affecting me this much.
I couldn't help but wonder the same things. Thinking back on it, it started shortly after I met Michael. He was this great guy, who quickly became a close friend of mine. Maybe she thought we were something different and she was jealous. And this was all some sort of jealous rage Skye had.
But I quickly pushed that thought aside. We barely even knew each other, so she would have no reason to be jealous of the idea of me being with someone.
Then I got the idea that Sloan told her about our promise. And she thought I was obsessed with her and got creeped out. But since Sloan made me best friend promise, I dismissed the thought.
"You should go talk to her." Sloan suggested after ten or so minutes. "Apologize. I think she needs it."
"I'll probably just end up saying something stupid again." Which was true.
"You never know. This sole thing could just blow over and we'll all be the best of friends."
"Sloan, that sounds like a bad high school drama." Laughing, I eyed her after she slapped my arm.
"Just go apologize. Be the bigger person."
"Fine." Knowing she wasn't goon to give in anytime soon, I stood and walked over to Skyes room. Pausing before knocking lightly.
Regretting it immediately, I turned to leave just as the door opened. "Megan." Skye said. I wanted to cringe at how little emotion was in her voice.
"Hey......can we talk?" Narrowing her eyes, she just walked away, leaving her door open. "Skye, I wanted to say I'm sorry." She looked up like she was about to say something, but I just went on. "You don't have to say anything. I know you don't want to talk to me, or see me. I just wanted to say I was sorry."
Turning to walk away, a slender hand wrapped around my wrist, pulling me gently into her room. Skye closed the door, she pushed me softly against it.
"You think this is what I want?" Her gruff voice echoed through the quiet room. I was finally getting her to see me again. Her eyes searching mine immensely. "You needed to understand."
Cocking my head in confusion, I just looked to her to continue. "Understand what?"
"That I'm not as good as you think I am. That you Were right, I'm broken."
Grabbing her face softly in my hands, I met her eyes. "No, I wasn't. You're not broken Skye."
"I hate what you're doing to me."
Before I could interject, her soft lips met mine. Not thinking much of it, I melted into the Buzz I felt as her tender lips moved against mine. Enjoying the butterflies I got in my stomach. I haven't had anything this intense ever.
As if being burned, Skye pulled away. Looking at me, she shook her head. "I shouldn't have done that."
"You shouldn't have." I agreed. Still watching her. She almost growled as her lips collied with mine once more. This time it was fired with and intense hunger.
Moving my lips in synch with hers, I wanted to cry out when I felt Skye gingerly bite down on my lower lip.
I don't think this was what Sloan meant when she said go apologize.
Shooting my eyes open, I practically shoved Skye away from me. She looked at me, panic filling her eyes. "Its not you......I just promised Sloan....."
"That you wouldn't get involved with me." She finished.
"Skye..."
"You both need to realize, I can handle myself."
"She's just looking out for you." I defended.
"No, she's lookin out for you. She doesn't want you involved with me because she knows all I'll do is hurt you." She admitted. Is that what she thought of herself? That she's incapable of having a normal relationship and being happy with it? That all she does is wrecks things?
"Skye," I called gently, pulling her chin up lightly with my thumb. "You won't hurt me."
"You don't know that."
"Then prove it to me."
"What about Sloan?"
"She'll be fine."
"What does that mean?"
"We're friends." I declared. "Meaning no more ignoring me."
"And no more kissing." She seemed sad about that, but I ignored it. I was just happy Skye and I were actually friends. Despite the obscene way in which it happened.
Walking back to Sloans room, I felt confident.
"How'd it go?" Sloan asked from the bed.
"It went good."
"Good."
I felt bad about breaking the promise we had, but there was no point in telling her now. Not since we agreed that whatever it was that happened wouldn't happen again.
It still hurt knowing I was lying to her.
