Shock filled my entire body, I could not move. If not for Amy pulling at my arm, I would have remained rooted to the spot. I wanted to go back for Darius, I wanted to ensure that he was safe but my mouth could not form the words. Like a coward, I allowed Amy to pull me out to safety.
Instead of taking the usual entrance, she pulled me in through the kitchens. It was empty and I was sure that the servers had already been evacuated. I tripped from my heels and almost fell if not for her arm holding me steady. She muttered a small curse under her breath and made her way deeper into the kitchen. When she returned, there was a knife in her hands.
I took a small step backward. "Please, don't do this."
"Shut up," she muttered as she reached for my dress and using the knife, she ripped it apart so it stopped around my upper thigh giving me more freedom to move. "Take off your heels and let's move."
I did as she asked and she was about to put the knife down when she thought better of it and handed it to me. I was confused at first but I took it from her and followed her barefooted through the doors until we got outside. For a second, there was quiet and I was relieved because I thought we were safe but it was cut short when I heard slow clapping.
A figure walked out of the shadows and judging by the look on Amy's face- she knew the woman. I didn't need any introductions to know that it was Faye standing in front of me. Her hair was slicked back into a ponytail and was as black as the night. Her eyes were a deep brown color and she was tall- almost as tall as I was. She was wearing ripped jeans, high-heeled boots and a tank top with a leather jacket thrown over it. Her lips were painted the deepest red and curled up into a smirk.
"I'm impressed you got out this quick. I bet for fifteen minutes but you made it out in seven," she made her way closer and Amy growled. "Oh stop the theatrics, Amaris, you can't shift because it isn't a full moon but my men can. I don't want to hurt you, I just want her."
"You'll have her over my dead body."
Faye smiled. "So be it then. Don't say I didn't warn you."
As if on cue, some men walked out of the woods. There were four of them and I knew that even though Amy was a good fighter, there was no way she could defeat all of them at once. We were surrounded and outnumbered and I couldn't fight I.was the catalyst in this battle and I knew they would come for me.
Amy turned to me. "Stab anyone who comes close to you."
Before I could respond, they charged.
Three of them charged Amy at once while the other one came for me. I tried my best to look as formidable as possible but my heart was beating wildly in my chest. I swung out with the knife but the man avoided it easily. From the smile on his face, I knew he was toying with me. I rushed him and just as I was about to hit him with the knife, he sidestepped and pushed me so hard that I fell on my ass.
He laughed and I felt embarrassment climb up my cheeks. Faye was leaning against a tree and watching everything with amusement. Amy was trying her best to take on three men but I knew she was struggling. A plan came to me and I prayed it would work. I dashed towards the direction of the woods. I knew it would only be a second until I was caught and I was right.
The man wrapped his arms around my torso coincidentally leaving my hands free. I held onto the knife with both hands and stabbed his side. He roared in pain and released me. I wasted no time in pulling the knife out and stabbing him again in his chest. Blood splattered on my face and chest but I didn't care, I needed to help Amy. She had killed two of them and there was just one man left.
Faye seemed to notice things were not going her way because she frowned. Just before I could make my way over to Amy, she moved with speed and she drove a knife
I didn't know she owned into Amy's back and then turned to me.
"If you move, I will pull this out and she will die," she warned me. "It is a pure silver knife. If you don't believe me then you can call my bluff on it but your friend's death will be on your hands."
"She is your sister."
"She stopped being my sister a long time ago." She drove the knife further into Amy's back and I saw Amy trying to mouth for me to run but I couldn't. I dropped the knife I was holding.
Faye nodded to the last man standing and he retrieved a needle from her jacket pocket. Amy was crying now and I smiled softly at her. I hoped Darius and Ian would be able to find her before she passed out from the pain. I would never be able to live with myself if anything happened to her.
The man did not hesitate before sticking the injection into my neck. Whatever was in it took effect almost immediately. My vision was blurry as I saw Faye push Amy to the ground with the knife still protruding from her back. She walked over to me and grabbed my chin with a wide smile.
"Goodnight, Leindra."
The next time I woke up, my head was pounding and my mouth was drier than a desert. I tried to move but I realized that I was tied to a chair and couldn't move. I looked around trying to adjust my eyes to the darkness in the room but I couldn't. it was pitch black and there was not a window or source of light to be seen.
I heard footsteps approaching and the sound of locks before the door was pushed open. I had to blink to adjust myself to the sudden influx of light. Once I was adjusted, I looked up to see Faye standing there. She was still in her outfit from the forest so I believed it had just been a few hours.
Behind her was the man who had drugged me and he had a lit torch in his hands. He put the torch at one end of the room and that was when I was able to see where I was properly. I was in some kind of underground dungeon. There were no windows and only one door with a few holes that I assumed were to let air in. There was a tiny mat at one end of the room that I assumed was for me to sleep in and a small bucket that I knew without a doubt was to relieve myself. Once the torch was set, the man walked out leaving me with her.
"I'm sorry that we had to meet that way," she began. "My pig headed brother doesn't really like to share. I couldn't have just walked in and asked to see you."
She walked over to me and to my shock, she undid the knots on my hands and feet. I watched her carefully wondering what she was playing at and if I could just reach out and knock her out.
"You could try," she said aloud making me wonder if I had spoken out loud. "You didn't speak out loud but I know what you're thinking. I lived with Darius for a long time, I know how to get by in a fight. You're welcome to try but I guarantee that you will not take five steps out of this room, If you do manage to get out, my men are lined on that wall ready to do anything to get you back in here."
She stood to her feet and faced me squarely. "I am treating you like a guest. You do not want to know what happens to people I treat like prisoners."
Her smile widened on the last word and she took a step back from me. I knew she was right so instead of making a stupid decision, I decided to bring my hand over to the front and rub at my aching wrist.
"That was smart of you, I can see why you've survived so long in our world," I narrowed my eyes at her as she spoke. âOh, my bad, I realized that I never formally introduced myself."
"I know who you are," those were the first words I had spoken since I was taken. "I know what you've done."
"I am aware that you know who I am but all you know is what my brother has spoon- fed you. Besides, it is good manners to make proper introductions, isn't it?" she stood up straighter. "Why don't you start?"
I wasn't interested in playing her game so I turned away from her. That seemed to infuriate her because before I could figure out what was happening, she backhanded
me so hard that my vision blurred. She grabbed my chin in a bruising grip and forced me to look at her.
"We can do this the easy way or the hard way. I asked for an introduction." "Leindra Turner," I spat and she smiled.
"That wasn't so hard, was it?" she mused as she finally let me go. "My name is Faye Lunar and I could either be your worst nightmare or your best friend. It all depends on you, Leindra Turner."
