In the Herbert Family…

Mary tossed and turned in her bed, unable to fall asleep. She looked at her phone for a while, but there was no call and no message.

Finally, she couldn’t take it. She got up with the phone in her hand, thinking about it. He couldn’t help but make a call.

His hands were shaking with nervousness and excitement as he held the phone.

He had installed a camera in that room that day, even Sampson didn’t know that.

Now, this was her only card she could use to threaten Matthew.

If he cared about Dolores, he wasn’t going to want to see an erotic video of her being stripped circulated on the Internet.

Matthew looked at his phone, his finger hovering over the conflicted screen. Just as the call was about to disconnect, he picked it up.

“Ah, Matthew!” said Maria in surprise.

She thought Matthew wasn’t going to answer her call.

Matthew did answer. His joy or anger could not influence her mood.

Slowly, Mary calmed down. Holding the quilt in her hand, she squeezed it and relaxed it several times before speaking, “Did you see the video? Brilliant, isn’t it?” Matthew’s eyes were half-closed lazily; the storm in them was quiet.

“Let’s meet, I’ve booked a room at the SH Hotel, room 108, I’m waiting. You don’t need to come, but I promise you that Dolores’ video will spread all over the net and become an object of obscenity for all kinds of men.” After saying this, she hung up. Her heart was still beating fast.

She was nervous.

But at the thought of meeting Matthew she became very excited.

She got up from her messy king-sized bed and ran to the closet barefoot to find the clothes she would wear tonight.

Her closet was full of expensive skirts and dresses; she still couldn’t find anything that suited this moment; none seemed pretty enough for her.

But now it was too late to go shopping. She could only take out the garments one by one and try them on.

She looked excited, like a young girl in love who is going to meet the man she has admired for a long time. She wanted to look more beautiful and show the most beautiful aspect of herself in front of him.

So that he would be amazed and fall in love with her….

She longed for Matthew to fall in love with her.

Dolores came out of the bathroom and was greeted enthusiastically by Coral. Coral’s expressions clearly indicated that she knew what Dolores had just done there.

Dolores lowered her head in embarrassment and said, “I’m going to see Samuel.” After saying that, she walked into the room.

She couldn’t stand Coral’s sharp look.

“Dinner will be ready soon.” Coral called from behind her.

Dolores pretended she hadn’t heard and went into the room.

She only came out at dinnertime.

Simona had gotten her “daddy” and no longer wanted Dolores. At dinner, she took the initiative to run to Matthew to sit next to him, “I’ll sit with daddy.”

Jessica went to pick her up, “You’ll sit with me.”

She feared that if they stayed there any longer, Simona would not want to leave Matthew.

It wasn’t a good thing; after all, Matthew wasn’t her father.

“No, I’ll sit with my dad.” said Simona clinging tightly to Matthew’s arm.

No one could separate her from her dad.

“Simona…”

“Let him sit with me.” Matthew said softly.

Jessica pondered for a moment and then said, “Don’t listen to him, he doesn’t understand.”

“I don’t care.” Matthew let her sit down, “You don’t have to be so polite, just think of this as your home. I really made you unhappy when I divorced Dolores, didn’t I?”

Jessica’s attitude towards him had always been very lukewarm and Matthew noticed.

Since everyone knew, Jessica decided not to hide it anymore, “You and Lola are already divorced. There’s no reason for it to bother you like…”

“About the divorce, I think you have some misunderstanding.” Matthew didn’t rush to explain, he said without any haste, “Me and…”

He looked at Dolores, “Dolores and I didn’t apply for a divorce certificate, so we’re not really divorced.”

“What?” Jessica looked at her daughter in surprise and asked, “Is that true?” Dolores nodded truthfully.

Jessica found this information truly unbelievable. She had always thought that Matthew and Dolores no longer had anything to do with each other.

“So, we’re still husband and wife by law.” The subtext told Jessica that it was reasonable, and legal, for Dolores to live there.

“Coral, I’m not having dinner at home tonight. I have to go somewhere.” She wasn’t having dinner at home, but she didn’t want Jessica to feel uncomfortable living there because of what she had told her about the divorce.

“You’re not having dinner at home?” asked Dolores, but he immediately regretted it; it seemed a little redundant.

He laughed and hummed faintly, “I have some business to attend to. You can continue to stay in that room. Samuel is in there too, so you can take care of him.”

He had arranged it well, Dolores was grateful. She nodded and said, “Thank you.”

“We’re husband and wife; you don’t have to be so polite to me.” He put emphasis on the first part of the sentence. As he said it to Dolores, he also said it to Jessica so that she would understand that Dolores was now with him.

Matthew stood up, but Simona was still clinging to his arm, “Where are you going, can I come with you?”

She blinked looking up at him.

Matthew pinched her little nose and refused, “No.”

“Why?” asked Simona, disappointed. She wanted to go with him.

What if he left and didn’t come back?

Then she would have no father.

No, she couldn’t let him go so easily.

Matthew patiently cajoled her, “Do you want me to like you?”

Simona nodded without hesitation, “Yes.”

“If you listen to what I say, I’ll like you, won’t I?”

“Of course!”

“Then wait for me at home like a good little girl.”

Simona was reluctant, but still nodded, “Well, then you have to come back soon.” She was afraid that if she wasn’t obedient, her father wouldn’t want her.

Matthew went upstairs to change his clothes. His clothes had gotten wet when Simona had tried to wash his face. The shirt stuck to his skin and was a little uncomfortable.

He put on a black suit, looking brave and noble. Under the light, he looked magnificent and very handsome.

Only his indifferent expression kept people away.

Simona was stunned when she saw him coming down the stairs.

Jessica was feeding him rice, but she forgot to open her mouth and stared at Matthew with wide, heart-filled eyes.

“Simona.” Jessica called out to her to remind her.

Simona regained her concentration and sighed, “Daddy is so handsome.”

Her father really was the most handsome.

Jessica was almost frightened by Simona’s behavior. She was just a little girl, but she was already in love with Matthew’s beauty.

As Matthew headed for the entrance, Simona suddenly slid out of her chair, ran toward her and stopped not far from Matthew. She looked at him and asked, “Dad, are you really coming back? You’re not going to leave us, are you?”

Since Samuel told her that their father didn’t want them, she was afraid that Matthew wouldn’t come back when he walked out that door. She was afraid he would abandon them again.

Her eyes were red and her voice was hoarse, “Don’t leave us.” She was truly terrified.

She didn’t want to leave her father.

Meeting her restless little eyes, Matthew reached over, patted her on the head and said firmly, “No.”

Simona brightened again and smiled, “A kiss.”

She stood on her tiptoes and reached up to hug and kiss him.

Matthew leaned in as she wished. Simona wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed his cheek, transferring her saliva and some of the rice she hadn’t swallowed to his face.

Matthew was at a loss for words.

Inwardly, he was sure that he must have done horrible things in his past life, and that was why the heavens were punishing him in this life by sending two little demons with Dolores.
